Pet taming and food

I have looked everywhere but can’t find an answer. When taming pets each one has different foods it eats and each food has a different percentage chance of it being a greater version of the animal.

I’m trying to tame a tiger. My question is, if for example I put in 1 feral flesh will it last the entire taming process or do I need enough to last the entire couple of hours.
If I need a whole bunch , and I put in 1 feral flesh to start it off, and the rest savory meat, will the chances of getting a greater pet still remain the same percentage as the feral flesh, or change to the scary meat percentage.

You will need enough to last the entire taming process and yes each food has a different percentage of getting a greater version and if you get shadebloom from midnight groove that gives 20% chance that will stack with the current percentage from the regular food … well this is from my understanding of it

You only need one food piece and yes they take different food if your trying for the greater pets shade bloom with whatever meat they take wolf take pork so shadebloom pork for greater gives you a 30% chance as an example

You are wrong. One cub - one piece of food to tame it. Shadebloom food speeds up taming (4 hours instead of 6 in vanilla game without changing settings) but does not significantly raise chances (i.e. 26% instead of 20% or so).

My bad I haven’t tamed any pets yet I prefer thralls but what I’ve said it’s what I read guess I misunderstood it

So I put the shadebloom spiced meat in. And if I put anything else in along with that it’ll still be the percentage of the shadebloom that counts right?

The baby will consume one item of food when you put it in the pen.
It is that item of food alone that assigns the percent-chance of the greater pet.
So best to
a) ensure any adult pets in the pen are currently crafting dung so they don’t consume the food you want the baby to eat. Or drag the adult pet into your inventory until you’ve put the baby in and then return the adults to the crafting slots in the pen.
b) place the food item in the pen
c) place the baby into the pen and watch the food item disappear
