Remove the speed bonus for running/sprinting from the 15 Grit perk

The impact will be better for the game:

  • PvE will be harder as players can not run away so easily anymore
  • It will be easier to hit other players with slow animation weapons
  • Better attribute build variety. Right now everyone is forced to put 15 points into Grit for PvP, no matter what.
  • Cripple effects will be less severe

I think removing the speed bonus will be for the better of the game.

Don’t you DARE.

I hope they ban your account for even suggesting it. I’m PVE only, and if they mess with that attribute I will uninstall.

yeah it’s good I wish they remove it

That would be a great change combat-wise, potentially changing this stupid running attacks meta

First, many PvP players complained that the speed bonus was in the Agility attribute, as that forced “everybody” to take Agility.

Then, Funcom moves it to the Grit, and… PvP players complain because it’s there at all. sigh

Having PvP in a game just leads to a circle of complaints. It’s like with chess: After each lost match, players write to the publisher Chess Inc. and demand a nerf to rooks and buffs to queens.

No, wait, they don’t, because chess is played with a sense of sportsmanship, which includes accepting that in a 1 vs. 1 match, there cannot be two winners.

One day, the same will be true for PvP video games.

I hope.

For 20 years now.

Move it back to agility. Whoever influenced the dev to make this change should manifest itself here (I know who you are ) and explain the logic of why putting it in grit was better for the game.

Funcom changing this game in an attempt to please PVP players is the singular worst decision they could possibly make.

It is categorically impossible to have PVP/PVE merged, and properly balance each. If they want to make changes to make PVP people happy, I’m all for it. … but NONE of those changes should affect ANYTHING PVE at all.

This makes me chuckle slightly - not to suggest you are wrong (in fact, I’ve said many times that one of the biggest problems this game faces is the impossibility of balancing the needs of PVP and PVE at the same time), but simply because of the huge list of changes that have been made over the years in attempts to please PVP players. It is far from the singular worst decision Funcom could make, it is a decision they have made so many times it could pretty much be viewed as a defining feature of this game’s development process.

Unfortunately, the idea to split the game into two branches and only make changes for PVP on the PVP branch is a near impossibility. It would require twice as many devs working on the game, or split the existing team in two and take twice as long to do everything (including bug fixes…). This is why Legacy is not really receiving any attention since the move to Enhanced - only one ‘branch’ is worked on at a time.

The best that could realistically be hoped for is for as many as possible of the ‘conflict’ areas to be available as server settings - that way PVP and PVE could differ in server settings while running the same core game. Unfortunately, that really couldn’t work for elements such as the change being called for/opposed in this thread, because something as core as the stats and perks couldn’t really be altered as server settings.

As for my opinion of this particular suggested change, I think it’s fairly ridiculous (largely for the reasons already covered by @Khaletohep) - I also think it’s very unlikely to happen. A perk to increase speed has been around a long time; it only became a subject of complaint when Agility was buffed to become a viable combat stat, at which point the complaint was that everyone in PVP had to have at least 15 in Agility even if they were in a Strength build. So Inflexion listened to this frequent complaint and switched the perk over to Grit when they released Enhanced. What the OP is forgetting is that PVP always has meta builds, this situation is just another example - the difference is that now the ‘meta build’ is not centred on one of the two combat stats, which brings the two of them back closer to a level. (It may not completely solve it so that Strength and Agility are perfectly equal, but at least it doesn’t set one so far above the other as to make that other basically irrelevant.)

The vast majority of the players in this game, play it for the chill PVE experience. They got taught that lesson recently with Dune.

If they “balance” for PVP players at the cost of PVE, they will regret it.

Just make grit 15 to lower stamina costs AND agility 15 to the speed boost .

PVP players always have, and will always continue, to complain about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING someone else is using to kill them… and they will scream non-stop until the devs do what they ask. Then, after the devs do that… they will pick the next thing to scream about. It never ends.

That’s how it’s always been, and how it always will be. “Balance” will NEVER be achieved, because it is purely subjective. On a long enough timeline, it always comes full circle with the exact same pvp players that advocated for the nerf, screaming about that same thing needing a buff. I’ve watched it happen for 30 years of PVP gaming, and I’m so beyond tired of it.

I’m telling you plainly, if they remove my sprint/stamina bonus attribute which I rely on for PVE due to the Beast of Burden attribute which makes it impossible to use a mount… I will uninstall and move to single player games like crimson desert or something. If they mess with the stamina and sprint speed AND ALSO give me the ability to use a mount in conjunction with beast of burden, then MAYBE I’ll stick around. MAYBE… if it works well.

… but right now with beast of burden I’m over-encumbered all the time, and have to sprint to everywhere I want to go, and I will not tolerate not being able to use a mount AND losing sprint speed/stamina.

Then all players would put in both, and have to decide between STR or VIt. I think it is good where it is at. On our server we are seeing 2 metas, agility daggers and str Hammer. Now we need to find a build for the other weapons.b And enc is now a glass cannon pack mule or DMG spunge mule. Befor one could run Agility enc. Meaning bomber, scooper and agility fighter.

Actually the great fight was that they created a 20s20a20v game. All PvP nation was using ONLY this build in the beginning. Or at least this was what the PvP community of this forum was claiming.

I do understand where this complaint comes from, @FCCantProgram is not incorrect completely, neither the PvP players that support the Idea. Other than that Dennis him self told the same thing in a live stream ( back when Andy was still with us ) , that he regrets making the character so fast.

My personal opinion is that i don’t want this perk to be gone and i do enjoy wearing the Siptah armor set that’s making me even faster on climbing and swimming . I love the speed of my character even if it’s surreal and i know it . From all the changes age of sorcery brought, i enjoyed this one more than anything.

But !

We met, learn, loved the game without this speed .

The game is still easy without quick footed on pve matters , very easy actually, it will just loose awesomeness and that’s greater than everything if you ask me .

Fear for Bow PvP meta after this change, because it’s this speed that balances a bit the fight against archery. If PvP looses this speed many things will have to be nerfed also for balance, it’s not that simple.

My suggestion!

Ask from inflexion to fix a beta for hardcore PvP players and let them test these suggestions. PvP needs direct communication and constant. These players are very charismatic testers and they can discover glitches and bugs faster than anybody else. Yes they have their “toxicity” but the “yes master you’re perfect” didn’t help a lot the progress of the game so far.

Regardless if i am going to be sad if quick footed will be lost, if it’s going to really help for the best i will be ok with it .

No please.

  1. Pve content is too easy. idk why pve players are talking about combat balance. All NPCs in game are slow and predictable. (most of pve players plays with thralls in any way)
  2. .. suggestion is correct

PvP really should have a separate balance, man

Because the constant fiddling with the game draws resources away from fixing bugs and creating new content, can break mods and is just plain annoying if you don’t care about PvP.
And that is usually caused by a PvP player finding an exploit or loosing and fight and complaining about it in the forum.

Imagine it the other way around, if you will: Let us say PvE players constantly measured the DPS of weapons and their usefulness against certain enemy types, and Funcom changed the damage values and movement sets of weapons every month to make them “balanced” in PvE.
Every once in a while, some system or weapon would get completely nuked because a PvE player found an exploit or some Dev found his boss was not difficult enough.
Would that be enjoyable for PvP players?

“Balance” in a human vs. human game is only possible if all players use the same set of playthings, as it is in chess or tennis: You cannot pick to have more rooks than knights in chess, and everybody gets only one racket in tennis.
In a complex system like a RPG, where every player uses different stuff, there’ll always be something to complain about.
That we all have to suffer through changes because of an exploit-prone part of the player base doesn’t help. And that, too, is part of PvP: Where there’s competition, humans try to outsmart each other, including breaking assumed rules. And in this context, that means that there’ll always be somebody looking for exploits, design flaws or other stupid stuff.

Don’t get me wrong: PvP is part of the game, I enjoyed a little whack-a-human in other games for many years, and I don’t advocate abandoning PvP or fixing stuff for PvP purposes. But the constant bickering can be a bit annoying, especially if a PvP player complains about a change made just to cater to a popular demand by the PvP community. Fellow players, Funcom/Inflexion answered to what was demanded, and they did it in a good way. Now complaining about the issue again is a bit… demanding.

PvP is also easy as long as you’re good at it.

Whinners seldom are. Good fighters will keep being good fighters and eat bad fighters alive because all players share the same advantages and limitations.

The loser tends to think that they lost because the game has a problem, forgetting themselves that the winner also shares it. Change the combat system and the fights will go in the exact same manner because some players are just better at it.

No one in this thread complained that they got killed by the enemy having too much speed…

I agree with you, but the “fun and variety” factors also play a huge role. We used to clash with basically every weapon couple years ago, mace was viable enough, 2h Sword was viable, 1h Axe, spear. Now we have sprint attack spamming hammers and chakrams. I realize that you can get kills with any weapon, but nothing is as close as hammer killing enemy with 2 shots or chakrams that barely miss. It’s the matter of variety, we have been having the same meta for 2+ years now.
