But playing devil’s advocate, that is technically name calling and as such against the guide lines. As such, were it to be flagged, the responsible party is the post author. You’re not really speaking to an unknown group of people, that is directed at someone specific who did something you didn’t agree with(flagging). Doesn’t really matter if you know who they are or not.
Okay, here’s something I never understood about your replies to me. You quote part of my text and then ask me a question about something I never said. For example, I said “most people don’t think it’s a problem worth raising a big fuss about”. How does “most people are on one side of the fence” imply that “there are no people on the other side of the fence”? And if it doesn’t imply that, then what’s the point of quoting me and asking me about it?
I respect your right to have that point of view. It’s a common mistake to assume that every opinion has to be respected, rather than everyone should have a right to their point of view.
To give you a concrete example, I have the right to believe that LotR movies were awful, but @JJDancer is not obliged in any way to respect that opinion
I’m betting @Tuffman is trying to point out that your point of view would have been just as valid if you had expressed it without calling people morons.
So i know i haven’t said to much in my own post as of late.
But I’ll admit that’s because some of you really do have way more knowledge in this area from what I’ve seen recently that it’s been best to let those guys take the reins and do the explaining instead of myself.
cheers to the guys taking the time to in-depth explain the flag system to everyone.
English is 2nd Language, thats just how it types out. XD
As Mod of 15+ years thou… Again, much like Server Rule Sets… “grey area”
There using harsh words, or wishing harm, And then there calling people “safe” words like Morons.
to express a dislike. Or I’m I suppose to google 15+ letter words for moron/stupid, to make it sound more sufsticated? (HA HA, I tried use a big word! and spell check has no idea what I’m trying to spell!)
XD
Anyway…
There express personal opinion. And there Using violence and Over-Harsh Words.
I can say I dislike them? But just sounds really vauge. And doesn’t display how I feel.
There expersing how I feel… but I know better then to use those words, so i tone it down to Cartoon TV standards.
PlayerX is who flagged my post. The target of the insult/name calling is easily inferred to be PlayerX. It may only be PlayerX and the mod staff who know the identity of the flagger but they were still personally insulted.
In the end, none of it is necessary. There’s no difference in the message delivered by “People are abusing the flag system and it should be addressed,” and “Morons are flagging my posts for no reason, fix it.” One however is far more inflammatory and needlessly insulting.
Flagged posts are not automatically deleted. Mods will judge it and can unflag. And showing who flagged it seems a bit lynch mob mentality. I would rather it state why it was flagged at minimum.
I shoul know about flag abuse, I got a 1 month ban for too many of my own posts getting a flag. I should want it gone. it serves its purpose though. mods get a notice to check the thread…
I also learned to be careful who you call out on these forums for being bullish and dumping on others opinions. I just stopped flagging others myself, and just click ignore on the user if they seem counter social or grumpy entitled posters who derail topics in the direction they want.
Because if it were a big enough problem for most people, then we would have many more topics about it. Instead, it pops up from time to time, persistently but not overwhelmingly so.
No, I don’t. I don’t really need them, since I’m not the one claiming that this is a problem that requires a solution. The onus is on those who claim it’s a problem.
And I did.
Uh, no. I’m not going to respect every opinion. If you tell me the Earth is flat, I’m going to respect your right to express that opinion and then I’m going to explain exactly why you’re wrong and why that opinion is not worthy of respect.
Totally right man, for me after a decade in the infantry i learned to butt heads and hell even physically fight each other and still be chill with each other a few days later.
One thing I’ve had to accept with being online is my sever ptsd and it really messing with me mood wise, I’ll sometimes say something in a way that even I’m ashamed of myself for after, I try must best to keep that in check.
(Sucks cuz before i was known as that dude that never ever got mad before all that)
Nothing feels worse then losing your cool and saying something then thinking “why the F did i have to say that”
I agree with the message you’re trying to get across, but I’ve got a real problem with this phrase: “your truth”. I absolutely hate that phrase because it’s being used to justify all kinds of idiocy these days. There is no “your truth”, “my truth”, or “their truth”. There is just the truth. When you divvy up the truth like it’s something unique to each person, it loses meaning and ends up being used to disguise lies and falsehoods.
People can have differing opinions that are each true, but the truth is an ideal that is a step above all of them and they should all be aiming for it.
Also, what’s with all this flat Earth nonsense? Everyone knows that the Earth is doughnut shaped. SCIENCE! said so.
until scientifically we ask 2 of what + 2 of what?
2 groups of 5 oranges + 2 groups of 4 apples is not equal to 4 groups of either one, but is 10 oranges and 8 apples.
Truth is only fact until the next variable is found that changes the truth.
