Please, give us the option to unlock PvE and PvE-C containers

Hello there,

it’s been a while since I brought up this wish, and I really was not the only one for the past few years. But still no succes, so here comes my another try with few ideas in addition. I would appreciate each and every like in this matter, cause this way we have better chance that our wishes become true eventually.

  1. The first thing I would love to have in this game, is just plain and very simple option to manually unlock containers (boxes, chests, vaults, preservation boxes, and other similar to those). The same in PvP there is option to lock or unlock your chest, this exact same option could easily be available on PvE and PvE-C servers.

So what I am aiming for, is for those placeables to be locked from default, but just to have the tiny option to unlock it, if one wishes so. This can allow people to trade, to share stuff they has no use for, to build nice pubs and places for everyone, so more people enjoy the game alltogether.

  1. Another, less important idea is to remove locked status and option to lock crafting stations and placeables, which just can not be locked, if one uses a bit of common sense. Furnaces, workbenches, fireplaces and other similar should not be locked or lockable at all.

This way any player will be “forced” to build his base the way none other player won’t steal his properties. No more open bases without any closure or protection, just because one can do this in PvE. People could start to think more about the survival aspect and pay more attention to the need of taking the procautions stuff in building matters more seriously.

  1. The last thing is just one idea we came to with one in-game friend.

We were thinking about TRADING WORKSTATION addition, which could be very usefull in future, so people won’t have to throw the stuff they want to give or exchange on the ground with the fear of the lootbags decaying.

This workbench could work approximatelly like this:

There could be two layouts in the station. Both players approach it, open it and put their materials (items to their own layout space. The other player can not take anything from the other player’s space, unless he put’s there his payment, on which they agreed in there.

There could be some checking box, preventing the others from taking stuff of the others, which a player unchecks only when the terms they agreed on are met and the player is ok with the amount of what the other person put there as a price for the exchange.

What do you think about those ideas?

Thanks for support in advance!

I like the idea of having the option on chests. I’m not sold on crafting stations yet. Lately I’ve enjoyed the open concept base plan and have most crafting stations outside on PVE-C.

Creating a trading station or something similar to place things is an interesting idea that I would support. Leaving the chests out of it would help forgetful people like me. Having a container dedicated to “gifting” surplus items is a great idea. I wouldn’t have to worry about unintentionally unlocking some chest (or crafting station).

I personally often drop gifts at the feet of low level players. The very first friends I met on Conan came about through people offering gifts. As a low level noob I found the sandstorm mask to be a very appreciated gift.

Great idea!

Haha, you are the generous one as well  Well, I do not offer unwanted gifts anymore. The last time I tried, the person absolutely ignored and let those things decay.

I understand it from one point of view. Not everyone wants to have all the best from the start, they maybe want to explore and go through the game by themselves.

Me myself I never asked for anything. The effort to get everything by myself is very important to me. And today, I provide for free only for people, who openly ask for help.

I get pleasure from offering gifts. What they do with it is no longer my concern. Although I understand your concern. Generally I’ll pick it back up if they don’t seem to want it.

I don’t voice chat much so it’s usually just a bow from me and off I go. I don’t ever drop things I need. However, I have dropped berserkers on more than one occasion. But I have plenty of those kicking around.

I had a heck of a time getting the fast elevator recipe. I posted a sign at one of my outposts asking for one. About a month later someone ran by a dropped a couple of elevators at my feet. I thought it was rather random but I appreciated the gesture. I just threw them in a chest and carried on. A few weeks later as I was cleaning up my chests I realized they were fast elevators. I felt so bad for not reaching out and thanking them the day she dropped them. Later on somebody simply handed me the recipe.

It would be awesome to be able to unlock chests and other containers. That way people can start setting up rudimentary trading posts and similar.

It would be even better to have some kind of craftable trading station added to the base game, but I’m not holding my breath.

As for removing the locking from the crafting stations, I’m pretty sure that won’t fly with the players. I don’t really mind it, since I can – and usually do – put my crafting stations behind closed doors, but I’m aware that I’m in the minority

Years ago, i named this bench “charity table” and i explained a lot of times back then how a trading bench or a charity table no matter the name, is better than unlocking chests!
The benefits are many for sharing people in pve servers from this bench! I want it badly years now  so of curse i support this 100%.
One thing before i close, my main idea was these trading stations, benches, tables, whatever, to have a lower decay timer so i could leave and share food with and for other exiles!

@CodeMage, do you remember? Last time this conversation happened the topic started from Hulk, i really miss this guy “i want rope bridges”

I like all of your suggestions.
The thing is, years ago, the chests were originally that way in PVE ( there was no PVE-C back then ).
The problem was, new people did not realize they had to lock the chests and were constantly complaining that someone robbed them, and “nobody told them” they had to lock the chests.
So as long as they start out locked by default, I agree with you.

I like the idea. The trading bench or charity bench should have a sign stating what it is so newbies would recognize.
