This has happened before, it is happening now (by fan request, too!), and will continue to happen.
something eso did was offer the items a year later under a price tag slightly more expensive than the pre-order cost. When a new chapter was released, you could pre-order it and get all the bonuses immediately. If you were unable to then or you were late to hopping on the game, a year after its release you were able to purchase them. A totally reasonable solution. But honestly, they need to make fashionista official if they do something like that because there’s no reason to use Royal Armor otherwise.
Any of us can come to your server/coop game and craft all those things for you as a present. You can not only see them on other players like some account-binded assets in the World of Warcraft. You can own and use them and even repair them when you have legendary repair kits. You can’t craft them, that’s all.
To be honest , I didn’t made that run to claim these twitch stuff . Plus I do not own all the Dlcs no matter if I play this game more than 2 years , I don’t say that they don’t diserve the money or they are expensive , not at all , but I buy what makes me really want to own or it was necessary for my play style , let’s say that I am just a practical person . I can understand @Aextillidan however that owns all the Dlcs and maybe runs a server too , the importance for some players to have everything this game can give . There are some heroes in this game that spend all their free time and money for others to have fun .They do , puzzles , parkur , events , inspiring constructions , the lawyer ,the psychologist , the judge etc … for other to have a well balanced gaming experience and a safe server to play . For these persons it is a great importance to have the recipe of these twitch drops , not for them only but to be able to gift them to the players that participate on their servers , or give them as a reward in an event . Yet again I understand you too my friend @Ko6ka by saying that if they made a decision to give to everyone these recipes then it would be unfair to the hardcore players that invest time and effort to gain them . There for the solution to pay to have them for me is one way road , because this way ,I believe , everyone would be happy , the ones that made the effort took them for free and the others payed to gain . After all it’s just a vanity issue and nothing more , but at the same time vanity in this game Is the greatest goal
.
Heey :c u watched me on twitch, to get ugly armor set, atleast u watched raw gameplay not randoms <3
But such promotions are usually not intended for players who already own the game and are actively playing it. promotion outside the game has a completely different purpose: new players and thus new buyers
Promotions like the Kill-Challenge, where you got the “Barachan Reiver” outfit for everyone, are aimed at existing players
I think both actions with their respective scope are valid
So I kind of missed a lot apparently, can someone tell me what kind of Twich Event only items exist?
I did not even know until know that there was this kind of event. Ö_Ö
Here you go @Nadia

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen these threads pop up and this isn’t the first time people have tried to make the same lame duck arguments. But the facts are the facts, pre-order bonus items are a simply that. A bonus item of people who pre-ordered the game. If you did not re-order the game why would you feel so self entitled to think that you deserve to have them? That is such a self centered point of view. Funcom was on it’s last leg and Conan Exiles EA sales are what pretty much saved this company. So for those of us who supported Funcom, and kept it alive, by paying for the EA version of the game and helping to test and improve the product prior to it going live should have access to something extra. Is the Royal Armor (which doesn’t even have stats that are game breaking, or even remotely end game) really that much for us? I mean, we can make them for you if you really want to wear them. As for the twitch drop, again this was a means to help promote the game and show it off to a wider audience and get some people talking about it in hopes that such talk would turn into new sales. Again, is it so difficult to wrap your head around those people who helped to promote the company having a few little items which again are not even remotely game breaking to much to ask? So sorry but no, they absolutely should remain limited time items. Should they decide to make the twitch drops available again for a limited time that’s cool too, if you don’t get them that second time that’s on you. You had your chance to get the items, you can still have people craft them for your even now.
Thx @h3rb1
To be honest I’m also not a fan of this Twich only stuff, I can live with it if the other players are able to buy it later.
But I’m against it if it stays exclusivly locked for everyone else except for people who have the time to watch the twich streams, there are often factors in Real Live like Timezones, different Worktimes and what not that make it simply impossible for some people to watch streams at specific times.
We can’t be 24/7 at our computers just in case some kind of event gets startet.
Actually happened to some extent in the original conan movie. Now you have to watch the princess with conan as opposed to focusing on James Earl Jones’s fantastic cult speech.
I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat myself.
I have nothing against rewarding people who supported the game during EA and I DO NOT EXPECT ACCESS TO THE SAME CONTENT FOR FREE.
I am saying there were better ways to go about it without making a unique item permanently unavailable in the game. They could’ve put it behind a paywall and give it away for free to everyone who preordered. I would not find it unreasonable if it were priced anything up to $19.99.
I don’t understand why a game needs to ruin the integrity of all available content from day 1 just to incentivize Early Access adoption. There were better ways to handle this than to penalize players for not taking a gamble on a struggling game company that was going all in on their final product.
And I am speaking as someone who didn’t even have that kind of choice. I did not have hardware that met minimum requirements at the time, nor was I in a financial position where I could just buy games for preorder bonuses and save them for later.
This argument that my attitude is entitled is ridiculous. All I’m asking for is not to cut content from the game and I’m even offering to pay extra for it because I recognize I missed the timeframe when it was handed out for free.
I don’t even care about the effin’ stats! I know medium armor is better. I view Conan Exiles as an immersive sandbox experience into Robert E. Howard’s world and that immersion is ruined when there are options that are permanently locked away because some company feels the need to psychologically entice its consumers in order to incentivize certain behaviors.
Time-limited exclusives are a bad trend in gaming. They are just signs of a shortsighted developer looking to cash out quickly and not give a damn about consumer experience in the long run.
I wouldn’t have a problem with these kind of tactics if there was alternative access available to those items for a reasonable price. It’s very off-putting to pick up a game and see there’s already so much content that’s out of reach because you missed the train for it. It’s the reason I quit WoW and the reason I stay away from any game that features any kind of Battle Pass.
I fear that with Funcom’s acquisition by Tencent we may start to see a similar trend here soon.
Exclusive items for beta access and early access is fine I think. I’ve beta tested some games before, even helped in late alpha, and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The least a company can do for people who help them stress test their systems, report bugs, play in certain areas during these times and those times and so on, is to give out some exclusive goodies. As a beta tester for the console release of Terra, I quite enjoyed some of the exclusive freebies that I got. It made me feel appreciated, at least a little.
As for twitch drops, I’m not really a fan of those myself but I do understand the reasoning behind them. I can understand why a veteran might get cheesed when he missed out on a twitch drop because he has a job or family obligations though. Maybe some veterans rewards would be nice. Cosmetics or armor or weapon sets that only unlock after 6 months of owning the game, then on your yearly anniversary. That might be pretty cool.
This again. It’s not permanently locked for you, you just can’t craft it on your own. Ask around.
If the Twitch promotion items were available, even at any point in the future and this was made known, guess what I wouldn’t have done? Spent a second watching twitch streams.
Well, twitch drops aside, its fairly obvious why companies do things to incentivize early adoption; that’s where the initial revenue comes from that makes or breaks a launch.
Exclusive Rewards for Early Access/Pre-order - no issues. I do not have the Royal Armor (love the look) and the sword either since I learned about the game in 2019 (started playing in Feb 2019). Those who played and bought the game in Early Access before the game was ready deserve the award as they dealt with the game growing pains and possibly giving feedback on improving the game. Either case, giving money before the game is truly launched is giving the game funds to continue.
I have gave money to Ashes of Creation to support the game in hopes the game will be my next big MMORPG I play. Putting money in a game before it launches can be a risk. There are games that failed to launch for various reasons. One of the EQ games (forgot its name) died a miserable death before it was launched which was not the company’s fault from I understand.
Twitch awards were there to award the Twitch Streamers and people who watched the streams. This was a way to advertise the game where the game did increase its numbers. Could they offer these things later, perhaps. Most likely if they did, it will not be this year if they do so. Its a free items which really doesn’t change the game.
Twitch awards if they release it again, will be next year.
They will never release the original pre-order items since that was an award to keep the game alive when they needed the funds.
It has absolutely nothing to do with “penalizing” players. It has everything to do with “rewarding” players.
I personally never watched a twitch stream in my life until this promotion, then I watched enough to get the items, looked at them, said, “Meh”, and moved on. So I could care less if they give those items to everyone.
But the pre-order items were “earned”, by a year and four months of literal hell sometimes. So yes, I mind that they would give those items away or even let you pay for them.
PS- I do not feel “psychologically enticed.”
I feel appreciative that Funcom recognized my contribution to the EA part of the game.
This is my participation trophy and you cannot have it.
Ok, it’s pointless to keep arguing over here because we’ll each just keep pushing our perspective.
If people think it’s a healthy practice for companies to take content hostage and say “hey, here’s this cool content that’s part of the game. Spend money now or it’s gone forever” then so be it.
It’s also naïve to think that paying for the privilege of doing unpaid QA work means you have developed some special relationship with the developer or has earned you some special place in the game’s history.
Please, I started playing in late 2018 and the game was still in a messy state ridden with bugs, exploitable glitches and rubberbanding all over the place.
All that EA testing didn’t seem to have done anything meaningful for the game.
This is such a common sales method, I don’t even know where to begin. Probably could see two examples in the next commercial break on your favorite local tv channel.
Do you even hear the absurdity of your own words? No one has “Ruined the integrity” of a bloody thing by making a pre-release item available for those who chose to purchase the game in early access.
It’s not permanently unavailable. Go ask someone to make it for you. BOOM you now have it.
Then that would invalidate it as being a pre-order bonus. That would 100% be unreasonable. It would be a complete slap in the face to everyone who supported the company and kept it alive and tested the game and made it a better experience for players like you to enjoy.
Not my problem, nor it that Funcom’s problem. The items are still available to you if you just ask someone to make them for you. It’s not that hard.
Read this post you just made. No, it’s not ridiculous. It’s pretty much justified.
ROFL!!! Yeah you are delusional. You should walk into your bank and tell them how unfair it is that they are offering better deals and benefits to new customers than they are to you, an already existing customer and how it ruins your experience that they feel the need to psychologically entice their consumers in order to incentivize certain behaviors. Or hell, ANY COMPANY EVER.
That is your opinion. I might not even disagree with you on this one but that doesn’t change anything, it is only an opinion.
Again, this is only your opinion. If you really thing encouraging the player base to get together with content creators on twitch in concordance with a free week which should hopefully bring in some new players to help bring the community closer and get people talking and having fun with one another even if they play different styles and on different server a case of them not caring about consumer experience then sure, you go ahead and spin it that way. Whatever floats your conspiracy boat there buddy.
