With the impending addition of server transfers coming to Conan I think we as a unified community should put our thoughts and opinions in a single post that funcom can scroll through and gauge our feelings about it. And maybe draw some ideas about the direction they want to go the feature.
We should put what limitations and problem points we think that server transfers will have/cause. All I ask is that we as a devoted community keep it polite, classy, and free of degrading one another. We are all here for the same reason, we all love the game because we continue to spend our free time in it.
I’ll start it off.
Personally I think that we should be limited to two map clusters. One map the exiled lands, the other being the isle of siptah. I think this will strike a happy tune seeing as how one can’t just disappear and become nigh upon impossible to track in the sea of officials.
I also think that standalone servers that do not allow transfer should also exist on the official network.
@AndyB sorry mate tagging you so you can keep a weather eye on this forum.
I totally agree with you Twitchy. I had similar thoughts about server cluster idea and some concerns in this topic:
That’s a good idea. No DayZ syndrome.
It also means you don’t have to fear running into some clan of guys going around from server to server steamrolling whatever they find just because they can.
Beyond that, I don’t really know. It’s something I’ve been interested in since Siptah, but I think we’ll need to actually experience server transfers before we can dig deep into all the things that could go wrong- or go right, even.
That being said, it’s probably less applicable in the world of modded CE because every community is its own cluster already, due to mods and such. I’m sure the mod community is only going to reap the benefits.
I really wish this to remain civil and constructive. Once i’m gone from work i’ll post my Vision upon it aswell.
But please Restrain yourselves from fairytales with tens of thousands of items that you or your Clan can instantly craft or carry from server to server.
Let’s remain realistisc.
Yes. I’m sure people are worried about “locust swarm” clans (as we used to call them in another game long time ago) - but since you can’t really bring a base with you from server to server, these clans can’t bring an infinite amount of bombs or thralls or whatever to ruin the day of established clans.
At the very least, even if a clan decides to pick up their workstations and crafter thralls and jumps to a new server, they’ll be vulnerable until they can build walls and train thralls to protect their newly-founded base.
I can see where this can be abused on pvp/pve-c and I understand your concerns on that so I think that restrictions there are needed.
As a pve player I really do wish I could bring my items from the two dead servers that I have characters on to the very active server that I do play on that has a great community for the most part, we still have a guy that has hogged large portions of the map and only comes in to refresh them. I do not have as much time now as I used to for farming for items, items that I do have on another server and would love to be able to use again. Since I already have it I would just love to be able to consolidate the stuff all on one server, do not care either way about the character being transferred I just want the stuff that I earned. It would be nice to not have to log into two servers that I do not play on just to refresh my small base twice a week, even though one of the servers I will hate losing that base but the server is dead and thus no fun without a community.
I agree! I’ve been server hopping to find a good server to play on. I finally found one but my best items are on the now dead Siptah server I spent so much time on. I would really like to move my things off the dead server and onto the populated one I’ve made friends on. It’s boring on dead servers, I hope they also remove some dead ones after they introduce transfer.
For pvp, I believe they were considering a cool down of 7 days. But honestly couldn’t 10 or more players just bring an inventory full of supplies over? I think with 10 plus players inventories it could be bad, you could potentially also have a ton of alts just to transfer the items. Doesn’t take long to build a base if you’ve already scouted the area and know where/how to build… You could really do some damage, just sounds like a bad idea for pvp… Just a new to pvp player perspective.
its alright with me if character transfers with recipies learned, combat levels & feat points
But Items? Not a chance. u can litterally farm on dead servers as a clan u can even split ur clan of lets say 8 people onto 3 servers to make the servers still appear low & then target a BIG server which is not a very good idea
People gonna Body vault alot which is again not a good add to the game - This could perhaps be allowed on PVE servers - But not on PVP servers.
I agree that for pvp the item transfers are bad but for the pve servers it should not be a problem, this game is about way more than pvp so please look at what will make other types of players happy. If the servers were actually treated differently they could each have certain things like pve could have item transfers while pvp only has character and equipped items transfer on a long timer, like once a month.
It comes to down a matter of time for some of us, some of us do not have as much time to farm as we used to so why should we be forced to choose to play on an active server with a great community or on a dead server where our farmed items are? . We should have the ability to have our items where we enjoy playing.
About items transfers, what if you were not able to transfer while being over-encumbered (or at a certain % of over-encumbrance) ?
You may respec you attributes before hopping but it would be a good way of limiting items/thralls/stuff transfer.
Edit: Was not talking about pvp servs but in general case even in pve servs I think such limitations would be good too.
Imo pvp should be naked transfer & reset attribtes i think enough resson has already been stated in my previous comment, maybe one equiped armor set could be allowed
