Mods are not the base game

Indeed. Mods have been the source of many updates QoL and others as well.

What? Why would console users or even PC users, need to upgrade because of a 70GB difference in drive space? How much System Memory and VRAM it utilizes it the critical bit, and that hasnā€™t changed enough to really even measure. Currently on a PC with 64GB RAM and an 11GB GPU, Conan Exiles with max settings at 1440p uses about 4GB of system RAM and just a tad under 4GB of VRAM. Even at 4K itā€™s consuming only around 4.5GB of System RAM and like 4.3GB of VRAM.

These are not numbers which should cause console or most PC users to feel they need to upgrade anything. -=shrug=-

BTW,
although it didnā€™t make a notable difference I was running around this area after opening 20 full boxes of materials (as I took down my base yesterday for remodeling  ) for each recording:

So I fail to see the point. Funcom continues to take feedback and integrate things as they fit in to the overall plan. QoL is ā€œeasierā€ in the sense that it doesnā€™t muck with game lore or secret plans that may preclude the addition of what we think would be a ā€œcool ideaā€ that is covered by a mod. So ā€œthereā€™s a mod for thatā€ can be taken one of two ways (hazard of the internet) and rather than take it as an aggressive dismissal, take it the other charitable way that assumes they are trying to solve your problem. Content requests like ā€œadd my favorite fantasy creature!ā€ wouldnt pass the loremaster or game concept of the devs, but thereā€™s usually a mod out there to make a player happy on pc. As to console players not getting modsā€¦ wellā€¦ I used to play on ps4. I donā€™t anymore. My platform my problem to solve.

As has been said in the thread as well ā€œtheres a mod for thatā€ can be used merely to shoot down change ideas for the base game the one the officials run on (No mods allowed).

So you see there is indeed more than one side to this issue.

Do you think Funcom cares if somebody makes a suggestion and a mod user or creator offers insight that ā€œthere is a mod for thatā€ ? Do you think that changes anything?

Cause it sounds like you do, and I fail to see evidence where you are not trying to specify who is allowed to respond to feedback threads and who isnā€™t.

Maybe one thing the OP is missing is that Funcom evaluates the use of mods in order to at least partially, decide which direction to go and what would be popular (good) to implement in the base game. At least a lead designer in a video interview claimed they did.

So, if you have some ideas :bulb: which correspond with an existing mod, thatā€™s a good thing! Recommend that mod to everyone and make it popular - then the chances such a feature will be added by Funcom will increase. According to Funcom anyway!

As console playerā€¦ the ā€œthere mod for thatā€ commentā€¦ in Console forums always makes me /facepalm.

In generalā€¦ I enjoy mods, but I often feel they block content. Why would Devs waste time making something a mod does?
Most of Mods/ideas never make it to consoleā€¦ As a Mod, or as a added feature.

I can ask for placeable ā€œinsert itemā€ often feedback isā€¦ there a mod that does that.
To meā€¦ its like WHO CARES. Iā€™m asking Game Devs to do it. Officiallyā€¦ so its fully supported. So in a year its not just free to use source code for someone else to take up mantleā€¦or be Lost cause it was taken down.

I put it in same category ofā€¦

person on fire trying to put themself out
Other guy: ā€œHey you know your on fire?ā€
person on fire ā€œNO **** Sherlock!ā€

Trying be helpfulā€¦but your sorta not. >:D

People mean wellā€¦ but to me, Just let Game Devs do it. There certain mods clearly, that can exist. There outside what Base game is going to be.

/Shrugs

Even with Gaming PC in my Grasp nowā€¦ alot of Mods I had slapped into a notepadā€¦ Almost all of them are defunk or no longer work.
Againā€¦ if Game Devs had done it, it be a working feature. (thou few of those would never be done by Funcomā€¦

You Can Never Win!

Short answer: $MONEY$

Almost all application, utility and game developers do this. Whatā€™s popular, whatā€™s good, what worksā€¦ All are questions mods and plugins answer. And all are questions a forward looking company asks themselves.

Time is also just as relevant.

You only have so much time and staff, + money to get objectives done. So some things just get put asideā€¦ and then Modders do it. So why waste effort/time/money to add feature you were going to, if Modders did it.

Unless you are on console or officials that is, thenā€¦

Didnt miss anything at all. Cant use it on official until it is part of the base game so it doesnā€™t help at all until it is.

Because thatā€™s how itā€™s done. Thatā€™s how I was hired as an application designer/developer for example. I made a few popular plugins and the company(s) hired me to implement something that did the same in the base code so that it wasnā€™t limited by the API and SDK etc. As a games developer, this was pretty common in that industry too. Itā€™s just how it works sometimes and itā€™s a good system when it does! More money would be spent and time lost if they came up with their own ideas which turned out to be unpopular or not be as intuitive.

But if it will be eventually, then thatā€™s a benefit, no?

The only down side I see is that may in up just working for free and never get offered a job. Though the players who benefitted with the free content salute you .

Yeah concerning this part of the discussion fewer ideas make it into code than donā€™t and fewer mods which were coded make it into the game than donā€™t - but:

Maybe they could at least acknowledge the modder if it gets added to the game officially.

They probably do. -=shrug=-

We have already been down this road and I have already answered this. I am sorry that you can not accept this sincere response from me. Final words I am going to utter on this old question. I am not trying to silence anyone if you think that I am then simply, you are mistaken. That is all can I do or say at this point.

Would be nice if it was really out there for everyone to see the award to them for their creativity, time, and energy.

From my limited experience that is usually a question they ask of the contributor and the answer is usually no thank you.

EDIT:

Btw, I realize in making my point it could be interpreted as if so very many features were added in this way - all the time. I didnā€™t mean to imply that. Every company is different but I guess for games itā€™s likely around or less than, 5% of added functions and features after the initial release, which are added in this way - more or less.

More than fair enough. I will not or would not argue with humility
