A couple years ago, in a dev stream, they noted that the majority of their players are on console.
Steam numbers are there for not terribly relevant when discussing whether the game is withering or not.
Mind you, this one isn’t saying that it is about to buy the farm, regardless of anecdotal experiences of servers being vacant and prey being scarce.
As for the pyramid set, that Stygian armoured bench and treb were not battle pass rewards.
That having been said, they did a palette swap of the arcane bookcase and a couple other items, but they were palette swaps rather than exactly the same.
This one still waits patiently for a pallet swap of Conan’s royal armour.
My bad.
But yeah the gurnaki wolf was another example. He isn’t white but still. And I don’t want to waste time on the wiki over such frustrating stuff.
… I don’t really care anymore.
Right, they mentioned making variations of items from the Battle Pass, but they do look very similar, but not the same. I would categorize this to recycled content.
They always want more players, I don’t think this is a sign of a declining player base.
Its not really going downhill if you look at the stats and previous years lol
And your examples makes no sense, these are far more popular games, Conan is more niche and was never that popular.
Don’t take it personal about me being triggered of the “game is dying statement”, its like eating at a restaurant you enjoy and the person sitting next to you is complaining about the food being bad.
The simple reason why Conan Exiles has a low player count compared to other more popular games of the genre is people not even knowing about its existence.
No game in this genre comes even close to Conan Exiles, at least on console.
The last time that I checked, Palworld was pulling in some serious numbers across Windows, Steam, and Xbox (19,000,000 total players with 7,000,000 of those being Xbox players). While we don’t know the numbers that Conan: Exiles is pulling in on Xbox or PlayStation due to the fact that Microsoft and Sony never publish player numbers, we can at least assume that Palworld is doing better than Conan: Exiles is on PC and Xbox.
When I told some of my friends that I was playing Conan Exiles, they answered “That game still exists? I would not have thought so”. They do not even know that the Ages are a thing now, they played Conan at its beginning and never came back on.
More than not knowing about the game’s existence, I think they do not know about the evolution of the game those past years. They think the game died years ago, based on memories of what potential they saw in it when it was first released.
No worries i can relate to that. But after 6 years i just have enough of FC. I was fooling myself supporting the game would result in a better product.
But i reached the point where i have to face the reality.
So sorry if i sound pissed, but i actually am.
Do you play on PC or console btw?
However I can’t help it but this curve speaks volumes to me.
My example makes perfect sense, CE could have been this popular. But they never managed to get it running properly, and didn’t sort out bugs and glitches for years.
Monster hunter was unpopular too until capcom delivered an awesome game and it became their most successful game ever.
If you look at the steam charts first page you can see all kinds and genres of games.
Quality and polished gameplay = success
A steaming pile of p¡ss poor quality like CE = fail
The conan franchise has more name recognition than these other games, when CE was first announced even on the radio they where talking about it.
Enshrouded, valheim, ark, rust and what not don’t have that name recognition conan has.
Pretty much everyone has seen the schwarzenegger movies (love them or hate them).
What made those other games successful is an overall better quality.
“The game is niche” is just another excuse to protect FC
Nah man. “Nobody” knows about it.
When we’re inside a thing, it’s easy to mistake it for being much more widespread than it really is.
I don’t know a single hard core player that knows of this game, and I know a lot of them. They only know about it when I tell them to try it out.
Want an example? Me. I only started playing post Siptah. Why? I had no idea the game existed. Yet, here I am, with near 5k hours sunk into it. I wish I had known of this game as soon as it hit consoles.
The game isn’t well known you’re right.
But that wasn’t the point.
I was referring to the conan franchise as a whole.
EVERYONE knows who conan is, and everyone knows arnie was the guy playing him.
And at least where i live, even the mainstream media was talking about CE when it was about to release.
(Because of nudity, slavery and the violence and all that good stuff i still give FC credit for).
And the fact that it was attached to a well known character played by a well known actor was the reason for the attention it got at the time, even from mainstream media, that doesn’t happen very often.
That’s how i got aware of it and i bought it shortly afterwards. Didn’t preorder it though.
However, they failed so badly to capitalize on that, and that’s why the game was for free on ps+ a few months later (can’t remember exactly).
And how badly they handled the game I don’t have to explain, you know better than most.
Anyways long story short, CE had some name recognition the other mentioned games didn’t have, but they still do better.
Its alright, I’m also a little salty with Conan for reasons… they should listen to the players or at least pitch new idea’s with us before they take the game in the wrong direction.
Its only logical after a content drought, it happened before and it won’t be the last time.
Age of Sorcery was fairly good, so the dip was a lot less, but before AoS we had a loer player base after a long silence from the devs.
Fair enough, if Funcom choose the right direction I think you’re right.
A big sandbox in a brutal world where you can build your own kingdom, role play and pvp and whatever else comes to your mind is something most gamers would dream of!
But we went a bit off topic (i mean sometimes you have to, to get your pov across).
However, i think exclusive content does hurt the game more than it helps.
I have the game since release, bought all the DLC‘s but took a break from CE when AoS hit and messed up my game.
I came back during AoW chapter 1.
Missed a lot of stuff and now FC tells me i wasn’t patient or supportive? Wtf?!
Also if someone like me plays the game on console and would actually switch to PC, there is no chance to get all the stuff you already “have”.
It’s also puts off new players i think, they check out the game on youtube or twitch and think “wow that looks awesome!”
Only to find out they don’t have access to half of that stuff, even if they would purchase it and support the game.
Most are like “ok, fvck you then”
In Doom eternal for example you have an id-software account, all your purchases and unlocked stuff is linked to that.
I was lvl 260 or something like that, switched from ps4 to ps5 was lvl 0 again. But all my stuff was still there.
This one’s response goes far afield from the topic of the thread.
Confining it to Bazaar and Battle Pass.
This one loathes Battle Passes. Full stop.
Game should not be job. Battle Pass turns game into job. Battle Pass player pays for the privilege of doing drudgery to get the digital goods. Atrocious.
As far as Battle Passes go, the one in this game is probably the best of it’s odious ilk.
The Bazaar is long past time when a catalogue would be utile. The initial (not incorrect) claims that it would look anemic are no longer an issue. But whether it is maintained in this way due to the dread FOMO or just because they don’t have dev time to adjust it is unknown. The rerelease of the still manky Yamatai tea and geisha house set is sorta telling in that regard.
Regarding creating a way to use the premium content when not connected to the Funcom (sometimes) Live Services. This one is was and always has been 100% in favour of finding some way that resembles more the DLC in ensuring off line availability of assets.
Regarding state of play…
That is a different thread or a direct message. Not entirely relevant to this topic, but in short, the only pleasure this one finds in it currently is as a more brutal version of Sims. Blocks and Dolls.
I just rushed through it via admin panel, and played other games.
As if i would pay more than i already did after the last chapter updates.
But i can see the reason.
And i know exactly what you mean @LostBrythunian . As a newbie it’s fine to try out things and play with the mechanics a bit.
But as a longtime player you know what to do and reach the end very quickly. And you’re also much more aware of bugs and issues a noob would probably not even notice.
As I said elsewhere, things would be much better if more developers approached Battle Passes the way that 343 Industries does. If they were permanent additions to the game that we could go back and pay for at any time, people would be far more incentivized to play the game.
I had to ask a friend to help me spruce up my Single-player treasure room yesterday because I completely missed the last chapter and did not get the extra treasures. If Battle Passes never expired, I would never have had to resort to such measures.
