So my question is … Lets say FAPCOM shuts Conan Exiles down … all the severs … but we have bought the game … WILL WE STILL BE ABLE to play the game offline and single-player or coop?
I mean … I would really like to support them and buy stuff off the Bazaar and Battle Pass but … all games have a lifespan! All do! And if FUNCOM shuts it down … will I still be able to play it locally on my PC and enjoy all the stuff I paid real money for?
I have some cash lying around from extra work I did and could use it to support Conan Exiles but … If I wont be able to access it later in Single or COOP mode … wont be worth it. Would be a waste of money. (some would say all virtual game property is a waste of money).
Is there somewhere where I can read or see if I will be able to use this game for as long as I want or … is spending money on the Bazaar and Battle Pass just a waste!!!
And if not … they need to announce that!!! I might have missed it!
Thanks!
I would pump all kinds of money into the Bazaar and this game if I knew that in 10 years I could spark up the old 10 year old PC and still enjoy this game!
It would be more like an INVESTMENT and not a game. Lol
I still have my Age of Conan and Secret Worlds accounts … and those are online … asking for Offline Single-Player stuff to continue would be much easier I think!
That’s what I am asking. I know there are some games that are ONLINE only … even in single-player …
I work in a basement way down … no internet access and what I have is not for gaming … sooooo
I want to bring this game with me on a laptop to keep playing … Offline … and when I get back to an internet connection … do COOP … so was just wondering if that was a thing for this game …
I mean … think about a game where … You can play it offline or just COOP with your friends … and every now and then … log onto the internet to see what is new in the Bazaar!
You see what is there … buy what you want … say … $100 or $200 bucks worth … add it to your OFFLINE account then continue playing … and go back every 4 to 6 months … to see what’s new!
Sustainable!?
I would go for that!
And you don’t want to be ONLINE all the time cause the new patches keep breaking everything and giving you new bugs!!!
Like leave my BASE GAME alone … I just want new stuff from the Bazaar!
Kind of like MODS but … from the game and Official …
Good morning .
As for classic content (the old DLC before the ages come), you would have access to these even after a possible closure of the servers.
On the other hand, the content Aquis Vias the Battle Pass or the Black Lotus Bazaar, you must need an Internet connection to be able to use it.
So if you could not connect to the Internet, you would not have the items purchased since the implementation of the new system.
Indeed, for profit from the purchases of the bazaar or the battle pass it is necessary to an internet connection. This connection is required to check the rights and licenses. So if you couldn’t connect, avoided any bazaar purchases
It just seems like FUNCOM does not want to sell stuff on their cash shop. I mean … Lets say I only play OFFLINE … but am wondering what is new on the Bazaar! I log onto the internet … check the Bazaar … BUT ONLY see what is there NOW.
They have time limits on things … why is there not a TAB for ALL things that you can log on and buy ALL AT ONCE if you like them! You know you are going to bring them back anyway …
I play Fortnite sometimes … they always bring back all the LIMITTED TIME stuff …
Stop limiting the time we can buy things … have a tab where we can buy what we missed while away for months … LOL
I would suspect that its about getting the interface right. Yeah it could be a full list with everything there, but that’s going to make for strange presentation. I’d like a drop down of currently unlisted stuff at least that I may have missed as well, but how a console player would navigate it would have to be worked out.
Conan has a separate server executable that anyone can download/run completely for free, i.e. not reliant on Funcom or GPortal or any other provider.
This is in fact the best Conan experience you can have, when joining a properly configured and setup private server using this server executable; it is night and day compared to the official servers or GPortal private servers.
When I used to run my own free private server, I was hosting 60 slots at a 50 server tick rate on a 2012 laptop on a 100MB/40MB Fibre connection, with zero lag and zero complaints, (for about 18 months).
Anyway TLDR: Unless Funcom manages to somehow screw this up, Conan private servers, or even the ability for you yourself to host a private server will be available long after Funcom is a forgotten blip in video gaming history.
I’d love to know whatever it is you’re on when you make these threads. I want some too, maybe it’ll make me forget that I was unlucky enough to see this thread.
I seriously hope they add a patch to fix this issue if they forsee some sort of shut down with their servers or disconnect from other servers such as the ones consoles use such as PSN.
I know they don’t have to, but it’s not freely advertised that baz items and battle pass are always online.
If you know that then the risk is on you of course, but if they don’t openly tell people, then shame on them.
The following part is the most relevant to your question:
In case the legalese is not clear, this means that they can, at any time, decide you can’t play this game anymore and there’s nothing you can do about it.
EULAs like these are normal in the industry, but if push comes to shove and the consumers decide they’re fed up with this shіt, we might see some legal battles that could result in new consumer protection laws.
Until then, you don’t own your game. They own it and if they decide to pull it, you’re shіt out of luck.
Now, on to your original question:
The short answer is: no one knows. Keep reading for the longer answer.
The way things are implemented right now, there’s this thing called Funcom Live Services (or FLS for short) and it’s needed for authentication and authorization.
In technical terms, authentication means proving that it’s you who owns that copy of the game, and authorization means determining what you can do with it.
When you start the game from Steam and you go into the main menu and the game says it’s logging you in, this is what happens:
The game running on your computer asks your Steam client for your Steam account ID and a “token” (a bunch of special numbers) vouching that you own this game.
The game then sends that data to the FLS server on the Internet.
The FLS server contacts the Steam server and asks it to verify that this data is legit.
The Steam server says “yep, this is the guy, he really does own this game, and the token proving this is valid”.
The FLS server looks up your FLS account ID (or creates a new account if this is your first time) and returns it to your game.
The game says “okay, now you’re logged in”. It can then use this FLS account ID for various purposes.
One of those “various purposes” is to check what you own in the Bazaar, for example. Another one of those “various purposes” is to connect you to a Conan Exiles server where you want to play: it sends your FLS account ID to the server, so that the server knows “who” you are and what you own in the Bazaar, etc.
So why am I explaining this? Because the whole concept of “Funcom shuts Conan Exiles down” isn’t very well defined. The answer to your question depends on the details of what you mean by “shuts Conan Exiles down”.
Here’s one scenario: Funcom decides they will no longer do any development on Conan Exiles and shuts down all official servers, but they keep Funcom Live Services running. In this case, you will still be able to play the game on private servers, and in single-player, and in co-op, no problem.
Here’s a different scenario: Funcom shuts down everything, including their FLS servers. In this case, you’re pretty much screwed. You might be able to play your game offline, if Steam is in offline mode and your FLS credentials are cached locally in your Game.ini file. But no more online play of any kind. Oh, and since you’re playing offline, you have no access to anything you bought in the Bazaar.
In between those extremes, there are many other possible scenarios, and no one knows which one will eventually happen.
Funny thing, that. I can’t find even one mention of any other game being integrated with Funcom Live Services.
Oh, sure, I imagine the upcoming Dune game will be, but for the moment, FLS seems to be a Conan Exiles thing.
That said, I’m not worried either. Even in the “catastrophic” scenario in which FLS is shut down, it’s not the end of the world. There are solutions for that.
EDIT: Well, at least on PC. Not sure if it can be solved on console.
This would also include, thanks to the implementation of the Baraar, all of the old Culture DLC pack as well as the items you unlocked via the battle pass or from twitch drops. Probably also older exclusives such as the Royal Armor. Basically, anything you can craft with the DLC icon as shown below. That is from the Royal Armor, which was an elusive item if you pre-ordered the game in early access.
This is an item from the battle pass, same icon.
This is an item from an old culture DLC, same icon.
This is an item from the BLB, same icon.
So yeah, it is a whole swath of items that you would no longer have access too if that was the case.
