Server transfers revisited

I understand there are significant issues with this for long term running based on abuse and the instability of the transfer requiring manual input at times. However can I make a suggestion and have an scheduled event in between ages (so roughly annual basis) and turn them on for a 2 week period to allow character moves if the server dynamics or just wishing to change play styles (pvp to PVE)? This way it’s a planned event that you can schedule with your team resources and still provide the function but since it is only in a certain window of time, it cannot be counted on as an abuse factor as easily as it was when you could do it prior.

The reason they were turned off is because they weren’t reliable. There was way too many tickets needed because someone transferred their character and it didn’t appear on the next server but was gone from the original.

Until that issue is fixed, server transfers are still unavailable. There’s not much concern on FC’s side about intermap imbalance or PVP issues.

Any sort of clarity from a dev about it would just be fantastic. The question is ignored when it comes up in streams. Aware of the issues with them, but I know people that have held down some rather large forts just waiting for a yes or no.

They should be a thing though. Some of the servers are laughably terrible.

Yup… I permanently lost one of my characters. After 6 attempts over a couple months to retrieve it, they gave up. Shortly thereafter, the announcement that they’d be putting transfers on indefinite hiatus came out. It sucks.

I Hope they wont lose time with transfes Because It Will bring many problems again and lose of time from funcom team , people losing characters people losing bases peoples duping characters etc…

I Hope funcom team work Just in add New things , balance combat and make game more comunicative WITH Clan Aliance, bonuses for people playing together, chats etc.

I own Siptah and for me It IS Just a add on make to spare some time the map is SMALL all items you need are in mid of map and the map is empty of players in almost all plataform for me IS just a waste of time If funcom team add things to Siptah SINCE It wont give anymore money income for they and it isnt the MAIN content map.

People shall learn Siptah IS just add on for Conan Theres no lore anything about Conan history and asking things for Siptah Just make funcom team lose time and bring Just little chances for game Just check chapter 4 SINCE they wasted time with Siptah we Will have a SMALL update WITH many problems to solved.

So NO DONT BRING TRANSFER BACK
work Just in New content and balance things please.

I think you’re confused. Adding stuff to siptah had nothing to do with the smaller update for Chapter 4. It was always meant to be an update mostly for bug fixes. You apparently never watched the Chapter 3 stream… or didn’t fully understand what they said.

They did acknowledge in a stream that they are aware players want transfers back. They did not say anything about what they were planning on doing about it, but I think if they were planning on never bringing them back, they would have said that. Additionally, transfers were always intended. Den said that they intentionally made the two maps imbalanced because they wanted players to have to transfer to unlock and collect everything.

I think re-enabling transfers is a side-project that is probably getting little active development due to the current tight release schedule of the Ages.

Possibly, if their new four-chapter plan frees up more dev time for side projects, transfers may finally see the light of day once again. I think it is only a matter of time before they come back, but how long is hard to say.

Their refusal to speak on the subject is likely to indicate one of two things. Either it is close to coming back and they are being tight-lipped about it because they don’t want to spoil it, or they are having a lot of problems with it and don’t want to speak about it because they don’t want to give any false expectations.

Either way, I do believe they would not be so silent on the topic if their intentions were to keep transfers disabled forever.

Yes i Watched but If you check the content from chapter 4 It can be created for EVERY team in like 1 week or less fatalitys ARE copy from others games the New event can be dont in less 10min NOTHING changed to taverns also problems like Thralls AI , yamatai pillow and books from bookcase missing yet still we resolver.

They Just wasted time trying to bring events from EL to siptah a empty map Theres casttles and the New event now.

They shall Merge Siptah map It in the North part of EL so no waste of time in others map no problems to solve in 2 maps and no waste of money holding Siptah servers empty.

Once again, you misunderstood the purpose. They meant to finish a few things in Chapter 4, then fix bugs. If you look at the patch notes, there’s a bunch of bug fixes, including a few longtime ones. So yeah, there’ll be new bugs to fix, but none of that had to do with bringing the content to siptah. As you said yourself, it didn’t take long, therefore it doesn’t take long to implement stuff on Siptah either.

That really sucks.

One of the biggest issues with restoring a character is if it is failing to transfer, it means it didn’t copy to the system that does the transfer. How normal transfers work is they copy from the source server to the system, and then deletes the character from the source. Then it places the copy to the destination.

If the system gets a bad copy or it gets messed up. Then a FC person has to intervene. If its one of their servers they can retrieve the last back up the character was on, and can restore it back to there.

The reason that can fail and the main reason they likely gave up is that backups are pretty much whole copies of the database. There is not separate character file. Servers back up every 5 minutes. Each backup is a whole server database.

This means a backup of around 30 minutes of time can be 12-20GB of files. I don’t know how Funcom has G-portal doing their backups but if they are doing around an hour max (its probably more), then that’s getting into 14TB of backups. That’s not actually a lot considering how many servers we’re talking about.

But there is limits, and I’m certain Funcom is taking offsite backups as well, and what likely happened here is the system failed to copy. For some reason or another the guy handling your stuff was unable to pull a good copy from one of their backups. Or it took too long to process the ticket that they didn’t have a backup on hand. Could be some other bug that they were unable to deal with at the time and potentially an issue that needs to be resolved before bringing transfers back.

For those who lost characters on non-FC servers… they were SOL unless their admins knew how to restore a backup. Some don’t, and probably more aren’t willing to do the effort, instead using admin commands to roughly get a character back. It was admittedly a process they don’t need to handle on a daily basis.

There’s going to be not size expansions of any of the maps. EL is as big as it can be in the current engine. Being as the engine will never be upgraded, this won’t happen either.

The best bet for people that want EL and Siptah content is to play one of the custom maps.

For those who can’t or don’t want to do mods. Well continue playing the vanilla experience you chose to play in the first place.

Last year when they made the 1st Livestream for age of sorcery Dennis said it’s on their program but after January. It’s been two Januarys since then.

That’s the only explanation that makes sense to me. People did a lot “tricks” to by pass the not over encumbered transfers.

They fixed Just Minor bugs they didnt fixed all important bugs still unfixed in chapter 4 delving bench yamatai pillow the undermesh in unamed city Thrall AI and many others ASKED by many peoples and showed in be many streamers in videos Wak Just recorded and posted many times in forum and they Just solved what no one asked to be resolve.

How many time did you think a team can solve a little pillow problem? Or Just a little delving bench problem? Does you think they need months? A creative modder can solve It in less a week.

But of course funcom team dont have time Because they ARE working in dune and the rest of time they need to divide in working in EL MAIN content and a empty little add on Called siptah

My point is not the quality of the bug fixes… but that it has nothing to do with siptah. That’s what I’m trying to get through to you… but you know what? Just forget it. :face_exhaling:

Yeah, fortunately it was an alt character. Still, it was super annoying since I was having it learn some of the recipes I wanted to use on both servers.

Reading is fundamental. From the Patch notes:

Items and Equipment Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where several armor sets could not be delved

It would be nice if the number of people, and there are a number of people, would stop throwing this out there as if Funcom only employs 3 programmers who split their time among games. If you had paid any attention to the process on the home website, you’d know that an entire new team was hired to create Dune. If the guys working on Conan had any input on Dune, it was most likely transferring some code and an explanation.

How many creative modders can write code for both PS5 and Xbox while integrating it into the main program without checking into the root cause for the issue while at the same time passing both of their certifications and having it optimized for all systems? Those who create the mods do some great work, but, since I don’t play on PC, can anyone answer whether there is a mod for the Yamatai pillow issue? If not, why not? It’s been more than a week.

In beta test delven bench still dont give us epic armor learning.

About modders If you check Pc have mods for everything and yes when a problem happen modders Work Very fast and in less a week they have a mod to help us.

So, the pillow issue is fixed? There’s a mod? That was the question.

Also, how does that help console?

Instead of server transfers they could just do a temporary player character copy to another server, sort of like a longer term dark souls invasion wherein the player is just a “spirit summon” on another server only able to use whats on their hotbar/equipped, limited on what they can bring back/transfer and goes back to their home server after pvp death or x amount of time. That way they can learn engrams, run dungeons with friends or fight other players without some janky transfer mechanic deleting characters from the original server.

Not a bad idea, @thoth-anon .
But you need to be able to transfer your inventory if you plan to craft eldarium based gear.

If I was Funcom I would simply state that transfers are risky. We do it knowing we can lose our character. Most transfers work. Having it botched is the exception, but it happens frequently enough to sober us up.

The character once lost, isn’t retrievable. There is no appeal. We assume the risk. We know what we are doing, assume the risk and Funcom won’t hold itself responsible. The way to RP it is that we didn’t survive the voyage. To play safe, we should travel light and with stuff we can afford to lose, taking the necessary precautions with the clan we leave behind, etc.
