Jam a iron spike into your wrists and now try to draw something as detailed as our map.
The good news is that this ability is already available to any who wish to use it! Simply unassign the map button or abstain from pressing it respectively.
Time for you to watch that intro video again.
Hands, my bad. Which makes it even harder.
Now how do I want to do this.
Spikes through hands wont hold your weight on a cross. Thats why they were nailed through the forearm.
The intro I meant shows being tied to the cross, I should have specified.
But lets say your character was nailed to a cross through the hands; yes I know that is what the character creation intro shows, but just who sets though that? So your characters hands are so damaged they can’t map. But they have no papyrus/hide to make a map, no ink, no quill, so their hands being damaged is moot. And if they can’t do that how can they make weapons, or tools, or clothes.
If we’re going to be realistic, lets be realistic.
It’s easier to make a compass then an iron pick.
I did point out I knew this, and so on…
This is also why I have so many personal notes on my map. I would not be able to find my discoveries (bosses, silk, babies…) back on my own xD
Now add the altars and POI to the personal notes…
My map is a mess, a mess. Filters would truly help.
Speaking of mess, when you start a new character and open the map for the first time… seeing all the altars while you haven’t explored anything yet gives that “Conan Exiles is a messy game” first impression. That’s bad ![]()
Lots of bases with altars vanished these last few months. Some remain.

I read this thread and I believe that it’s not a problem with the map but a skill issue.
On multiple occassions I saw people IRL who could not read or use the map and this is exactly what we see in this thread.
James May relates to map reading issues :')
The map could use a overhaul, but for me personally I don’t care.
Many more bigger issues with Conan Exiles since AoW.

You’re way off there. It has nothing to do with not being able to read the map so much as not being able to tailor it to suit. If I am drawing my map I should be able to simply not put things on it I don’t care about. I’d also have a big selection of simple marks.
Don’t you have it reverse?
In my case, I cannot travel using my sense of direction, so of course I know how to read maps, how would I even go by otherwise? ![]()
Maps to drive, maps to find your way on a volcano or in a forest, maps to take the metro, maps to find your way in a shopping centre… Life is not short on maps, and I believe most of us have learnt how to use them early in life. So do not compare what cannot be compared.
Do we become unable to read Conan Exiles’ map just because of the shrines and POI? Of course we can still “read” the map, by concluding what lies under their markers (from memories, knowledge of the map, or just getting by with what’s left of the map around the markers). Does it mean we have to be content with this crap? No. I’m not content, it is an unpleasant map.
Temptation indeed!
Yet, in this game death is not the end, but your only punishment is that you loose your loot. Now the best punishment of this punishment is that your dead body may be hidden under mase. So your only chance to gain your loot back is to zoom on your map, go over your tomb and wait for the loot bag to appear at least
.
So no matter how tempting your suggestion sounds, the game is not “ready” yet for such challenging options. But i would love to play on an uncharted biome!
About turn off the shrines of others?
This is the best suggestion this topic has!
They would make excellent Second Lieutenants. ![]()
Isle of Men almost didnt have a map at all. In the end I included it because I felt it looked unpolished without it but I still held back the grid. I’m noodling a map that emphasizes survival that actually has a blank map that will only have player placed icons… I need to see how it looks to make sure it doesnt look blech.
So you want a GTA minimap gps?
Agreed the map is substandard compared to other games of 2023.
Games of 2023 are probably the worst metric to use. They don’t hold a candle to anything that came out 30-40 years ago.
Hope you didn’t break an ankle in that leap from marking a path on my map to a GPS ![]()
Not apposed to a mini map, but not like what most games have. As I’ve said I like the 7D2D style mapping; where the map is filled in as you explore. You’d only have a mini map in areas you have already explored.
Dang. What age did you start playing games? ![]()
