You see, you just confirmed my words: if I play alone and have one computer, a dedicated server makes no sense.
However, it is not needed for one person, even if there are 2 computers. There’s no point in wasting electricity.
I wasn’t aware I was really arguing about it… there is one thing that I never experienced from co-op tho and that’s the tether distance. I could see people objecting to that.
You don’t. But for those of us who consider it an option, it has its perks.
Personally I play on a rented server for Conan Exiles normally, but for other survival and survival like games, I usually run a dedicated server for myself. Games like Space Engineers, Medieval Engineers, Valheim, Empyrion, and even Terraria.
For me the perks outweigh the hassle. If it doesn’t for you, then don’t do it.
Not a single real advantage of a dedicated server for a single player was presented here. But there are many disadvantages. Everything has been said above.
If you know of any real advantages that will outweigh the disadvantages, I would be glad to hear them. Probably to the topicstarter too.
PS I can name the only case where a dedicated server provides a gaming experience that cannot be achieved in a single player game without it. This is collecting resources using a golem.
Everything I could find.
There is no advantages for -you- to use them. Never install the software, Teng. Just never do it. It was designed to be only a detriment for you and you alone. Don’t even think about it, its too dangerous.
Yes, yes, yes, and yes.
Yes.
In solo, you can activate the creative mode at any time if you want a break from the survival mode. In multiplayer, unless you are owning the server, you will have to keep playing in survival mode.
Dude, op asked for information and they were given plenty. As a newbie they have no clue but you choose to argue with the ones who have plenty of experience and are trying to offer their perspective. I play solo mostly and I rent a server always. I don’t want to use x10 crafting speed or get everything to respawn the moment I turn my back around. If you play on your own server you are more likely to use the admin panel which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you view it. I would not recommend officials personally, too many negatives no positives but I did start there quickly to realize they are not for me.
Just play singleplayer if this is what you are set on. I feel this thread has run its course.
Edit: some edits as I realised i am not replying to op.
Most of the juicy bits were already answered.
One thing this one will add is that, altho the journey steps will take you around the map, they won’t walk you to everything.
There are secrets and bits of lore in unexpected places.
Keep in mind that both maps are basically post Apocalyptic. There are lorestones at the bottom of rivers or lakes, because once there was a structure above them.
You can absolutely play the game.without interacting with any of these. But this one personally enjoys the flavour the add.
On the Exiled Lands map, there is even an end game, a way to win.
But here the game is as cunning as the Giant Kings were.
When you win, the game is over. But if you never win, you never have to stop. Those pixelated buildings and property people can become quite an attachment…
Hello again.
Maybe you or anyone else that has been around games like these can tell me, if one day i feel like i’m done with Conan Exiles and want to move on to other pastures are there any games at all with a similar vibe, it can be 100% full single player, and i mean like Conan Exiles where we can gather resources and food to survive, craft, explore underwater or underground areas with a similar vibe as CE?
A wonderfully well-reasoned answer.
Bravo!
This entire forum with its discussion of endless bugs proves one simple idea: renting external servers for this game is evil. This is useful for a beginner to know so that he does not quickly become disappointed in the game, that’s all.
who said anything about renting a forum ?
Welcome to the game. I hope you like it here.

Yes, exploration is huge in this game. Particularly Exiled lands, imo. And there are a MASSIVE amount of information that you have to either learn yourself the hard way or utilize the internet. I liked it back in the day when the game didn’t even tell new players how to craft steel… (it was truly “riddle of steel”. Get it? ) It took me literal years to learn some of the stuff I know now. This game doesn’t really hold your hand (even if it has been getting easier all the time)

All DLC are cosmetic, or have very minor new additions (such as Siptah allowing you to ride rhinos).

Yes. There are a lot of lore hidden in notes, letters, books and other items. Also talking to some non-aggressive NPCs. Theres even a talking magical staff

Main difference between singleplayer and multiplayer is time management. In singleplayer time only moves forward when you are actually playing, whereas in multiplayer server time moves forward independently whether or not you are online. There are some events and respawns that are time-restricted. Most importantly the meteor shower that allows you to get star metal. Getting time-restricted stuff like that to spawn in singleplayer might take far longer than it would in multiplayer because of how time works. And of course singleplayer has the admin mode which takes the fun out of the game imo.
A thousand apologies. I made a mistake in a hurry. I meant servers. Corrected.
To be fair, I started the game on PS4 so had to rent a gportal server for me and 3 other people. Believe this or not, I never had an issue with them and the server ran perfectly fine. I made the switch to PC for a couple reasons, one being the ability to use mods and so at that point, hosting my own server was a possibility so I did that purely to avoid the monthly fee, not because I was disappointed by gportal. I get the complaints about the funcom servers, but when it comes to those servers, the server quality itself is not what would keep me off of them (I’m not even convinced it’s gportal per se, but rather the load players put on them with their builds).
All have merits.
Single Player: no addtional resources required, but the game stops when you don’t play and friends have a tether distance when in co-op
Rental: No hardware to maintain or purchase, but monthly fee required
Dedi launcher on a local server: Must have the hardware but no monthly fee
Dedi Launcher on client machine: Already have the pc, free, but must have spare resources available to run the server and be on for anyone who wants to play with you or when you want to process material when not playing
There’s a reason all are options. No one is right/wrong for choosing any of the above.
Note, I realised I left off funcom servers… Freud might have something to say about it, but to each their own
Hello there @Smoketreader I’m really enjoying the game so far and I’m just in the starting area, i kept following the road until i managed to fin a river, there’s a few small sand islands on that that river and i picked one of those to settle my first base. I’m sure that places to build up bases are big in number.
About the last topic you mentioned, I am currently on single player, maybe down the road i will go to online servers or maybe i will move to another game, so far the plan is to stay as solo player.
I wouldn’t mind checking a online server where other people play but i have read some comments of people saying that official have hackers/cheaters in them, i don’t know if this is true or not so i prefer not to risk it.
In any case if i would join a pve server, i have no interest in pvp, can other players destroy my base or steal the items that i have or stuff that i gathered?
I didn’t even consider the issue of pay for renting a third-party server; this is another argument in favor of a home computer.
There is an opinion that private servers do not glitch like official ones. It is probably generally true. But I watched a lot of streams and videos filmed on private servers, and everywhere there were certain lags that somehow spoiled the impression and were sometimes specifically specified by the streamer. Glory to the Almighty, I did not observe anything like this on my home machine.
Well, for me personally, it is extremely important to feel independent from third-party resources, from their mode of operation, from the willfulness of administrators - everything that limits the freedom of the player. Ultimately, lose your entire game if the server closes or crashes.
Taking all this into account, I formulated my opinion: for a single player, third-party servers are evil.
I apologize if I hurt anyone’s feelings.
In the PvE servers, you are unlikely to meet with hackers or cheaters.
On the official PvE servers, no player can destroy your base, nor steal your items (be they stored in your thralls/mount, your own dead or alive body, chests, crafting stations). The only exception to that, is if they abuse of the game mechanics in ways they were not meant to be played. Even then, it is very unlikely to happen.
I had my fare share of jerk neighbours for a year and a half on the same official server, none of them abused of the system to destroy my base even when we were arguing.
My only advice: do not stick your base to a player’s base. Leave reasonable space in between.
The quality of a home server pretty much depends on what you do with it. The more mods people use and the type of mods, can make a huge impact on performance, depending on what the mod does and depending on how good the hardware is. Particle effects for example can lag the client and many mods use them extensively to add “pretty” effects (not judging, but it can affect performance). Admin built structures using Pippi or simply building as admin can again be a huge hit on the server as they aren’t cooked into the map. So basically, a server/the client will start to suffer with more and more building (and single player will too, but it doesn’t have to divide resources to handle other players in different areas). A game like CE has two performance requirements; the ones listed for the game, and then there are the requirements for how crazy a player(s) goes with building. The second set of requirements vary from user to user.
Are there any good PvE chill/relaxing servers out there or should i stay within the official ones?
