No longer able to snap walls to foundations

Game mode: All

It used to be possible to snap walls onto the sides of foundations, which we can no longer do. I distinctly remember being able to do this even after the release of the Frozen North, when I made a large town and placed sandstone walls along all the foundations for every building, and the outer wall. This was doable for all foundation tiers, including the insulated wood foundations.

Now, that’s no longer possible. All you can snap to foundations, are the fence foundations. Unfortunately, they don’t look remotely the same; they are riddled with wooden bars that just look odd. Used to be able to use both walls and fence foundations, but now, only fence foundations.

This is a real shame, as it was very useful for cosmetic buildings. You were able to make buildings that looked as though they had proper foundations, as it looked as though they were built on top of compressed stones and bricks.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Place a foundation of any tier (sandstone, brick, doesn’t matter)

  2. Try to place a wall onto it’s side, so that it goes into the ground just like the fence foundation does.

  3. You will not be able to place it, as it will not snap to the foundation.

I read your post three times and am still missing something. Help?

@Jim1
Not at the top. Use a fence foundation, and it will snap to the part of the foundation that intersects with the ground. It used to be that walls would do the same. Now, they don’t. They only snap to be above the foundation, which looks really odd due to the wall being placed outward from the foundation.

The solution to solving that visual issue, was to place a wall at the base of the foundation, so it would look consistent and continue down into the ground.

I must be too young (game, not RL), but for the last year, The pic shows how I have been building.

Are you talking about a fence foundation only, then a wall?

Walls have never snapped to the ground, but then I only have the above mentioned year ingame.

Still confused, but regards

jim

See where the fence foundation is placed? You used to be able to put a wall in the exact same place, so it would sink into the ground just like the fence foundation.

Sorry, before my time.

It’s not possible since a long time. I can’t remember why, but it seems to me that it was intended. To continue to lay walls against foundations, use a mod such as Less Building Placement Restrictions.

You have to place the walls first, then foundation in the middle. Cannot do it the other way anymore. been like that since i can remember. I am on console PS4, and got game may of 2018. Don’t know if that helps.

That’s needlessly complex, especially for when making floor plans. You also will not be able to upgrade them. What Funcom ought to do is revert the change, so we can place them as we used to.

This hasn’t been a thing for almost 2 years. There are mods available to offer this as a feature.

It’s a shame that it has to be re-enabled through modding though. An ini setting would be perfect for toggling that one wee feature off.

Tho’ I have downloaded your mod, after a user in the Discord recommended it. So thanks for making it.

I support this. It is a cosmetical issue. I am not playing since 2 years. But in my last base that is close to raw rocks, it would look much more nice, if the raw foundation structure could be hidden with walls.

I know we are in the PC section, so the offered solution might help there. For a console user like me it is no option. So this thread might have been placed better in the common section.

Rep, thanks for bringing this up, but unfortunately not for the reason. I never knew that the use of a fence foundation would add the aesthetics on the right side of the pic below. To me, and yes, I only used sandstone, I like it. (modless)
