Server transfers revisited

They need to fix the current system to make this suggestion work. The problem was copying the character was getting corrupted or lost.

This community isn’t very good with personal responsibility. And those likely willing to take the risk are already able to transfer characters in non-official ways.

Personally I’m very surprised that Funcom hasn’t taken a monetary approach to Server Transfers.

Talk about a great way to make $$$.

Fix the damn thing and then charge people to transfer.

Ew… no. They’ll likely charge for every transfer. I’d rather not go down that path when they allowed it for free before.

Yeah, they could do a “Dragon’s Dogma 2” on us! @jmk1999 .
I was so going to buy that game until I found out their ultra greedy monetization practices. Funcom is an amateur when compared to what those guys pulled off!
I want the game, but I don’t want to incentivize that shit. I’m so conflicted… :pensive:
15 years waiting for it and Capcom does this crap. What’s next? Pay to save your game?

Don’t believe the hype on that one. The monetization isn’t as bad as they’re making it out to be since pretty much all of it can be made in game with a wee bit of patience. It’s all just a bunch of time saver dlc pretty much. Games have been doing that for a while now. Honestly, I think the people are complaining about it just because they can. Now SF6? Yeah, that’s a bad one. DD2? Not so much. Definitely get it, but only get the Standard Edition. It’s really good so far. You literally don’t have to buy ANY of the stuff in DD2 to enjoy the game, unless you just wanna save a bit of time.

That is terrible. It’s paying for convenience.
You know what that does to games? It makes them more and more inconvenient for the player so that they become more profitable. It might be a slippery slope. I have a hard time accepting those practices because of where they may lead the industry.
Paying for extra fast traveling? How ridiculous is that?
Playing for convenience is almost as bad as p2w, maybe with worse consequences in the long run.

I don’t have problems with MTX. What I have problems is with their purpose. Gimme top quality aesthetic stuff and I’ll gladly sink 500 euros per month in a game. Make the game inconvenient, grindier, boring if I don’t pay and you won’t get a cent from me.
That’s why I am conflicted. The game apart from that seems fairly good. I wouldn’t hesitate about buying it.

and the problem was with deleting the character on the original server. Instead I propose a simpler to implement feature. A yaml file of the current character is copied to another server temporarily while the original character isn’t deleted at all. A “Phantom” player would appear differently than a regular player and would eventually expire on the server they were visiting. No loss of data, no character deletion on any server

There’s literally nothing I truly want with the rift crystals. That’s what most of it is. I believe if there’s NG+ there may be, but until then I’m just saving. You get them every time your p@wn (omg! That’s censored on this forum?) is used by another player. That’s not a make-or-break for the stuff. I recommend you try the game. You’re overreacting. You SERIOUSLY don’t need to buy the stuff. Besides, most people aren’t buying the stuff, so I doubt they’re making much on them. Now if they made easy unlocks for the seeker tokens, i might. There’s an outfit I wanna buy with them, but it’s like 150+ tokens.

If its temporary and you can’t advance your original character, I don’t see the point. Good tool for griefing, but not for any sort of long term play. If I want to toy around on another server, I’ll just roll another character, it doesn’t take much for a veteran to get to speed.

Griefing is literally the norm on every high pop pvp server anyways. Big pvp tribes hop servers chasing fights from one server to the next and don’t even stay on these servers long term. So take away fast leveling but give a limited server invasion mechanic for limited pvp. Likewise wanting to do PVE stuff on a different map shouldn’t require a permanent presence either. Full player transfers though just mean Ark style hordes taking over servers. Doesn’t even matter if you put a transfer timer on, people have level 60 characters all over the place. You will have 40 people sitting in a discord channel before raid waiting for the server to get knocked offline and the minute it comes back up a horde transfers in taking all player slots to offline as many bases as possible. Limiting invaders to maybe 10 at a time prevents that while forcing people to spend a month on a server to get to lvl 60 makes them commit to a home server

Last time I saw a PVP 40 man raid (on one side) was in Archeage. And I’m not sure how phantom characters will address this, unless you’re suggesting it instead of doing server transfers at all.

But a 40 man raid locking up a server can easily be done on level 1 characters now. It doesn’t take much to get bombs enough to utterly wreck even alpha clans on a server (they’d have zero ability to defend themselves with all slots filled). It does NOT take a month on a server to get to 60. Not even at 0.1x rates. At 1.0x rates it takes a few hours tops. And it doesn’t take 60 levels to start destroying buildings.

This doesn’t happen because its Conan Exiles. Not a MMORPG. 40 man coordinated raids are a fantasy. Anyone who has that much coordination deserves the win just for the ability to herd that many cats.

I’ve actually seen it (though in more recent times just 20 or so ppl and keep in mind people already have characters on certain servers or get them leveled quick) and it can be much easier to coordinate with server transfers since people can just transfer in with max characters /all engrams/mats.
Mega clans ( by clan I mean multiple clans working together to fight another big group or just wipe a server b/c somebody cried for help trying to get a mob to do the work for them) try to bring as many numbers as possible. Usually no one can get their full crew on once the servers hits max players, so people have to cycle clan mates in/out of sub clans to make room for players who manage to get through the queue. Each side can have upwards of 50 players but not everyone obviously can be on the same server at the same time so they go raid other servers enemies play on while they’re busy fighting on the main target server.
Its a big long confusing mess of people who only want constant fights, mayhem or destruction, and yes I see the cat herding first hand. It’s ridiculous tbh but people get bored without it

I’ve seen this happen with 20 or so people not too long ago at a time and they usually don’t stay low lvl for long b/c they’re organized with someone already setup helping them. Of course there’s already another 10 15 players on the server they’re there for

The only counter is numbers. There’s really no such thing as alpha tribes either, just who has the most numbers at the time to force others to body vault/ice vault/mesh. Even then you can literally pack up your base and hide in unintended places so no one who’s one step ahead is ever really wiped. I will say though its too easy to raid. Raiding a well built base should take a bit of time and effort not 10 min or less with numbers. Whole other balancing topic though

Correct, and I’m saying maybe it should be that way through a daily XP cap. The whole problem with pvp servers is that its too easy to level up, farm up and raid t3 end game bases. If large groups were slowed down while base defenses were buffed etc maybe there would probably be less server hopping and more incentive for people to stay on servers and fight it out. then again its kinda too late for changing the leveling meta unless servers are wiped too (likely wouldn’t happen) Which brings me back to one of the points of a temp player copy. A limited way for people to go pvp on other servers (with some restrictions) casually while staying on their home server. The other point was that its probably easier to implement this since the code should be there at least in part.

You don’t seem to realize what my problem is, @jmk1999 . I don’t mind and I even appreciate having microtransactions available. It’s their purpose that matters.
I don’t want to incentivize paying for convenience. As I said, it’s a slippery slope. In the long run games will become grindier, more boring if you don’t pay.
Cosmetic stuff is fine. I probably own 90% of the bazaar items on this game. I just don’t buy things that I realy don’t like.
However, paying for convenience is a red line for me. I don’t have many when it comes to gaming, but this is one of them. So is p2w. If we don’t put our money where our mouth is, we can’t complain afterwards.
A while back this game was running so poorly that I unistalled it and didn’t buy anything. Then performance improved enough for me to play it again and I started buying stuff again.
This is really simple. You either stick to your convictions or you don’t. Not giving money to companies that implement paying for convenience is one of those convictions. At least not paying full price on release. These things are important signals. The more people do it, the less these practices will be adopted. I might buy the game later on, but I won’t buy it unless it is on sale. Why? Not because of the price, but to send a signal to the company: this type of MTs is a bad idea.
You saying the game is good even makes me more sad because of my decision. Devs probably did a good job, but I won’t compensate their greedy managers.

Perhaps, but my point is, no one’s gonna be buying them except for the most foolish or unsuspecting folks. I haven’t heard of anyone buying them. You only pay for that which you see of value. The game: value. The MTXs: no value. But… you’re welcome to stick to your convictions. I imagine the game will likely be on sale at some point. It’s pretty popular so I assume they’ll have some sorta sale in the coming year to push even more people that were holding out.

That depends. If enough people do as I am doing, you’ll have discounts popping up after the next quarter. It has happened quite a few times. We will see. The most important is sending these greedy turds a message. The last decade was great at proving that slippery slopes are a thing in gaming. You get what you tolerate. Gamers are finally uniting in several fronts, something quite unusual among us.

(Sorry for the off topic guys)
@jmk1999 have you seen Capcom’s announcement? Pressure did work. The upcoming patches will bring exactly what should have been there right from the start. Now, I’ll buy the bloody game!

Just message me on PSN, bro. :unamused:

When FUncom forced us to move servers they corrupted all of our thralls. Ive got priceless captain thralls that I cant let out of the cupboard.
That was 3 years ago, I send them a request for a fix every time there is an update. They tell me to wait.
April 2 I bet there will be no repair done.

The Captain thrall is now attainable via the bar system. Maybe try now.
