Player list Feature

yeah this is ridiculous

I want to quit the game… Seems like whenever someone brings up the hackers in the game asking YOU the devs for help, you flag our post as inappropriate and delete them. Now with the latest patch you HIDE THE PLAYER LIST, unless someone speaks in global?! How can we see when these hackers are on now? Unless you act fast, you will kill your own game! These recent hacks, involving people running rampant server to server at low levels, being able to walk through walls into bases outside of raid times even, stealing our stuff, teleporting around the map and insta killing whoever they want, flying etc… THIS IS ALL ON OFFICIAL SERVERS! Please do right by your community and at very least address these issues with us… Things were just starting to get good again. @Community

Sorry never mind, mods moving posts into the thread anyways.

Side A
Cheaters have anonymous cover. They always did, with PS4 alts, (formerly)Family Share, Steam name-shifting and Steam naming conventions resulting in IDs like 123, 234 etc.

Side 1
Now everyone has cover. I am free to pop onto any given server and add my toon to the fray. Now I won’t get Stream Sniped quite as easily. Makes “making friends” a worthwhile endeavor once again.

We both know this isn’t quite accurate Barnes and let me share why.

Everyone has semi-anonymous cover and although anyone can change that steam name and community id ect, they cannot prevent players from grabbing that real static id that does not change IF the PLAYER LIST is active and a player in game experiences a cheater/exploiter/hacker and wants to report them. You cannot deny this.

Removing the option for the 39 active players on every server to know the hacker/cheater is online and the ability to grab the player’s real id when abuse is occurring for your anonymity to pop into a server and add your toon to the fray is a ridiculous trade off. Well, unless you plan to be actively playing 24/7 on every single official server at the same time to stop these abusers?

No, the removal of player information and the ability for ALL active players on each server that may be experiencing the abuse to be able to click on the abuser and pass on the real id is a HUGE setback. It almost seems like Funcom/Gportal is going out of their way to help the cheating/exploiting/hackers continue their antics with an extra wide Funcom shield to hide behind.

Who decided on this feature, A GANKER???

Yeah, I’d love to know what the overarching goal is here. I can see the whole “if you want to know who’s on, you should recon their base” or something, but that seems pretty weak to me. And it would seem that this just makes it easier for stealth griefing/hacking on officials.

For those that keep suggesting there are other ways to see who is currently online in game and are missing the fact that there have been changes, let me share this in one short post-

ALL ability to see player names have been removed from in-game, Steam server view, AND BattleMetrics.

That’s a very important point. Steam ID, simple-numerical SteamID32, is something that is indeed unique, and it’s essential to try and obtain this for actual tracking purposes. I know you know about this tool, but I’m posting it for public reference.

Next time you’re on your server, will you please look at Steam|Players and see who shows up in the Current Game List? I’m getting inconsistent results, but I think it might’ve been helpfully left in our interface.

Yes, very important to try and obtain and yet, they just removed that ability for every single player being subjected to cheating/hacking/exploiting in-game.

I show nothing except a - under in-game player list, Steam server view, and BattleMetrics. No name, no steam id, no level, no clan. Every single cheater now subjecting me to his exploits and hacks in game is safe from me doing a single thing to report him to anyone.

I always thought the exploiters/hackers would destroy this game but as of today, I am pretty sure it is Funcom and their poor decision making. If I have been here since day one dealing with things like infinite Gods being walked across the entire map destroying all bases and I am now ready to despawn everything I have on every server and not look back, it is due to Funcom and their poor decisions like this one removing ALL reporting ability from players, not the hackers themselves.

There are players that want to steal from other bases without any trace or event log names.

There are those who also fear offline raiding, watching the player list for it.

If they never introduced those bug testing features on live, playet list and eventog, they would have to resistence removing then now. They are just trying to salvage pvp returning it to its roots.

Several members of my clan enjoy nothing more than to reach out to new tribes that look promising and meet up to give them gear, tools, even thralls at times. So much for that I guess, and I suppose that means they were misusing the player list by doing so anyway, as in PvP it’s only supposed to be used for raid decisions.

Not to mention last November/December when our server was plagued by cheaters. Having the advanced warning that they were on the server running around with the 50 **** glitch was invaluable, as it let use get back to base quick enough that we weren’t caught out in the wild and killed by someone who hit as hard as a thrall and didn’t seem to take any damage.

Now I have been on the other side as well, on my first server while playing as a solo clan I had the alpha (who I thought I had no problem with) wait for me to get off so they could hit my base. Luckily they were terrible and didn’t get far (until they started ddosing me), but it was a pretty dirty thing for a 10-man tribe to do to a solo player.

I’d still maintain that the player list still does more good than harm, especially in PvP.

In Steam, go to View → Players. It’ll show Current Game and Recent Games’ Players. Like I said, I’m getting inconsistent results, but the players on each server I’m logging on to are mostly appearing here.

I agree. New players need to see the server is busy with players before they commit themselves for endgame. The hyphen is a kinda-sort-of solution, as it still shows activity.

I know of a clan that uses the ps4 party feature to enjoin players into group before they raid him/her. Nice gesture? I think it is a little QQ, but it stops the players from rage quit. This is just an sample for the reason to hide psn names and just leave the character names visible.

It’s one thing to blow down doors and kill players, and it is another to get totally wiped. I’ve seen new players know what they are doing, quickly level, and wipe bases. Then, they disappear. Obvious alt.

Yes, but this is even slower than the server view player list for updating real time (took more than 2 minutes for someone I saw log in before they appeared here even with refreshing) and you have no player name so which one of the nineteen ‘123’ is John Smith who just instant killed me without being near me that I am reporting? I know his in-game name but the only thing I have to use now is his profile and I have 19 other identical ones on this list. Trying to use only this for reporting is archaic compared to the in-game player list and will only result in wrongful accusations. Most cheaters use generic ‘123’ for steam id which is the only thing we will have if trying to use the server player view. Nah, not a substitution for reporting abuse.

Im wrapping up my opinion on the hidden playerlist real quick and explain why i think(like many others) that its the most stupid and cheating welcoming thing you could have done:

  • Imagine someone is glitching but writing nothing in chat? You will have the hardest time to figure his steam id out and report him/her? Or normally you know some of the famous glitchers by their name so you can go ahead and prevent your stuff from getting stolen by glitching by checking if they are online. Have fun trying that now. I could come up with more reasons why this is a completely glitching comforting feature but i think 2 points are enough for now.

  • I can’t check the level of the players anymore if they dont write. Which results in killing, raiding low lvls or basically everything that comes in your way. Either you team up in bullying alpha clans now or you wont have fun anymore if you’re a soloplayer or just a 2 man clan.

-> Raiding is now even harder than before instead of easier and it doesnt help the offline raids because if you arent dumb you still able to figure out if someone is online. Hiding building timers would have a better effect on the raiding part and that wouldnt influence soooo many other parts negatively.

  • Playing with friends/allies is more annoying now. So many players are asking for an alliance system and what we get is something making it vice versa.

So please dear funcom, reconsider this asap because its not helping anyone.

PVE has still same old, playerlist

You’re correct, it’s not a substitution, I was asking for your feedback and you provided it! Thanks! Because your servers are denser-populated than mine, I can’t be sure if I’m seeing the full picture.

The “123” goes deeper than that, as I have been proving out over at Steam. As you know, to achieve this moniker all someone has to do is change the font of the Steam ID. And you’re correct, this coupled with the Player List lag does make tracking bad guys even more onerous.

Which is probably an oversight, since the manager of the CE Facebook page said this in reply to me:
"Thank you for the feedback. For the moment this will be active on all server types."

You have steam players lists, battlemetrics and a hammer.

It is supposed to be a survival game, so all of this should be removed for a real survival game :

  • players list
  • event log
  • global chat
  • steam players online
  • battlemetrics
  • check decay timer and the name of others buildings.
