i keep getting this error. I’ve been getting it for the past month now. I have zero mods installed as I play on an official server. i’m not even subscribed to them thinking maybe they’d still affect the game even if uninstalled. The launcher is empty, the steam workshop is empty. Absolutely no mods are installed nor on my PC.
I’ve uninstalled the game completely and deleted everything in the folder, including the folder itself, reinstalled it, still get the error 3 to 10 times a day.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft visual c++.
I’ve been googling this issue and a lot of people have been having this issue since 2019 with no working solutions for any of them.
I keep having to verify the files over and over again and each time it takes 15-20 minutes. Sometimes the game will only run for 5 minutes before I have to verify the files yet again. Doing this so many times every time I want to play is annoying. Sometimes I can play for a few hours with no error. It’s completely random.
I never had this issue before when I played solo with mods a few years ago. But now that i’m playing on official servers vanilla, I keep getting this issue. Could it be an issue with the server I’m on? Another thing I noticed with this server is that it’s always getting the 9999 ping issue, so maybe it’s related? The server is 1727
Maybe someone has managed to fix this issue? i’ve tried all the solutions from the other threads here and on Steam, nothing works.
I get it too. In my case I play the game in 1440p UW windowed mode on a 4k HDR10+ 120 monitor and I move the window so the title bar is at eyebrow height - while the game is loading. If I move it at the wrong time I get that same error.
I’ve had it once without moving the window and that time it needed steam to verify the files to solve it.
If you do the verify thing (making sure the file permissions were normal) and aren’t otherwise interrupting the load but it’s still happening “3 to 10 times a day” I would look into the health of your hard drive. If it’s HDD check S.M.A.R.T. to see if the “reallocated sector” count is maxed out. If it’s SSD check the wear leveling or whatever. The other thing I would check is the internet cable.
After doing a quick check, everything is okay. This is the only game i’m having this issue with. no other errors. No other game I’ve been playing since I started playing this game again has this issue.
I play at 1080p with 75hertz monitor. I’m playing windowed full screen. I haven’t noticed anything specific that triggers the error other than it seems to happen when I try to move. How often the error happens depends on how long I attempt to play. 10 is on the higher end, while 3-5 is more common each day. Some days I wont get the error because I’ll just play for an hour or less and not play anymore.
After further research, i found some people talking about this issue on reddit. The conclusion seems to be that it’s an unreal engine issue when it comes ram or possibly “Windows Feature Update”.
One user bought new ram and it fixed his issue. Another user “uninstalled Windows Feature Updates” and that fixed it. I have no idea what that means and how to do it though. i’d like to try it. I’d rather spend another couple hundred dollars for ram I already have just to fix one game that’s having issues.
I also wonder if it’s the Steamworks Common Redistribution. It seems to update all the time and I see it downloading stuff when ever I verify the files for Conan Exiles. Not every time, but most times. I haven’t really paid it any mind until now, trying to provide as much info as possible at this point.
I actually had a bunch of files in that folder. There’s also another folder in there called “remote” with an image in there. No idea why though. It’s an imagine I’ve used as my avatar in a few places like steam and discord etc.
Welp, just got the error again, so that didn’t work.
With so many other people getting this error over the last 3 or 4 years, I wonder if there’s a real solution or if the devs just haven’t looked into it yet.
Someone suggested disabling Virtual Machines in the BIO’s. I tried that, but it did not work. Figured I’d just post all the “solutions” that don’t actually work here to save people the trouble if they ever stumble on this when they google the problem and find this.
I don’t think there’s anything those of us with this error can do other keep reporting it to Funcom. It’s been an issue for 3 or 4 years and there’s still no solution.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
If verifying the integrity of the Steam file did not work could you please try to install the game on a different drive.
Also are there any IO errors in the operating system event manager?
Can they post a screenshot for what you are seeing? Is this a game msg?
We’ve just updated your account permissions so you should be able to upload any attachments now.
My other drive doens’t have the space for this game unfortunately.
I’ve never heard of or know how to access a “operating system event manager” is. I’ll have to look that up and figure out what it is. I’m not sure what I’d be looking for. I don’t know what “IO errors” are either.
I’m also able to just run around and keep playing with the popup there. So I can at least run back to my base and put my horse in a safe spot. Then if I click Ok the game closes out and I can’t start it again until I verify the files. If I start the game without verifying the files, it just shows this popup right away again. So I have to verify the files which takes like 15-20 minutes. Then I can play again. Sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for about 10-30 minutes.
Just be as thorough as possible, the crash has never happened when I’ve been idle/afk. It seems to only happen when I move or perform some action. It happen when I’m foot, on a horse, out in world, or at my base. It’s happened so many times now, I’ve lost count and can’t remember exactly everything, but I think it always happened when I was in the desert. But I’m not 100% sure on that. I know I had a hard crash in north east grass land area. It’s the only time I’ve had a hard crash like that playing vanilla. I’m in the process of moving my base to the north west forest area by the river and I’ve noticed I haven’t been crashing as much.
It could just be a coincidence and unrelated though. But thinking back, I don’t think I’ve had this error outside the desert. which is where I spent 90% of my time until the last two days. I haven’t had the error once today and I’ve been playing for a few hours through out, mostly playing up north.
Here’s a screenshot of the error happening to me just now. I’m in the desert, currently moving away from this area.
Up until this point I had been in the highlands I guess it’s called? With no issue, but I was in the desert for about 10 or 15 minutes for the first time today and I get the error. It could still be a coincidence though. But it does make me wonder if maybe the only people seeing this error are also spending their time in the same areas. And those who haven’t encountered this might spend all their time outside of the desert? I’ll have to see if I get this issue up north or wait to see if anyone else gets the crash outside the desert.
This area is someone else’s base (I was about to use their map room) near that giant hand statue where the ghost lady jumps off of it.
In all my time in Conan Exiles I have had the error twice and a full reinstall fixed it. To answer the question no pak errors for me when playing in the desert. I am rebuilding my base there now so 90% of my game time is in the desert. I read in another thread that they had this issue after a windows update, could it be the case for you?
I’ve been having the issue for like a month or two at this point. ever since I started playing again. When I got the game and played on and off for years, I never once encountered this error.
So between the time I stopped playing like 9+ months ago and when I started playing again maybe 1 and a half months ago, there were some updates, so it’s hard to say if any of those updates were an issue.
I wish reinstalling the game made a difference, but it didn’t do anything for me even after going through steps to completely delete everything before reinstalling. I wish I had another drive to try it on. I guess I’ll have to wait until I have a new PC to do that. There’s no more space in my PC case to add another HDD, which I really want to do for multiple other reasons. Someone else mentioned that reinstalling on a separate partition might work.
@drachenfeles isn’t wrong to suggest those things tho. And it very well could be one of those things AND only affect Conan. So, while I’m not trying to ride or deride you, how did you check those things exactly?
