Yep, I 2nd, 3rd, and 4th the Nordheimer log-cabin style completely - no idea where the black ice and insulated wood looks came from
âElvesâ? In Conan? They are already there - do you not see the bunnies everywhere (their daytime disguise)?

Even though I consider Yamatai non-canonical (Yamatai isnât based on Robert E. Howardâs writings), at least theyâre human. And even though Howard didnât write about them, the Yamatai people and culture were created by later Conan authors in a way that resembles how Howard created the cultures and peoples in his setting, ie. taking inspiration from real-world cultures.
Elves, in the form we understand the race these days, are mostly based on Tolkienâs creations, whether theyâre fair and live in trees, or dark and live underground. Nothing like them ever existed, or was even implied, in Howardâs stories. His fantasy elements had a similar flavor with Lovecraftian horror - otherworldly demons and black magic from ancient (sometimes pre-human) civilizations.
Right, I think itâs fair to say that Elves as most people understand the term have no place within the Conan setting. Thatâs not to say that a culture of mostly tree-dwelling humans couldnât exist, and their architecture could probably be somewhat along the lines of what you suggest, but youâd probably have to do the digging and come up with who they are and where in the writings of Howard or (failing that) the expanded universe that came after they fit in.
Personally, I think Elves would be eminently suitable as luncheon meat and little else.
Yep, Yamatai as a race do not show up in the Conan genre, but have been justified, by FunCom as a subset within the Khitai race. FC have not stuck completely to the formal Conan race details, but thatâs to be forgiven in that some are no longer PC and, when the game was first designed, referenced the most ârecognisableâ or race types that were kinda generic enough.
Elves, as much as I favour within their respective genre, have absolutely no reference within any of the Hyboria race types and make no sense
For interest, though R.E. Howard has a very nice summary at the end of his book collection, of the races and cultures within the history of Conan, the following link lists the basics: Hyborian Age | Conan Wiki | Fandom
Hyborian Age - Wikipedia is more complete
Actually thereâs elves in Conan. Theyâre called vanir. If aesir and vanir are inspired by Scandinavian mythology, then Frey and Freya were from the alfar aka elves.
Not completely related but yesterday while googling for videos on tower building in Ce, I found one showing the building of Minas Tirith. More than 2hours long but just astonishing to view. The guy used Aquilonian building elements. So, maybe, building in an elvish style doesnât need another DLC. But just a creative use of the Aquilonian DLC.
Vanir and Aesir are the names of the Nordic races of Conan. Not elves, humans.
As seen in Age of Conan:
Conan Wiki:
As far as Frey and Freya go, from Wikipedia:
n the Icelandic books the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda , Freyr is presented as one of the Vanir, the son of the sea god Njörðr, as well as the twin brother of the goddess Freyja. The gods gave him Ălfheimr, the realm of the Elves, as a teething present.
He isnât an elf. Heâs a Vanir.
which talks about svartĂĄlfar , dökkĂĄlfar and ljĂłsĂĄlfar (âblack elvesâ, âdark elvesâ, and âlight elvesâ).
The Aesir and Vanir are gods.
Mako, my favorite Japanese actor, playing Akiro from Khitan or Yamatai.
To me this conversation involves at least two sides discussing about certain behaviour pool performed by a culture of people with specific biological traits.
Personally I care about this discussion to a point. I donât care if Conan has elves or had elves. What I care about is that in case this game gets something close to the matter, I hope that devs at least make them differ from the mainstream blond bishounen race having greater reflexes, phenomenonal aim with bows and a British accent. I love British accent, I adore bows, I breath blond bishounen and envy (in a healthy stage) those with reflexes greater than I do, but lack of imagination is what game industry suffers from the most. Courage to make something great is another asset we miss.
Key words here being âinspired byâ, and not in the typical âripoff with a quick coat of paintâ kinda way, either.
In Norse mythology, âAserâ and âVanerâ are two kindreds or peoples, both gods, who fought and made peace (and exchanged hostages), but neither are elves or elf-like in any way.
They werenât inspired by Scandinavian mythology, they were inspired by Scandinavian people. Aesir/Vanir mythology was inspired by Scandinavian mythology.
So yeah, the Aesir and Vanir of the Hyborian Age are no more elves than medieval Swedes were.
AoC mod has Elves with unique decoration, weapons, and armorsâŠ
(goes well with the new Turan dlc)
And the key word there is MOD. Meaning someone hacked it into the game files. Itâs not supposed to be there otherwise.
If someone modded orcs, dwarves, and hobbits into AoC, does that mean we have to turn Exiles into Lord of the Rings to appease people?
its a mod, as in option. You want, download it. If not move on.
Yeah, and thatâs fine for PC where it is an option.
But expecting them to make DLC of something wildly outside of the game parameters is something else entirely.
There are no Elves in Hyboria. A definite loud NO.
Well Elric did look a little like a depressed Elf and he did meet Conan⊠Since comic books are the most official lore.
Granted, I just want the sword.
