Public Beta Client- Age of War Chapter 1 Update Discussion Megathread

Only one crash was me tonight, the rest was server instability or someone else found my little exploit

I can be almost certain that the very first mod to be created after this durability nerf for Legendary Weapons/items is going to be something to fix them like a new implementation of Legendary Repair Kits.

Unless you are Goblin Slayer that refuses to upgrade to a good weapon, most people just get a ā€˜best weaponā€™ and if they run across something better, update it. They donā€™t pull the third Hackmaster +25 after theyā€™ve worn out the others to dust.

Like I posted elsewhere, if you want people to use different weapons, make it more gradual. Like that each time you repair your legendary weapon, it loses up to a percentage of 1% of its permanent durability based on how much you are repairing up. If you are repairing it from the maximum damaged of 1% to full, it loses a permanent 1%. If you are only topping it off of about 5% damage, you only ding the weapon 5% of the base 1%.

It will add up and you will have to eventually replace it, but it will be a long time weapon, not the potentially near daily loss of a legendary weapon.

Iā€™m a bit on the fence for the new combat. Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s a forced design to keep you from just spamming your heavy attack chains, which is probably a fair ideal. Constantly spamming heavy attacks can keep one human NPC knocked down.

I noticed that I canā€™t quite spin around fast enough to not get bitten sometimes by hyenas. So I suspect that they are trying to make combat faster paced and ā€˜feelā€™ more dangerous.

I would make more sense that if you brought the weapon back to the smithy bench you can reforge weapon completely restoring it.

I like to illusion some weapons so this would require me to make 2 weapons to replace one in the current Age Of War test version. If Funcom think durability is some fun mechanic that players are going to enjoy repairing and replacing weapons over and overā€¦ well lets just say thereā€™s plenty of other games to play

Funcom: NpcĀ“s/Bosses do more damage now ā€”> Arena Champion laughing ā€”> People: fā€¦ it I am out

First thing I did was fight her, she still just as easy as ever imo. If you can fight any NPC with a mace without getting hit then you can take her out, she is no different other than she hits really hard.

Its not about the player, its about thralls

I guess I know what Iā€™m killing my first rocknose with. :skull:

So many players are going to die diving off rocks and walls, I predict it will be the number one issue in 5 weeks.

Ya, but high dives are purdy

Right now the short sword is king for me. I can take out most low level advisories in my first big combo. I might be exhausted after but the jabs use little stamina, so I can thrust, jab jab jab, and flourish to get the entire combo in.

I would suggest setting stamina to at least get in one full combo before exhaustion with any one handed weapon. Then Iā€™d feather or ramp stamina regen. Go right to regen when you stop attacking, but the longer you stand there the faster it regens.
COPD, when I get out of breath I need to catch my breath before my stamina starts coming up again

Can we stop calling it ā€œpurgeā€ and start calling it ā€œraidā€ or ā€œsiegeā€. Funcom seems to be good at misnomers. As in itā€™s a mass gather not a mass cull. Iā€™ll argue that one all day; and have.

AI seems worse then ever. And itā€™s not crowded servers. When I have to wait for the enemy to find me to attack, and Iā€™m right there, something is wrong.

I find the personal glow annoying. Just is :person_shrugging:

My EU base is going to be a bear to defend, itā€™s in a pretty wide open area. My NA on aught to be easy, 3/5ths the back is a short cliff. Easy ramp up.

Still having discon

nect issues. My internet is fine, the server is still up, just a lost connect error, not check you internet. I can log right back in.

Not as far along in game as I want to be to start exploring. I like T2 armor and steel weapons before I go to far from base.

Note: The bloodletter short sword borders on OP. LEAVE IT ALONE. Nice early on BUT might be P2W, At least till you unlock the steel short sword.

ETA: Are benches running real slow with out thralls or is it just me?

is there a way to skip intro, or remove it from start on test live?

esc?

I keep forgetting to mention I donā€™t like the change to emotes. I used to just have to attack and jump right out, now I have to open the emote menu to stop it. But a big thing but aggravating.

esc works just on start, if it starts you need to wait till the end

I have this issue on live some times. far to random to figure out a cause.

Am I the only one that thinks battle feels all wrong?
Sepermeru, dropping rhinos with ease, using an iron short sword. Taking multiple hits in T2 armor.
Just feels bad.

I like the feel that fights are faster. You do more damage; enemies do more damage; enemies have less health (no more damage sponges). But the aggro range feels wrong. If we can do more damage now, then let all those enemies come at us (if we want). Let them surround us and try to ā€˜group attackā€™. If we get in trouble, all we have to do is run way like before (or climb something until they reset).

Maybe instead of the massive stamina regen, maybe tone that down a bit (on default), but increase the stamina pool to compensate (on default)? That would also allow stamina buffs (like stamina regen) to actually still have value. I would also increase the dodge roll stamina cost. Being able to roll everywhere is not realistic (itā€™ll become the new meta ā€“ fights will all be dodge roll, strike, dodge roll, strike, etc).

Right now, the aggro range and stamina changes feel like they need further tweaking.

may be interesting to add a sign to warn you when you run out of stamina, not the animation from before but something like an short sigh, like after when you lift something heavy, personally i dont pay atentention on the meters in left up corner in the monitor but, when the screen turns bloody red i know im in trouble and is time to run. But with no sing of stamina running out you simple stop attacking and have to look at the meter. Nothing that we cant adapt but think it could improve the experience.

You can buff Legendaries without touching craftable weapons. Whatā€™s the point of crafting a Telithā€™s Sorrow, costing you 33 hardened steel and a Heart of the Kinscourge when you can craft a hardened steel great sword for 22 hardened steel that does more damage?

I see you still havenā€™t tried the update before deciding you hate it, again. Bosses also had their hp cut in half.

I did all my testing for the weapon changes on the arena champ because she was easy enough to take out with some weapons in only a couple combos. I was even able to take her down solo with a sword of crom.

Really  Have they dropped the HP of other animals? They just seem to be soft right now.

Iā€™ve spent a few hours on the PBC and so far Iā€™m only bothered by two things:

  1. The light that surrounds the character at night is too bright. I no longer need a torch.

  2. The permanent loss of durability of weapons. So in principle I even think itā€™s a good thing that weapons donā€™t last forever anymore. However, this 10% factor when repairing seems too arbitrary to me. Maybe you should think about a different mechanism when weapons (why only weapons and no armor?) are permanently damaged. Perhaps the weapon will take permanent damage whenever its durability drops to 0%. This would reward players who take good care of their equipment and keep an eye on it.

Bosses do not need to have high hp. Its not the hp that is killing the players thralls its the damage they are dealing.

As stupid as the AI of NpcĀ“s is my thralls are more stupid.

And that the devs doesnĀ“t even see the problem if they buff npc damage and lower thralls health at the same time says it all.

I not gonna go to testlive to witness this desaster of an update. I donĀ“t torture myself. Its enough that it gets brute forced on us with the next update.
