This is appreciated. But this thread os about taking dead servers (1 or 2) and only using those as a litmus test to see if regulat wipes brings back some players. If it chases off the few 10-15 that are legacy on those for 50, then i call that a win. And an option. Again, variety for officials has no maintanence, because FC doesnt admin them. It is one or 2 already existing switches for DBD and rates and a script every 6 months for the wipe ones.
Again, if you want servers getting regular wipes so the game runs better, your assumption is a fallacy.
If you want server wipes, simply for gameplay reasons, because they have a start and a finish, that is a valid idea. Even better if this is cyclical nature is incorporated into the story or a reward structure.
It probably can attract new people, but expect that when 30+ people are playing simultaniously that this will cause server issues.
Forget all the technicalities and technological limitations, just ask yourself what you want and expect from a server wipe first, then see if that is even remotely feasable.
- might increase server performance (a fallacy)
- might bring back players (a simple guess)
- might even attract new players to the game (another guess)
What constitutes even a âdead serverâ? If a single dude played 2000 hours on an official server, and he is the last regular guy to log in, is it justified to delete it, based on guesswork and hope?
Those guesses and fallacies are not going to convince anybody impacted by such a wipe, and loosing what he/she has built up and collected over the years.
Why not start the whole idea with âNEW SERVERSâ, why the need to wipe existing ones? And while at that, why not leave FUNCOM out of that completely and just start a new private server: âRegularely wiped basic EL serverâ.
Nobody gets their stuff deleted, and you and the 4 others who think that this is a great idea can do whatever you want there and then wipe it clean when you feel you need a reset.
no matter what a fresh wiped server allways run better than a 4-5 year old server their have never being wiped in the time period
but on this topic we talking about 2 servers and no one says its has to be old servesr their needed to be wiped they can make 2 new servers its up to funcom when it comes to that point not us if they taking 2 old servers or not
Has Funcom made any substantiated statements about this recently?
I think if the blitz servers in the past had been a success, they wouldnât have been shut down so quickly. Perhaps the staff behind Conan Exiles know something that no one here knows in this thread - and by that I mean any technical observations, statistics or survey results. My personal view about topic, and I can only speak for myself and the circle of people around the official server I play on regularly:
If Funcom should start swiping our official server (regularly), all of us would stop playing Conan Exiles.
When it comes to server performance, increasing hardware features will have a net positive effect. Seasonal âwipesâ only have a positive effect in the first week or maybe 3 days. It is misleading. It is never a permanent performance increase.
So clearly improving the server hardware is the most effective solution. Apart from that, optimization, that is, improving the software, can be a solution. But really, a seasonal âwipeâ will only produce positive results for 1 week.
Are you only satisfied with 1 week a year? Is 1 week enough for a good gaming experience?
The blitz servers are a poor example. They were PVP and every 30 days I believe. Whatâs been suggested is annual or biannual. Some thing for players on the officials that like to start a fresh game on a fresh server with others of the same interest.
It has been pointed out repeatedly these would be fresh servers.
I put it closer to 2 months before the build junkies have paved enough of the map to have an effect. But my opinion people that like building big wouldnât be on a wipe server.
You really have no way of knowing that. We are talking years worth of building vs months. Unless you put together a clan whoâs only purpose was to pave the server, I donât see a wipe server ever getting as loaded up as any of the present servers; excluding the runs smooth but broke PVP servers {saying more will get you edited fast}.
This is definitely a good idea. I want to make a youtube series in my own language, but choosing a server is a very difficult choice. A server that is âwipedâ every year would be a great option. Let alone the old ones; the idea of ââcoming up with seasonal âwipedâ servers is great. Why would people object to this? If you donât like it, youâll continue playing on the old servers, itâs very simple.
then you respond to his claim that it would increase performance for justa weekâŠ
So you know this is just a guesswork, but you sell your guess AGAIN as a fact⊠At what point will you realize that your guess is just as good as his or mine? Why do you insist that you know any better?
Huge buildings would only be an issue if they reached the size of your egoâŠand that would literally be a completely build over serverâŠcompletely full of itself.
" To reduce server lag in Conan Exiles, consider increasing server capacity, managing player bases, and implementing regular server resets. Additionally, optimize server settings, potentially reduce the number of active players, and stack size.
Detailed Solutions:
1. Server Capacity and Management:
- Increase Server Capacity:
More slots generally alleviate lag, as it reduces the number of players vying for resources.
- Regular Server Resets:
Implement regular resets, ideally daily, to clear memory and prevent lag buildup.
- Player List Management:
Regularly clear inactive players from the server list.
- Optimize for Server Load:
Consider reducing the number of active players at peak times to minimize server strain.
2. Player Base and Build Limits:
-
Smaller, More Spaced-Out Bases:
Large bases can be a major cause of lag. Encourage players to build smaller, more distributed structures.
-
Limit Base Size and Build Limits:
Restricting base size and building limits can help prevent excessive lag caused by large, complex structures.
- Consider Public Crafting Areas:
Encourage the use of shared crafting areas to reduce the number of crafting benches needed at individual bases.
3. Server Settings and Optimization:
- Adjust Stack Sizes: Reduce stack sizes, potentially using a stack size mod, to minimize memory usage.
- Manage Mods: Remove unnecessary mods that might be contributing to lag.
- Optimize Economy: Implement economy tweaks to discourage players from hoarding excessive inventory, which can contribute to lag.
4. Other Potential Causes and Solutions:
- Server Restart:
Rebooting the server, especially when facing memory leaks or increased lag, can provide temporary relief.
- Flush Cache:
Flushing the gameâs cache, either by loading another server or starting a new save in single-player, can also help with lag.
- Check Internet Connection:
Ensure a stable and reliable internet connection, as network issues can also cause lag.
5. Advanced Techniques (Requires Server Knowledge):
-
Tickrate Adjustments. Lowering the tick rate might help large servers by reducing CPU usage.
-
Manual Admin Cleanup: Consider manually cleaning up the map around the server".
they could make a flag where you only have that space around the area to build and if you upgrade the flag you getting a little bit more land and if you upgrade it like 3 times just as exsample you can make another flag another place their dont can be upgrade. so players dont can build massive bases on the server so we have less lags when it come to loading in the buildings, adn if you are a guild you only have 1 big flag their can expandes so bigger area but that should only happend if their are players in the guild and not with a solo guild,
Iâve pushed for a system like that but I like to have multiple builds as well, soâŠ
yearh they could easy do that by making so if you upgrade yourr flag enough times lets say 3 times you can build a flag more another place and you can you grade you main base 12 times that will mean in total 3 bases and 1 main base. (so you not ending up with have potals every where and 1 person have 20 diffrend small buildings and maybe 3 big bases) to make the lag on the sevre smaller when it comes to building in the offciels and private servers, but it shall be a server option for private servers.
but back to the topic ingeneral it could be nice if they test it out with 2 servers on each reagion for a year with the wiping each 6 month both for pvp and pve
My idea was your start with a flag that allows you to build in X space, every 10 levels you get another flag. Meaning 7 by 60th level, mix and match from there. Trying to make it work with clans gets complex, but not a popular idea.
maybe its not a good idea or it is but one player have a massive building their prevent people go in that area and getting it to lagging becuse of the game is not good to render the massive large building in. thier should be some more specific ground rule when it comes to building on officiels if your in a clan where your are a x=numbers of players in a guild you can build masive building becuse you seing it on allmost every offciels server where people building so massive or so big of a area that its getting the servers to lag and that just means less people can play on the same server that their have being alot of problems around. ( with the flag you can make in many diffrend ways so it can be good) but let us return to the topic
Just like how people can start up a server with a pre âAgeâ version of the game they miss and liked, people can fire up servers that wipe every year!
Nope, the official servers donât have wipes.
Nothing stopped him from asking form them at every opportunity, this would even be easier.
If I had the $$ to set up a private server with periodic wipes Iâd see about getting the backing of neebs gaming, I mean you have to join that discord to play on it. Practically guaranteed 3-4 players there and as many from here. That would put it up there with an official server population
No they donât.
If I give you a cookie will you go play?
I do not know why players here would want periodic wipes. If there was a small server to post then that makes sense, for live. I like the idea of having a fully automated admin mode. I mean basically a console that can open on a specific server. I digress on pinning adventures with console mode.
