Needed classes for 6 mans and raid

I’m a returning player, it’s been a while. Mained a DT and a ToS. Guild has obviously fallen apart, and friends no longer play. I’m looking to get back into 6 mans and raiding. What are the needed classes? I don’t really rmember how to play the DT or ToS anymore, so I’m gonna start from scratch with a new one, but I want to play something that is needed. Any suggestions?

Play the class you like most.
From a raid leader perspective, the backbones of a raid are tanks and healers, but those need to know what they do and carry their load and often times more, so I prefer totally unexperienced average players on dps for their first runs in a new raid. If you consider yourself an above average, fast learning player who can learn a new raids mechanic and how to tank at the same time, a tank is an option. A healer needs to adapt to the kind and pattern of damage that is dealt to tanks and/or whole raid fast to be a good addition to the raid, and dish out dps at the same time, so their attention needs to be split and they need to concentrate on more things at the same time than a dps.
Same in groups: tanks need to lead / know what to do, what to pull and position, and know how to tank the bosses, healers need to heal, dps and adapt to new mechanics, dps can just do what they always do and play their classes kind of in a solo playstyle, playing in a group does not really change from playing alone, while for tanks and healers beeing in a group/raid situation adds a lot of complexity and calls for situational awareness and really paying attention to the group/raid.
My least important classes to recruite for a raid are hox and ranger, mostly because the average player does not excell on those anyway. Ranking from the bottom next comes sin, barb, demo, necro. Usually I hope to fill tanks and healers first (2 of each class, ranking top to bottom dt, conq, guard and pom, bs, tos if I would have to choose, but for a perfect set up I wouldn’t miss any of those classes), get (1-) 2 necros and 2 demos, at least 1 barb, 1 sin, remaining spots are pretty much random dps (this class ranking depends on players knowing why I prioritise their class and using the desired raid builds and feats). In reality most groups and raids are filling tanks and healers last - they are mandatory and can not be filled with just random classes. And then we hope those tanks and healers are either experienced or fast learners and playing their classes well.
But there is a spot for every class in groups and raids, because every class has something to offer, especially if it is a well played class, exeptionell performance trumps all the thoughts above most of the time. Well, exept ranger^^

You motivated me. Gonna level a new DT to remember the class, ten when I get a better feeling for it, getting back on the old main. Thanks for the answer. I just didn’t know if there was under represented classes that were needed.
