See this is another example where I keep saying the problem isn’t with horses. The problem is largely with people unwilling to change tactics and how they play the game. It should be easy to gank farmers!!! Especially people farming and running around with 50 pts in encumbrance!!! Seriously think about it. You actually expect that you should be running around with tons of mats on you and NOT be a prime target to be run down with a horse???
The whole idea you can carry a virtual mountain of stone in your back pocket is ludicrous anyways. Talk about a balance issue. So now farmers have to worry about getting run down by someone on a horse, instead of being able to run away from someone on foot. Now it is more balanced. Farmers actually have to think about what they are doing now and constantly watch their backs more so than ever. I would argue the farmer/horse situation is far more balanced now than ever.
And you have the tools to deal with it. Funcom has given farmers things they need to counter much of this. You have bearer thralls and caravan pets that will hold tons of mats. And you can stay in a mixed fighting and farming spec, and have a horse of your own to use as well. I never go full farming spec since horses came out and use bearers whenever possible.
Spears have historical precedent from horseback. They were often used one-handed. The poking/stabbing motion is easily controllable with one hand from an elevated position. Greatswords and two-handed axes, on the other hand, have a lot of momentum when swung. They could be used one-handed from horseback (and in reality, even while on foot), but recovering from the strike would be a lot more cumbersome and leave you open for a counterattack.
So from this perspective, spears make the most sense out of our two-handed weapons to be available on horseback, and I’m happy Funcom did it.
It always was. Farmers are squishy (most have only 30 VIT) and slow (you can’t spend as many points in GRIT as PvP players). Until they changed the dodge roll so you can’t catch running people anymore. But that’s a different topic. You can only hope to outrun them with more stamina.
Now with horses, you are 100% dead if you get detected by one. Charge into oneshot. Or charge into stun into thrall finishing you off.
This is unacceptable for me regarding game balance.
Yes it is. 50 ENC perk is kinda OP as well. But changing this perk would make all PvE and PvP players unhappy.
This is situational. Also your bearer can be killed any time as long as he is in “Scouting” mode after the horse guy kills you.
If you use a horse, you might escape. But if you get ganked when you are on the ground, they will dismount you by the time you got on the horse and start running. I’d rather just spam the landscape with foundations or palisades to stop horses to charge at me.
But the best way to avoid this horse nonsense is to farm at night.
