Really? Same mods and order to play on my dedicated server?

I’m so angry … I’m so angry … … I am so aggressive right now. It’s … I don’t know if I can stop myself from getting tourettes.

Seriously. … … ragecalm down … …
… wtf … … is wrong with you?

See …

… a modded server.

Clients …

… they need … … they, they need … the same mods … in … … the same order, lol … are you … … are you … f*cking serious … ?

calm down … …

… so … … I’m renting a server now, that no one will ever play on, because … hahahahahahahaha … … I have installed a few mods on … and … in order to play on my server, … you see … … you have to install and activate the same mods in the same order … … to play with me ^^ … HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA … … really ^^? OMG. OMFG XD … … brilliant ^^ … … this is the best

So, you basically are killing off 3rd party servers :).

GENIUS!!!

… and the best part is:
I can’t see the mod ID in the game. So … it’s like hell to find out the order of the mods so I can’t even join my own server XD … … rofl.

Even Urban Terror a game that’s like 10 to 20 years old has a auto download feature for maps XD … … what a joke  … WHAT A JOKE!! XD … … omg. … omfg … … … what a joke. … what a r*tarded joke.

It seems you dont know anything about mods. Of course the game need to load mods in a specific order. The game load first mods on the top on the list and then the others below. What happens when the game loads the mods in a different order? You dont have the same version of the game, because the mods loaded at last will overwrite the data of the first ones if they use similar asset/datatable. In order for all the users of the server to have the same files, the mods must be loaded in the same order.

I’m a software developer -.- … …

How about they load the mods after I connect to a server? Get the mod list, download the missing mods, load them in the right order, join the game.

MAGIC!

HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Really complicated stuff man xD … …

It’s no more then 40 to 80 man hours. QA included. That’s why I think it’s on purpose … that’s why I hate them and will not buy another game from them.

But then … you have to reaload the game if you activate mods, right? So they are really good at progrmming … … true geniuses at work eye roll

I completely understand your frustrations and I know that using mods in your game isn’t in the best condition right now, but I have some good news as well: change is coming! We’re working on a feature to automatically download mods when you connect to a modded server. It’s currently undergoing testing, but we’ll roll it out once it’s ready to go

NIce to hear.

Also @sickcahos please tell me what game allows you to install mods WHILE THE GAME IS RUNNING. Anything else is not valid, as installing mods before hand and than starting the game is the same thing just that they’re active by default. Game still needs to load the code from the mods.

You raised an important topic.
If work is being done on this issue, it is very good.

I think it is worth raising another question. What about the fact that the game is updated forcibly, even if the server is not updated? Why players can not stay on the previous version of the client?
This is a very big problem. Mods can not instantly adapt for updates. Thus, players do not have the opportunity to continue playing on the previous version until the mods are updated.
Can something be done with this?

I play on official servers, but this problem is very important even for me. This greatly limits.

You can, if you manually take a copy of the game install and place it somewhere else (outside the Steam folder preferably). Steam is unfortunately super ■■■■ about auto-updates, and doesn’t allow you to “lock” an install.

FYI - I recommend that you use the Official Wiki
(working on improving visibility currently…)

The topic is important to the entire modding community, however what has been said here is already known and is available under Modding, which is also accesible from the main page.

Unfortunately we can’t turn off the auto-update as that’s something handled by Steam/Microsoft/Sony (depending on your platform).

However, we will always update the official servers when we update the game client We’re also working on having a new version of the dev kit available as quickly as we can after a game update, so modders can update their mod and have people playing again.

ARK actually downloads the mods directly from an unofficial server in the right order automatically during server connection, and doesn’t require a restart.

I stand corrected lol. I don’t mind, and your answer is perfectly valid. :stuck_out_tongue: Just wanted to avoid an answer like Skyrim or basically any other game that allows mods. Since most of the time the game is not running when mods are installed allowing the game to load the mods when the game starts. I am curious tho, does it still allow you as an individual to install mods while running… So not the automatic download n install from server. Been a while since I last played ARK.

Side note being for ARK at least would probably go quicker to just restart instead of wainting on that install period which for me at least tend to timeout my connection.

The impressive thing is, the mod loader on ARK is so flexible, you can play on official servers, then swap to unofficial servers with custom mod loadout, then play singleplayer with yet another mod loadout, all in the same sitting, without having restarted the client or manually re-order the mods.

And you are actually right in that for some people (especially those without an SSD) they take so long to download mods that they time-out. But it’s still a step up from any mod support i’ve seen so far, wether Bethesda or Blizzard.

Though… to Funcoms credit, chat bots in Anarchy Online is one of the coolest things I have ever experienced.

It was like Alexa, but wayyyy ahead of it’s time.

I’m writing a WPF app for keeping track of decay timers on CE official servers. I wonder if there is a “purge event” hook that I can interface into my app, to trigger a windows 10 notification and have the app interface with the chat client of the server. That’d be so sick.

ANYWAY! Sorry for the tangent.

Never thought about the fact you can jump between things in ARK… Makes me wonder tho… Haven’t looked at the Devkit, but could simply be that the modding capabilities in ARK do not allow for mods that needs to be run on startup. Thinking deeper on it tho, isn’t the mod functionality in ARK also split between “smaller mods” and total conversions cause I think that might be the main reason. Cause if I remember correctly anything labeled a total conversion requires a restart… Could be wrong, never played with Primal + I think their “official” overhaul is called…

Also that would be amazing. o.o Thinking about it haven’t seen a purge myself since I started playing but I’d assume a purge notification is sent to the event log as well, which in turn could probably be hooked into to find that specific event message. At least I don’t see the impossibility in it.

How can your suggestion help? Launch via Steam anyway. I understand that the problem is more in the steam, and not in the developers.
But after all, developers can make authorization possible not through Steam? Then the question is solved. You want to connect to the official server - you are on the road to Steam. Do you want to play on the old unofficial client? -Please log in directly through the funk site. In general, with the latest updates, Steam is causing more disgust. Especially after breaking the my world in space engineers. For which it was spent about six months. Thanks to the forced update. :grinning:

Oh I didnt hear about that one. That is good news! :astonished: Good job
(Though I will probably never use it as I dont like to play on private servers, uhm…)

Erik … … … did you remove the “stfu” @ Alex02 or was it me? I can’t remember … I hope it was me. I was drunk … and I really can’t remember, but … I guess I would remember removing it. It’s important. I really wanted to make him feel uncomfortable. So … I probably didn’t remove it … but I can’t tell for sure. I was drunk ^^ … So, here … enjoy the benefit of the doubt o_O … … …

However. Thanks for fixing this in the future. Seriously it’s a pain. Good to know you are working on it. It’s a relief. Thank you.

I marked the answer.

Thaks for putting up with me  … bye.

EDIT: Funny! I found the edited by Eric message in my notifications. So it was you! … thanks man for altering my post and myking me say something I didn’t  … WTF XD … … I’m outa here XD … … …

Man, you really know how to make people want to help you. That was sarcasm.

For the record, you don’t have to launch via Steam. Running the executable directly, like we did in the 90s, still works. For this game, anyway.

This is strange. Because an attempt to launch an executable file from a client folder results in an error. In general, it should not run. Are you running a console?
