So... the menu crash thing. When will it be fixed? [SOLVED! Sorta]

PC, Steam, Win10

Fatal Error:
[File:C:\B\tech_exiles\code\engine\source\runtime\rendercore\private\renderingthread.cpp] [Line: 959]
GameThread timed out waiting for Render Thread after 60.00 secs.

I’ve already created a thread about this before. How many more months will have to pass until it is fixed? After the last major patch every time I try to log in the game freezes in the menu. No matter what button I press there - freeze. It sometimes passes through into the server list, and if that happens I can play just fine, it will not freeze again until I close the game completely. But it sometimes takes me literally hours to get the game to launch.
I already tried to reinstall the game, updated drivers, verified the files multiple times. The issue is not on my end - it’s the game. It’s the last patch that broke it like that. Fix it already, for the love of God. Pleeeeease

Hey, I know this is not a solution, but maybe you could try using BUGLE while waiting for them to fix the problem?

This is ridiculous. I’m trying to find solution by myself and all I see is that different people have the same issue throughout YEARS. I suppose waiting for an actual fix of this is the same as waiting for the world peace.

I had this issue for the better part of a year after one of the patches. What finally fixed it for me was a BIOS update.

If the game was the problem everyone would have the same issue, I can assure you we don’t. It’s how the game operates on your PC and Funcom is not going to send some one to your house to fix your PC.

Tell us about your PC.
Did you do a clean reinstall? There are folders that do not get deleted in an uninstall, and your reinstall just accesses those same folders.
What version of windows are you running?
When was the last time you updated your graphics card?

:face_with_raised_eyebrow: How old was your PC, or did you get hacked? BIOs really isn’t the a thing most PC owners need to mess with. Good way to kill a PC.

Uh, incorrect.

BIOS updates are fairly common.

I’ve had a PC since you could have a PC, never had to update bios. I’ve had to set bios, but I don’t recommend your average Joe with a PC to mess with bios.

Years ago you had to go in to bios to add your new graphics card. Things didn’t used to be autoed.

In the old days, messing with the BIOS was not recommended. Since the late 1990’s early 2000’s, BIOS updates are standard on machines and I am not aware of a PC manufacturer who lacks a BIOS check and update process. I don’t work on Apple products, so am ignorant of their process.

We can compare bonafides, but that’s a null sum game.

Using the manufacturer process to update the BIOS to the latest security and feature set is safe and recommended.

Doesn’t change the fact I have never had to update bios.
I doubt very seriously that is the issue.

Well, considering this issue started the same day Chapter 3 patch launched and also considering that before it and after it I didn’t install any new games/programs or did any changes to my software, I can confidently say that yes - this issue is 100% game’s fault. The fact you don’t have it probably simply means that different software/hardware on your PC reacts differently to it and that you’re more lucky than me.

My PC:
|Processor|Intel(R) Core™ i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz|
|Installed RAM|16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)|
|System type|64-bit operating system, x64-based processor|
Windows 10 x64

I did clean reinstall of the game once (yes i also deleted all files from the folder)
I don’t have any mods and didn’t use or upload any of them since the last reinstallation
All drivers are updated 2 days ago manually via Device manager

Older slower i7, 4.2.
32 gig; 2, 16 gig sticks.
Windows 10 x64

But that is the thing. there may have been others with this same issue but not that I recall reading.
I’ll have to defer to Pugilist. I’ve screwed BIOS messing with bios a few times so I wont even touch it now.

My lord, the first time I had to go in to bios to set it to use my new graphics card was a nightmare. I had to remove the mother board battery and put is back in :scream_cat:

The sheer fact that a mod has to be made to make it work is pretty pathetic. And unfortunately, this only helps PC players, particularly PC players not on official servers.

It’s not a mod, it’s a launcher. It allows you to pick a server or a single-player game before running the game.

The only reason I suggested it is that maybe skipping the menus and the server browser might help, but I don’t know if it will help or not.

But yeah, it’s only for PC :man_shrugging:

Sigh.

Doubt all you desire, it has no effect on reality.

Updating my BIOS fixed this issue for me.

I’m going to go with my 40+ year tech career, of pc builds, network builds, LAN admin, mainframe, mini, pc, LAN, and web programming, and all other aspects of IT, sans cybersecurity, over your feeling.

If you have a burning need to have the last word, please do so with my blessing.

Well that’s good… but still sad.

That wasn’t enough?
I’m not questioning your expertise. But if you can’t guarantee it will work, I can surly doubt it will. Sigh all you like, not going to stop me from being a pessimist.

I never once said it didn’t. But with all that expertise you have to know that a solution that worked for you wont necessarily work for the next person.

And I sure as perdition do not need your blessing to do jack shirt. So you can get your nose out of the air now.

Render thread crash is not a CE thing; its an Unreal Engine thing. It happens on many games that build on UE. The most common solution has to do with video card drivers and default video settings. A google search will provide the different approaches that can be tried for a given pc to resolve it.

Huge thank you for the attempt, i tried your launcher. Sadly the game now simply freezes while loading into the server. So I guess it’s not the menu specific issue

Thanks for trying it. Sorry it didn’t help, but now at least there’s an additional bit of information available: we know it’s not something in the main menu or the in-game server browser. It was a long shot anyway

Maybe try what @Pugilist suggested and see if your BIOS needs an update? I share @DeaconElie’s apprehension when it comes to fiddling with BIOS (and any kind of firmware, to be honest), but if done carefully and correctly, it might solve your problem.

I’m not touching BIOS. No matter how credible this could be, I only got this one laptop and I don’t have money to repair it if it blows up.
I keep hearing suggestions that this issue could be caused by Unreal engine itself, but I failed to find any info on how to handle this. Most ‘guides’ on how to repair/update it for some reason all relate to Epic store version of the game, and I’m on steam. Any ideas?
