More Server Options

I’ve been here from the beginning. All the way back before launch when every cave gave corruption and fighting was poking people with a stick. Some of the changes have been fantastic and some… not so much. The one thing I have always praised Funcom for are the settings. Some games require you to alter the config to do half the things we can do in the settings menu. What I’m proposing now are more options for single player and private servers to find their own sense of balance best suited for their own gameplay.

I am not a writer, there will most likely be spelling and grammatical errors in this post. If you are confused about any of the contents then feel free to ask for clarification. However please read everything carefully before asking.

Custom Feat/Attribute Settings:

  • Adding a way to set the number of points the player will end with. People who want the game even harder then it is can take points away and people who want it easier can add more. Said points would be spread out over the various levels, like the game already does.

Level Cap Variance:

  • Could work in conjuncture with the above suggested feature. Changing the level cap but having the Feat/Attribute totals stay the same. This would allow you to spread gameplay out while still having the same stats by the end. Example if you bump the level cap to 100 but don’t change the Feat/Attribute setting then you would end with the same number of points by the end. You would just get less each level.

Fighting Style Options:

  • Have a setting as to weather or not animations can be cancelled. Rather then making things harder on PvE servers to balance out PvP you could instead make it a setting. Have PvP set to cancelling “Off” and PvE set to “On” by defualt. Then if a server owner wants to change it they can.

Why not the last?

They just rebalanced all the weapons after they fixed cancelling. They don’t want people to play this way.

They did. Snark all you want. Youre not getting cancelling back and no snide post from now on is gonna change that. So deal and move on.

I’m not snarking. I’m laughing at the idea that combat is balanced. You are locked in the animation for so long the NPC your fighting has the time to stand up and start hitting you before you have any hope of moving again. As far as this post I’m asking for options. It’s not unreasonable to ask for options. Make the official servers how you want but give people the option to make changes without need to rely on mods for something this small. Modding should be for adding big things not fixing poor combat mechanics.

The problem is that it isn’t necessarily ‘something this small’ - you are talking about changing (back) how combat works. Personally I’d rather not be locked into the animations so long - I frequently finish combat, go to switch weapon back to tool (or whatever) and then have to pause a moment and do it again because the first time ‘didn’t count’. But I doubt it is so simple as just adding a checkbox for whether we want it or not - it is now a part of the combat mechanics of the game.

This is simply not correct - I knock npcs down and kill them on the ground regularly - it is slower to do so than it was, but it’s still perfectly possible. As a tip - I know with a one-handed axe after you knock them down with the 4th heavy swing there is a longish delay before you can use another heavy swing, but if you switch immediately to light swing after the 4th heavy there is almost no delay at all (and once the new combo has started you can switch back to heavy as desired). But TBH, when they’re knocked down I still have time for a heavy swing if I want it - it’s only when they remain on their feet that I need to switch to light (though I often do so for the added safety of having more time). (And I also use two-handed hammers - one of the slowest weapons available - and still have time with them as well - in fact the same applies with every weapon that I’ve tried.) The only thing I can come up with that might be different is if for some reason combat is different between servers and singleplayer - which it shouldn’t be (though 'shouldn’t is not the same as ‘isn’t’).

To be clear - I’m not saying it’s your fault - it is definitely harder than it was before, but it is perfectly doable. The stagger changes also make it harder, since many opponents cannot be knocked down a second time without a break in between (makes the Arena Champion much harder to fight than she used to be). I’d certainly like to see the change reverted (almost certainly not going to happen) or made into an option as you suggest - but I sincerely doubt it’s as simple as all that.

People don’t seem to understand the difference between a balance change. And a change to make the game in a form the creators want it to be.

For anyone who would like an explanation. If your favorite spear does 100 base damage with damage kits and whatnot. Then they nerf it to 60 damage. That’s not them removing spears from the game. Its just a simple (if drastic) balance change.

Removing spears entirely means they don’t want that combat style.

In this case they didn’t balance animation canceling. They removed it. Its not coming back. Its gone. FC doesn’t want to work on a game that has it. They simply decided they don’t want that game. If you want to animation cancel, you need to download and play another game that does it. That is literally the only option from this point forward.

You can suggest, feedback, whine, cry, plead, beg, snark, or whatever. It will always be futile. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they start locking threads after the holidays on the subject, since it is a closed subject and therefor pretty much offtopic. Regulated to reddit and other assends of the internet.

Is it? I would say it’s still there. It just cost you stamina now. If you didnt knew you can cancell animation with dodge. Same as unwield/wield your main weapon.

Reason i remember they had to remove the unwield/wield was simply that it was higher dps than doing a full combo. Wich was totally wrong. You couldnt do anything with spear to make the dps higher than doing a full combo. Only weapons u could do this with was 1 handed weapon, and for that u used a rope/throwingaxe/shield etc.

But no animation cancell is still there. Just with lack of movement.

They said in a stream once that cancelling with roll is intended (I don’t have the link). The dps arguments are mostly forum driven; they took out canceling with weapon wield unweild and tools and such because fundamentally they didnt like it and it was restricting their ability to balance weapon damage as they intended.

The dps question did they brought up themself with just that statement that unwield and wield spear gave higher dps then if you didnt do it.

If they brought that statement up with using an 1h-axe and 2nd hand weapon/tool, and unwield and wield that 2 hand/tool I would have agreed. But they removed the ability to do it with 2nd hand. They didnt have to do it with the “main weapon” since it didnt gave u any advantage at all, except ability to get out of being stuck in the animation, exactly like dodging does both now and then.

And that it wasnt intended to have that feature in game I would understand, if it wasnt because they had time to remove it alot earlier than they did. But I also remember from an early stream that a dev gave a statement that said exactly the opposite of what they saying now. That it was intended. And I can probably even find the link of him mention it if it’s still on their Youtube.

But I really smell bs that doing it with spear give higher dps with unwield/wield option. For me a statement like that just telling me they have no clue what they talked about in that stream.

Id be curious to see the video because the one I saw specifically referenced rolling as a means to cancel.

It’s not any different from having a setting to turn on/off PvP. Is PvP allowed? Yes or no. Is animation cancelling allowed? Yes or No.

@Anglinex I very much doubt it is that simple and I very much doubt that we will ever see animation cancel back the way it was. I didn’t mind the removal of the offhand cancel but I don’t think the equip/unequip was necessary. Having a server setting for is has about 0% chance to happen.

Doesn’t need to go all the way back. I fully understand that swaping weapons mid combo is bull. But as is it needs to change.
