PLEDGE: Give us a HARD Block limit/ Placement pieces on Official Servers

No it just means the salty ones came to the forum. The converse players would not post. No one exactly comes to the forum saying, “Its about time someone banned me! I skirted the rules all the time and finally got caught. Way to go!” Its not hard to not get banned.

Its already been confirmed that most of that are duplicate accounts.

Its been 7 months since the new enforcement procedures went into effect. They have not budged on their stance in that amount of time and have pretty much locked and delisted most posts complaining about bans.

At this point I’m with darthphysicist on this. Its only people getting banned complaining. Its kind of like going 5 over a speed limit and getting a ticket. No one says ‘oop I got what I deserved!’ its always ‘I was ‘only’ going 5 over.’

This is the biggest issue I have with these requests. People want a hard limit so they don’t get banned. So THEY don’t get banned. Every post in agreement within this thread is wanting that. I have a problem with that. They only care about themselves. “How do I play in a way that won’t get me banned?”

How about asking yourselves this question: “How should I play the game so I don’t screw my fellow players over?”

And if that is too vague of a question to answer, then there is something broken mentally or morally and that person should NOT be playing multiplayer, official or private. Just play single player if you can’t answer that question. You’re too broken to fix and just going to be a waste of time and effort.

Happy Birthday :birthday: @darthphysicist !!!

I’m having a little trouble with the English, but the way I see things is maybe different.

  • The new rules new enforcement policies are fairly easy to understand.
  • The ability to play within those rules and not get slapped by the new enforcement policies is achievable by 98 or 99% of players.
  • Of those one or two percenters there is a small minority who come here to complain. Maybe 10 people per month - and as the mods have suggested, some of them are indeed duplicate accounts.
  • It’s human nature that anytime there is a perceived problem some people will kick into high gear trying to come up with solutions.
  • A parts cap seems like an obvious solution until you run the thought model very far - and then it’s shown to cause more problems than it would solve.
  • People wanting to be controlled because they can’t control themselves are free to join private servers with such limits in place or run their own servers where no FC policies exist.

Give players a cap on pieces and there is still a way players can abuse building.

For example if I can place 10k of pieces I can place then in a single line, forcing other players to dismount jump over my line and then them mount again.

That is still in within the limit, long story short: a hard building limit wouldn’t suffice.

I’m glad Funcom is doing something (compared to other developers) about this building abuse t.b.h., but they should be checking the base and the reports more carefully as I’ve seen players banned which SHOULDN’T been banned.

The rules are a work in progress so it will hopefully get better eventually…

As someone who admins servers I know exactly why they ignore it. Its cutting out the riffraff. They are there to weed out the players they don’t want on their servers. The players they want playing on their servers are the ones mindful of others.

As I said, if you can’t answer the question I mentioned above, then they don’t want you on their servers. They get to pick and choose their playerbase. I’ve said this multiple times, official servers are private servers rented by Funcom.

The position after 7 months is clear. If you can’t figure out the rules, play somewhere else. They don’t have any obligation to make them any clearer.

Since you keep asking for a limit, I’ll give you one. Since I can mess someone up with a single building piece, the limit is 0. You build you get banned. So don’t build. If you honestly can’t understand the rules as written, then don’t build. You don’t get to build, building isn’t for you. Its only for those who understand the rules. You’re not in that group. You’re a sightseer, period.

Others get to build though, because they can understand the rules. Its for them, not you.

Upgrading would mean people would start building 80x80 sandstone cubes instead of 40x40. No matter how much capacity you offer, there will be people who strive to exceed those limits because they can. A limit on footprint (total number of foundations and pillars placed) and size (number of foundations, walls, vaults, etc.) really does need to be implemented based on clan size.

They’re clear to me. Very similar to rules I’ve helped write up. If they’re not clear to you (and I don’t believe you when you say they aren’t, you’re smarter than you claim to be, just not as clever as you think you are). So stop trying to play dumb here. Stop trying to find loop holes to screw other players. Just don’t be a dick to others. Stop it for God’s sake.

This was claimed by someone using a dozen accounts and got banned for it. So I doubt it is true. Again people aren’t as clever as they think they are. I’ve dealt with wrongful reports before. My favorite is when someone shows video evidence and no one they reported is breaking any rules they claim to be breaking. But the video shows the reporter breaking several rules.

The Funcom mods go through the same thing. So no, people getting Zendesked on a daily basis isn’t happening. At this point we have half a dozen people with multiple forum accounts muddying the waters.

I love how the one point that rarely seems to get brought up is the absolute firestorm that would ensue if FC ever adopted a building piece limit.

To be meaningful it would have to be set at a level that many people would likely find extremely restrictive.

Given their track record, they would set it too high (thrall limit for example) and it wouldn’t accomplish anything. It would just give bait to people to say, “I was under the limit, why was I still banned?”

But let’s be honest here, that’s what these people really want. Just something else to complain about. Kudos to FC for not taking that bait.

Banning a dick causes dozens more to stay. Not banning them causes them to leave.

Lose one DLC vs Losing Dozens.

That’s exactly what we’re arguing here, whether dicks should be allowed to dick or not. I say they should be banned. For some reason you all don’t.

“I don’t know how to not be a dick.” ← is a dick. Period. Ban them.

You’re being disingenuous. We both know the kind of havoc that can be wrecked by even less than 100 pieces.

I agree that Gportal is a main issue causing many problems. But like old age, its a fact you simply have to deal with. Its not going to change.

I have said numerous times that if they have a limit, it should be set to 0. Why are you asking -me- this question? I’ve already answered it.

Don’t build. Period.

Uninstall then. I bet you won’t. Come on, take the first step.

Yup! Or another way to phrase the same thing from a slightly different perspective:

Shape up and fly right, get with the program, or, hit the road jack.

Yep they’re clear to me too. I did have to stop and think about it though. At first glance they seem unclear. Then considering the rules in totality along with the changes they’ve forced on Official servers and in the base game… They became as crystal clear as you’re likely to get.

I see it very differently! I see them saying “We have a vision for our product and we want to encourage that vision on our FREE official servers. And we will make sure that anyone who doesn’t agree with our vision has a place too.”

People who don’t agree have WAY more options than people who do. They have the FREE dedicated server you can run on your machine and even have it listed in the server listings panel - set it up any way you like - even run older versions of it if you can get players to run matching version of the client. They have other people’s private servers either hosted on a hosting service or run from their machines locally. They have the ability to get a server hosted on a hosting service. They can play CoOp or Single Player modes however they like.

So that’s like five options for people who disagree and only one option that forces you to abide by their policies. Considering that, ALL of these arguments are revealed as COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS!

It’s not just blocks though. It’s blocks plus certain placeables plus number of storage plus number of thralls plus time of day plus any NPCs around plus the speed a person comes by plus. plus plus. Too many variables to just pick a limit on one variable. I remember back in 2020 the build style for PS servers when Gods came back was to create lag bases full of witchfire and that would stall out gods. While yes it would be nice to get a clear specification, there isn’t one. So we got this general, respect the others playing in the sandbox. I don’t have a problem with it because I typically build small and or efficient. However when I argue with someone over if over one hundred door stacking is excessive or not…we got a massive problem there and it’s not about finite limits but general ideas of how to play the game that just can’t be reconciled on the forum.

But it’s not about “simply building”. It’s about spraying sandstone over huge swaths of the map; this was just a small portion, it spread from Hand of the Maker down past Scuttler’s Shortcut. If you want to do this stuff for whatever reason, there are private servers. There’s no reason to do this on an official server.

Yeah, and just think… 100 doors is only 200 pieces plus what, another 100 pieces for the craves box. So the limit should 20 pieces total to stop people from doing that huh? :stuck_out_tongue: LOL

Yup!

Sounds like you do?

Unfortunately, this stuff is often done on servers where that’s not an option.
