Overhaul of Sepermeru - what do you think?

Maybe it is just me but I think there are others out there who agree with me.

Sepermeru is alway the place I end up at in the late game. Best dungeons nearby, neutral city and close to the north and northern resources.
There is one problem though.

I always detested how Sepermeru was designed.

Front doors half buried in the ground. Houses merged halfway into another house. Houses 1/10 of normal size (front door as big as a shoe) and not to mention that the watch towers of the city wall has their doors towards the enemy. It looks like an intern did this. It looks stupid. When you start to notice these things you see them everywhere.

I know what some of you will say - the devs should work on other, more important things. There are mechanical issues that need to be fixed first.
But here is the thing!

This is a design issue and not programming issue.
The assets are more or less available. Just redesign Sepermeru so it actually is believable as a town. Having houses with no access to (have to climb a vertical cliff to reach) or the size that only a family of rats can use is just stupid. Also, it looks sloppy and boring.

Funcom could put an artist to do this instead in creating a new overpriced clothing set for the bazaar. Maybe giving something back to the community.

I would love to have Sepermeru redesigned so it actually looks like a town instead of a failed art assignment (yes, every time I walk around there it is a lot of ‘WTF!’, even after all the hours I spent there). When I compare Sepermeru to available towns created by mod-creators the difference is painful. They have houses actually big enough to walk into. Imagine that.

Now, after all these years I think it is time for Sepermeru to have an overhaul. After trying the Dev Kit I cannot see that this would be a big task for an artist at Funcom.

What do you guys think?

Would be nice. Also, add some clutter. The town looks so empty. A desolate atmosphere is fitting, but the tavern for example just doesn’t look like a tavern. The Nordheimer town, in contrast, looks lived in, so it’s not impossible.

Would also love to have small buildable areas within the city to place a bed and a chest or something - a little town house.

Some useful shops, more lore content
So much could be done with it.

Sepermeru, from day one, is the place we go to rise fast, not late game.
Late game is volcano or frozen lands.

Except pork, Sepermeru has nothing less than north. Actually it has way more benefits than northern, for example
How easy you find ichor on Asgard?

I liked it from day one, a city with ease and criminality on maximum. The architecture is outstanding.

Yes on this we agree, but for different reasons than the ones you pointed.

@Khaletohep did more valid points in my opinion

This :point_up_2:.

Sepermeru needs a bank

Sepermeru needs traders, not simple merchants selling 90% unnecessary things

Sepermeru needs shops with named crafters, so if someone doesn’t own a bladesmith for example, to go there and buy the weapon he-she wishes

Sepermeru should sell Siptah gear too

Sepermeru needs a training camp, to leave your thrall there and receive it the next day fully leveled

Sepermeru is a town that gold can buy everything

So yes, a lot can be done with Sepermeru and it would be nice to have an overhaul!

Yeah.
I always went to Sepermeru after I mastered iron, and did not rest until I had formed the entire team of artisans.
I collected steel, thick leather, weapons there

Take Lissa or Mandugai when they were still good, go to the Unnamed City, pull Brut and take Predators Blade.
After that the game was done.
I adore Sepermeru at night for the golden light of its windows. This is my favorite color.

To be fair they do have spiced pork. Though who knows what those Stygians laced it with.

The daily sandstorm would account for many partially buried buildings.

I wouldn’t oppose a revamp regardless. So much that could be done with it.

You could reach out to a well known mod author and ask them if they could make sepermeru more
 “livable”.

They lost the opportunity to capitalize on a good NPC city when they decided to abide to malcontent players and instead of upgrading the Exiled Lands, they used so much work hours to make another map and put there a lot of things that would make more sense in the Exiled Lands.

And in wine cellar all the meals you can imagine , skeletons do eat better from humans i guess .

The only thing worries me about this overhaul request is that Sepermeru is already “heavy”. There’s not a server that doesn’t have issues already, since all the master builders are in love with the landscape around the city.
Den could have some additions, what do you say @den?
And again wishes for happy holidays to all!

It’s just a background

Back in the late 90’s we wanted realistic games, games where you could enter every building etc, have sex with NPCs, but then the American soccer moms crusade begun and we are where we are now.

Sepermeru is not bad compared to Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 where you get a living sandbox, but you can’t do anything in it. You can’t even sit on a chair and order food in 99,9% of restaurants and clubs you visit there.

This is how it is, games are designed to run on consoles - 2 years old hardware on the launch day.
Games are sequels of sequels now
Nothing new, nothing ambitious ever shows up.

I already overhauled Sepermeru, then they added that useless princess in the pub and I had to start over.
Funcom don’t touch Sepermeru please

I would like to see every in game location Sepameru, new Asgard ect remade with the game building sets. Some games like valheim and enshrouded have don this. It also makes the player made builds fit in better.

Please dont ask funcom to make any changes to game.
Did that ever turned out good?

Maybe I was unclear or I missunderstand what you are trying to say but I do like the makro level design of Sepermeru. I.e. there is a market area, a tempel area, a tavern area, criminal area etc.
What I do not like is the micro level design.

For example, the macro level design is “Should this town have a temple area?” whereas the micro design is the actual temple area and the houses there “Should these houses in the temple area merge together like cookie dough and one house only have a half front door?”.
The current micro design even scaled some of the houses down so the front door is the size of a shoe box. Yes, these are also in combination throughout Sepermeru.

I think it looks awful, sloppy and breaks immersion. That is what I discuss. I have no issue with the macro level design of Sepermeru and I think there might been a confusion about that. I have a hard time believing houses with shoe box sized doors is what makes Sepermeru architecture outstanding for you.

As long as the change is only graphical there should be no worries.

In this “shoe box” , families with at least 7 children use to live .
In my island, my job is to renovate “shoe boxes” in to Airbnb houses in traditional villages and old town . People pay fortunes to spend a night in these “shoe boxes”. But we connect them somehow, so the spaces will be proper for 2 persons of this generation. The greatest bet however, is to keep the character and not destroy the original design, because the archeology department won’t authorize the building and close it for any use.
Now! How things scale, how shadows are? I am no architect, i cannot say.
If it offends architecture and you’re an architect, your complain may be valid, but for me, it was, is, and will be a game, it is perfect as it is! All i care about Sepermeru is different than the ones you do. My desires are more gamish than anything else.
Happy new year m8.

Lots of Set worshipers in Sep. Sacred serpents and all that. It could follow that the shoebox houses are for the snakes
Like a doghouse but for, uh, snakes. Yeah, I’ll stop now.

I wouldn’t mind if they to took that challenge mode from last year? or 2 years ago maybe, y’know for the battle pass progress, and just made some npcs in Sep that were quest givers and graft the challenges on to them, that reset every day, and the reward is just a supply crate of goodies, just a little grindable extra content available to you everyday to do if you want. And they could sneak in a few new placeables or fashion specific armor as rare drops in the crates for people to chase.

There are a few mods I have seen that fix it. I agree that Sep needs an overhaul, but my gripes are different I suppose. I end up in Sep 10 mins after I start every time. Its the greatest place to start for someone with a bit of knowledge and cunning. Can jump ahead by looting boxes for perfected steel weapons and sometimes Hsteel tools, now we get to the real goodies you should be looking for. Nox and Purple Lotus orbs. Need a Gas mask? Kill the 2 Set priests whilst standing on the Teepee next to them using a nox orb, with a bit of luck might even be the named and you get a bunch of loot. For officials, a few rounds around town collecting gold and coins and off to a player bar for a thrall or hit level 10 whilst prepping a 3x3 pad for a wheel. Walk into Conans bar and give the T3 dancers the ol purple lotus orb. They not your particular flavor? Stand in rafters then use a nox orb to cycle. You will need a dancer, t3 Sep dancers can take a hit if you help them. Before you know it, you can be poking around Silvermines or the Wine Cellar, get your self a RHTS, level them enough to take on the Zerker in Mounds. Then move to Riverend and open a nice bed and breakfast and retire with your first thrall, the T3 dancer until you find Lianeele.

Sepermeru could benefit from a visual and structural overhaul. Currently, the buildings appear clipped together in a way that feels disjointed, with doors and windows partially embedded in walls. This gives the impression that the city wasn’t designed with much attention to detail. It would be wonderful to see the entire city rebuilt using the building pieces available in the game. With the extensive variety of decoration items already in place, there’s plenty of potential to create a cohesive and visually appealing design.

Well, careful what you ask for. We might end up with a fortified, raidable city of rapid spawn, kos NPCs with no named crafters to be found.
