Will you ever finish the Gjermundbu helmet? It still lacks physics to the chainmail hanging. Other helmets like the Hyrkanian warlord has those physics, why does the nordic helm not have it?
Would it be possible to finish this helmet and add the physics, it would look much better.
Don’t tell anyone, but it is actually ok as it is - becuase it’s not chainmail, it is varnished wood. Freya comes from poor family you know…
Why should mail coif have physics?
Hyrkanian Warlord helmet the whole mail part is hanging in the air like a vail. (no practical use in reallife other than looks)
Yeah, that’s a fair point. The Gjermundbu helmet really stands out because the chainmail feels stiff compared to others that already have physics. Adding proper physics would be a small polish pass, but it would make a big difference visually especially for a helmet people actually like using.
What bothers me in this helmet is it’s height or maybe height of characters neck while wearing it. No matter which armor I check with it, my char always looks like an ostrich or hangman escapee.
IMHO. One problem is that Gjermundbu looks like it has mail coif. And it does not fit into CE’s overall 80’s fantasy look. It is too real
Coif has some badding inside and it should not move like something that is lose (and physics could affect). As a history geek it looks ![]()
If it would look more like hyrkanian vail like mail. (as so so many “viking” re-enactment helmets that are “based to” real one) Story would be different - physics of course.
Now it is off as it is. Compared to everything else. Kind of.
@Tweed And if you look at old manuscripts and painting from medieval times. Mail coifs look more like diapers on head ![]()
Would this look be more RE Howards view of vanir gear?
Checked in game and actually it was not mail coif. It truly is like Valsgärde, Gjermundbu… Not inside the helm put fitted to to the rim.
Maybe to make it to fit CE overall visuals - fantasy. Shorten the mail and add some physics- stiff and heavy. Check Valsgärde, would not move in wind but in heavy action?
I like this helmet precisely because it is one of the few that is realistic…
I understand that this means it doesn’t fit into the game very well for some people, but for me it’s a godsend.
However, it’s true that the chain mail part around the neck is… strange and could do with some improvement.
Interesting point, because the Gjermundbu helmet often gets treated like a fantasy prop instead of real gear. Game physics usually exaggerate weight or stiffness, while the original design was clearly about balance and mobility. A helmet like that had to work with actual human movement, not against it. Seeing more realistic handling would add a lot to immersion.
I use it with Poitain armor (or rather its skin), which not only looks good but is also functional armor that would only slightly restrict movement in real life.
Little “long neck” still, but indeed it fits, thx for showing.
