Need Help - Can't Place Maproom On Black Ice-Reinforced Wood

So I built myself a nice little pyramid to place a maproom above my base. the floor area is 10x11. There’s some internal structure to keep the place together but all in all there’s a full 8x8 tile space / area for the maproom placement. But for some reason, I just can NOT get it to place.

The flooring is BIRW ceiling tiles held up with mostly pillars and a few foundations. It’s suspended 4 foundations high in the air above my base (which is all foundations placed on solid ground).

I’d post a pic but the forums won’t let me. :rage:

Get ride of the roof and all pilars then place maproom and then start on build the roof

Here is everything you need to know about closing Map room in your building.

Except how to do it in a square room.

But Bearhunter is basically right. Build the floor first, then add map room, then pillars and finally roof. Make sure to check the stability of your floor pieces so you can place the pillars in the right spots.

I have two map rooms successfully built into square rooms, and both times I placed the map room in before the pillars and ceiling. Sometimes the darned thing wants extra space around it, so be prepared to add some surplus floor around it too (so it’s probably a good idea to build the walls around it rather than trying to fit the map room into a room with walls). You can remove the extra floors later (just be absolutely sure your map room isn’t actually sitting on any part of those floors).

So if I understand, there’s some sort of odd/invisible height requirement or invisible part of the maproom that won’t let it be placed within existing walls? Huh… well, makes sense.

I’ll try that but it’s gonna suck bad cuz (like an idiot) I built up the whole thing in black-ice mats already and have nothing left. Guess I’ll just need to build it again in stone and upgrade as I get the mats again.

Thanks guys.

I got it! Had too remove every ceiling tile that would have been above the maproom (definateley some sort of invisible wall/piece on the maproom that doesn’t like anything above it when placing).

Thanks all!

Yeah, sounds like the problem I had with my latest Wheel of Pain I was setting up indoors, and the same solution too. Some things just don’t want to be placed under existing roofs/ceilings.

I have once built a maproom on a circular foundation along with doors and walls, though I didn’t finish the roofing completely and had a type of hedge design. I am not sure if stability would agree with a ~10 wide circular foundation having a roof without pillars.

Unfortunately not. Stability drops by 20 (25 for roof corner pieces) for every step away from a foundation or pillar, and you can’t place a block with 0 stability, so you can get out to four blocks away from the wall. A room 10 blocks wide would leave the center of the room roofless.

The most important thing you have to know about placing maprooms, even if the link of @Ko6ka is REALLY helpful, it’s maprooms have to be placed BEFORE to build walls/foundations/pillars around it.

It seems requiring more space than when placed while you place it, preventing you to place it in an already built structure.

Another strange thing you have to know about placing maprooms is sometimes rotating it will help, even whitout changing at all the point you’re trying to place it, just like it wasn’t a circle.

If it doesn’t work in any case the only solution is to destroy the walls around it, place the maproom and then rebuild the structure.

I’ve noticed long ago that even Wheel of Pain is NOT a circle. And it is not for taskmaster’s position: it looks like this “wheel” has some angles outside of it’s perimeter like being some kind of rectangle (not even a square).
