I’m an extremely new player (got the game 2 days ago, PC) and I gotta say I’m really enjoying it… it brought me back to the first days of playing Minecraft. So after playing a bit of Single Player and some unofficial servers I hopped onto an official server with the lowest ping.
By this time I had already made all the mistakes I could make and became very conservative with resources. So, I made a hut that was only 2x2 and crammed in a chest, a bed, a campfire, an armourer’s bench and a standing torch without blocking the single doorway. I slowly grinded away until I had enough resources for a full light armour set. I set up a queue, for all paddings and logged out, thinking I’ll pick it back up today.
Today was horrible because I had no free time till evening. So when I finally managed to hop back on the server, all the pieces I crafted were gone (the bench was empty). My first instinct was that this was a bug, But then I realised I was able to access and interact with some of other people’s structures. I thought this was because of the decay mechanic as many structures with owners were locked. I did do the cautious thing of not putting a hole in the wall right next to the bench but the ones after did have a hole. so maybe it was targetable at a weird angle?
Or, my first intuition is right and this is a bug and I should make a report?
Can anyone tell me how to lock my structures if it is indeed the cause?
Walls no windows make sure nothing sticks out throught wall and there is an exploit allowing people to see through the corners of building giving them access to anything unlock not sure if its patched yet. Why anyone would bother with a new person they garbage. If your close to water place a chest underwater close to base and place valuables before logging off keep them hidden and safe.
I see that now after spending some time in this forum. I thought Official was better than private servers because Funcom supports it. Now I realise the have a free for all attitude towards it.
Tags say you’re on PVE if that’s correct no one else should be able to access any of your inventory. If your are on PvP that’s a different story. On PvP all your benches are unlocked and accessible to everyone. You can however lock your chests but people can still blow them up with explosive jars during raid hours.
The only problem with private servers is unless you are paying for it, the owner could take it down at any time.
I was on three different private servers and on two of them the owner shut them down in less than a month of my reaching top level. On the third I didn’t even get to top level.
But it is true the population on those servers was calmer, if you want calm.
Official can be good if you get the right server, I had a blast on my first official, after I was raided 7 times without complaining the large clan became my allies and we fought off many an invader.
As noted, PVP servers can be a free-for all, “Hello, glad to screw you over” environment. If you are looking for more structure in PVP with enforced rules and active moderators, a private server is your best bet, and then a private server that allows members of the community to help pay for it, thus reducing the likelihood of it disappearing suddenly.
PVE is my focus, so while I test ideas in solo mode, I do all my playtime on Official servers. The official community on PVE has been much more positive than negative. There have been some idiots, here and there, but they exist only to be idiots and soon tire of not being able to the full idiot they could be on PVE so fade away.
On PVE servers, I trade thralls, drop resources, build huge structures and transport networks, and, generally, have a grand time with positive community interaction.
