Do tell?
What would be the cause of this “breaking point” that would force me in to something I have chosen not to participate in?
Having treasures but not a specifically built vault?

This was likely attached to the fact that the storm would destroy your builds, making at least a third of the island uninhabitable. They removed that mechanic because it was a massive waste of the space that people could use to build how they saw fit. It served little purpose outside of the lore. Deciding to implement it again would be counterproductive. Think about what the meteors do to your builds when too close to their drop points. Now think of that on a larger scale. You’d constantly be logging in to half your building gone.
Thst sounds amazing, if i build on starfall ridge i expect i might loose my base.
If i build in a storm of eldritch horrors i want them to destroy my base.
Survi
Survival games are about the challenge and the loss, its ment to suck thats the point.
And by that point, no one would build there… knowing full well it destroys their buildings. Hence why it’s a massive waste of space. no one would voluntarily build anything in the HUGE middle chunk of the island. I’m not sure you’re understanding that detail. starfall ridge destroys small parts of the base. The storm wiped out the majority (or at least a lot more than the meteors) as I understand.
I think you should get a limited time you can opt out of purges… for long vacations and stuff like that… but it should not be a permanent opt out. Purges (and sieges) should be threats to everyone, regardless of activity. SOO many people on so many servers go months, if not years, where they ONLY log in to refresh timers. It’s wasting a lot of space for people who are active and more engaged in their game play.
I remember the storm before it was neutered in siptahs early access.
It was amazing and challenging and siptah is full of other build locations. It could have easily been fixed by making it so a god bubble offered protection but instead we lost nearly all of an amazing and uniquely challenging mechanic that made the map feel unique and special and not just another exiled lands.
Players also don’t like loosing fights and dying should we just disable that too?
Apples to oranges, my guy… one is a challenge that requires the player to opt in and fight of their own accord, the other is just a silly mechanic set by the developers to make a large swath of land useless. Dennis even stated that while he thought it was a cool idea, he wasn’t considering what the players thought. They all hated it and it was subsequently pulled. I remember quite a few streamers commenting that it felt like the storm ate up too much real estate and it felt like a waste of space for a no-build zone.
I always though we should have extremely hard zones on the map.
Fast decay, very powerful enemies, purges with siege weapons, etc.
When the player has some experience, there’s no danger in the EL. There’s only danger if you want it.
So, you have a lot of time to prepare., which means there will be no danger again once you do.
The map can’t be expanded. I would make one zone of the map really hardcore. Better rewards, but much more dangerous. You wouldn’t even think about building there before being in end game gear, having the best thralls geared up and being able of t3 building.
Enemy drops would be much better, but you would pay for that in blood. Decay timers would be much less forgiving. You couldn’t stay there if you went on vaccations. Sorry. You had to move to a safer place.
This would allow players who peaked in the game to have something to look forward.
My hopes is that FUNCOM’s solution might be even better". Get a large enough treasure and that scenario can happen anywhere on the map.
It would also please me a lot if we were able to trigger those catastrophic purges in the “noob river” areas. I love to build there because of the weather. I don’t do it because you either have no purges or, in the zones that already have them, they are too weak. This would solve it. I could have a sunny base with great purges. A dream came true.
Most people still consider it a no build zone because of demons, its still an opt in for challenge and siege beasts are still a usable setting on private servers, so we get a neutered half version instead. Once again it is technically an opt in challenge, now that surges are basically worthless you never even have to cross the center of the map if you don’t want to so its not apples to oranges.
Surges aren’t worthless… but anyway…. now the storm doesn’t destroy your builds, and you’re safe unless you leave your base. It’s better because you can use it as a base of operations for farming the storm creatures, or placing a wheel for the surge. I find it a much better alternative. Like an oasis in a desert. But… to each their own… no need to impose your “make it punishing!” feelings on everyone else. Most actually prefer it this way. I think you may be better off on a private or modded server where you can pump up the difficulty and impose challenges. Official may not be right for you.
ANYWAY… I think we’re a bit off topic here. It was suppose to be about the new purge system. I’m gonna refrain from responding to this storm idea you got.
I never said a play official, i havent in years because of exploits, I play on serveral other peoples private servers as well as run private servers both modded and unmodded what im asking for is the option for it not that its a requirement. Oh and yes on the servers I run the setings are between 3-5x npc damage given and .5 percent taken to increase difficulty.
But your right this is about the purge remaster and Dennis clarifed and important point that it will have a breakpoint which im all for as the risk of random attacks after a certain point will help control the exponential growth problems of larger tribes. Plus if it focuses on a treasure room then it means they wont be able to stack their odds with teir one spam meaning I’ll be able to loosen rules on satellite bases making everyone happier. It keeps the risk for power of the original purges while allowing the little guy to opt out by not building a large coffer. I would like to say to any dev that may read this I’m very much a fan of this new nothings permanent mentality as not only will it be a great change to gameplay but seems to be much more grounded in a understanding of the chaos and change that typified Howard’s Hyboreon age.
The same can be said about players who want no purge and an easier experience. They’d be better off in singleplayer or private servers. I think that official servers should have a more raw experience of the Conan Exiles universe and showcase all its features in their full glory like brutal purges and a maelstrom that wrecks buildings.
Players have always asked Funcom to change the core game to appease their fantasy of a perfect world, and unfortunately turned the game into a “reset your decay timer once a week” type of experience.
Maybe we just need official servers with different settings.
As far as private servers, for me they don’t exist. I’ve played on several of them, most disappeared after a month. On one server, after 3 days, the admin spawned berserkers on my base because I didn’t donate 10 euro, and on another my base got deleted and was called a bug, while everyone else had their bases intact. There’s too much Admin abuse on privates to make them a viable option to play this game.
So if you don’t like the game as it is, nor do you like the game on private servers, then why play the game at all? Btw, it’s a rhetorical question. I don’t need an explanation. The game is what it is and you’re clearly in the minority. I’m not gonna humor your ranting of how you believe it should be. Funcom made a decision and it’s worked. They already stated why they’re not doing many of your preferred settings, so it’s not even worth arguing. All you’re doing is arguing for the sake of arguing at this moment.
I wasn’t ranting. It was my personal opinion.
When I started playing the game more than 4 years ago, game was really appealing. I got invested into this game, and I won’t turn my back to it because I still find it interesting. I may not agree with some things the devs have done, but I hope new age of war will do the purge justice.
Yet you argue that those who don’t want the purge in the first place shouldn’t be allowed to have that mechanic? Having a punishing purge would take plenty of those players off the game. Who do you think buys all the dlc? Mostly the PvE players that focus more on the “fantasy” that you don’t like. The money for the game comes from a bulk of those players. Without them, there would be no game. Should they not have a say in how they interact with the game? Many of them may enjoy the purge, however few of them actually want it as punishing as you’re suggesting. Massive base wiping purges often drive players away more than it keeps them coming back. I’ve seen plenty of players leave after being wiped by their first difficult purge. I’ve been wiped by Funcom and STILL stuck around. Few are like me. However, not even I want a mechanic that’s intention is to frustrate me to no end.
I never said that. If there are players who don’t like the purge, there is single player or private servers where the purge option can be disabled. It wasn’t even an argument. That’s just how the game is right now. You’re free to check the official server settings to see for yourself.
I don;t agree with your statement at all.
I support the developers and I did spend some money like everyone else. As far as I’m concerned the devs can do whatever they want with their game. Just like any regular on these forums I have my expectations and I send my feedback, and that is it.
If the game wouldn’t make any revenue, Funcom would probably take the project in a different direction and Conan Exiles would still exist one way or another.
I started playing this game because of the idea that we can have massive battles with the purge system. I stayed for the lore Funcom has built around Exiled Lands. For me the purge is the best PvE experience the game has to offer.
Not an option. Tethering to the player sucks on single/co-op, plus only one player can host. Also, private servers aren’t reliable and as you said, admin can be abusive. PvE players think about that the same way.
Hold on folks, you may not be able to opt out of the regular purges.
Why? Is something different? I was under the impression that coffers were the new mechanic.
I’m very excited for this Purge update, just gathering treasure is much easier for me (as a solo player) than literally keeping myself logged in for hours each day; even while doing chores and cleaning.
I managed to get the Purge last night and last week on Sunday as well. It is no easy task as a solo player to get the Purge once a week (I literally get home from work, sign in, and try to be on until I go to bed). I really just can’t wait for it to be a bit easier and more in my control.
Does anyone know if the Purges will just be Stygian and Relic Hunters, or will the same Purges that currently exist still happen in those designated areas? I personally love the Frost Giant purge since they updated it with all the Aesir!
