I am very disappointed in part of the new purge mechanic. Not most of it but a vital part. The part I miss from the old purges is they can happen at any time as your purge bar rises giving it an almost random or anticipation feel.
I think it’s great that Funcom is working on revising the purges now and making them more diverse, challenging, and robust but the one piece of the mechanic I do not like is that you make the purge come manually now by having to use a coffer and claiming your wealth. There is no chance of a purge based on just your wealth as it grows in general akin to how games like Rimworld work.
Now I know there are plenty that never want a purge and just want to build and those who just want to call a purge when they want to, so I am not saying eliminate the option/current mechanic but to add an option (at least a server option) for those of us who like the chance of a purge happening not just when we click a button to say ok come attack me now guys.
What I would really love is the option (or mod) to allow base purge chances and strength based on overall wealth (not just what you put in the coffer). I know I am dreaming but hey it works well in other popular games. Now I know these are very different game genres but to me, the way it is now in Conan, it’s like playing a base-building game or a game like Dwarf Fortress or Rimworld, and you never get attacked unless you click a button to have a disaster spawn or to have your base get attacked. It takes a lot out of the suspense and the fun out of it.
The chance of being purged is what drove me to build up defenses and manpower at my bases and that was a big part (as far as base building went) of the fun for me. Conan was unique in that aspect. In Ark, for example, you have no danger of your base being attacked unless you like PvP, so why bother with defenses? “Pressing a button” to be attacked is not the same thing so after a point, the game got boring.
