It is inevitable that sometime in the hopefully far distant future, Conan Exiles servers will shut down permenantly, it happens to all online games eventually, however Conan still has the ability for us to play singleplayer even if we do not have an active internet connection, and the DLCs from Steam still works without a connection as well, however Bazaar items do not. they still exist in the files (if you have already placed a Bazaar item in the world it will not disapear if you play offline) however you cannot access them without an active connection, so what i am wondering is this: has there been any talks about what will happen with our purchases when the game no longer has servers? thank you for reading.
If by âtalks,â you mean people bringing up that point, then yes.
If you mean Funcom giving an answer, then no.
Yeah your are asking for an exit strategy when the CE business is done and no business I know deals with that until the reality of the end is obvious
I believe what you are truly asking is that you want to have access to your Bazaar and Battle Pass items without an internet connection. This has obviously been asked hundreds of times and has nothing to do with official servers (AFAIK). It should continue to work as it does now, long after the official servers stop running (in the far distant future).
The original DLC was purchased through Steam which is why it works differently, but your Bazaar and Battle Pass items require an authentication hand shake through a third party which must validate your Funcom account before it will allow you access to âonline purchases.â This is my understanding anyway, so it does require an online connection but does not require the official servers to be running and it will work in single player, long after the official server have been shut down (in theory).
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
Thereâs a few ways this can go. But access to Funcom servers is pretty much irrelevant. Bazaar purchases will likely be available long after those servers end. They end whenever the G-portal agreement ends. If I were to hazard a guess, that would be either 2027 or 2028 as seems they are on 5-year intervals (actual times are speculatory). Server population of those servers will decide if they are renewed.
If they are not, then Bazaar content will rely on revenue goals. If they meet them, then development continues. If not, then a sunsetting process will be implemented.
The question in the OP is what happens if the latter happens. Well I suspect no new content, but the ability to continue to purchase. The game is hosted by retailers whom take a cut of purchases, so it wonât go anywhere there. As said before, DLCs on Steam and such will be available.
But Bazaar content is interesting. I suspect Funcom Live Services and its integration with Microsoft Playfab will simply continue as a validation process for the game to allow access to purchases, unlocks (like twitch or battlepass), and other promotions. How long that goes on for is hard to say.
The question is for how long. Will we have access to bazaar items in 2050? Probably not. Playfab may not be around, or change how it communicates with games, and by then CE is likely not being worked on anymore. So like many old games with online features, they will slowly begin to fail after the game is no longer supported.
2040? Maybe not.
2030? Probably, but with differences.
Personally I think we have ~10 years before this is a concern. But the concern is valid. Anyone whoâs played a MMORPG for example that has its development ceased and servers shut down can tell you. You lose everything. The purchases you made go to the void.
However, making purchases in games who were established and mature are less likely to have that happen. For example, I still have access to purchases I made n Everquest over 20 years ago. Those items are still present on characters who are old enough to serve in some sections of my countryâs government.
It comes down to personal preference. Are you comfortable with making purchases, then do so. If not, then donât.
AFAIK you are correct.
this is an excellent answer. thank you.
This is a very good topic. I donât plan to leave âconan exilesâ items to my son or grandson. But if they say itâs the last 2 years, I wouldnât want to play the game again
Knowing that it has a very strange contradictory ending, it becomes meaningless to waste time and effort.
