Solar Eclipse + Maelstrom = not fun

Isle of Siptah can get pretty irritating with how dark everything can get all the time but this eclipse event makes it all so much worse.

Maelstrom Light or Final Breath of The Red Mother are your friend.

Worst part is that you can’t use torches when you carry knocked out thralls to your Wheels.
A solution would be argossean dream dust or the darfari mask that give night vision.

But, in the end, yes: it’s annoying when it gets dark. That’s on exiled lands as well.

I found out how terrifying it can be during a maelstrom with the eclipse going on.
For where I was at a forward base near the tower…
For a lack of any source of light, it’s a total blackout.
The best you can see are those eerie glowing eyes when they’re coming for you.
I survived but the base did not, especially when the elder siege things came for the base and they demolished it.

It’s night and there’s a storm, of course it’s dark.

You want rid of it? Hell no, it’s the only real danger the map even offers.

Guess what, darkness is a part of the survival experience.

Would be even better if some enemies become stronger at night like some creatures, or some weaker depending on the type.

Like Rocknoses sleep in the ground, they might be stronger at night, same as for bats

The darkness itself isn’t the issue, it’s the frequency of the darkness. I played 2 hours on Siptah yesterday and 90% of it was either maelstrom, eclipse or a combination of the two which is pitch black. You can’t use a bow, shield, bindings or two-handed weapon for the entire time, if you’re getting purged, taming thralls or doing a surge you basically have to climb out of danger and go make a coffee until it’s over.

That’s why I wish that there would be an option in future, when a player can use both the rope and the torch at the same time. It makes no sense, that with one hand empty the character has OCD and can’t switch the tools as he wishes  I know it has much to do with main hand items, tools and weapons, and offhand mechanics, but still… Maybe one day.

Also I found out that in Exiled lands it’s the areas with corruption and Unnamed City, where the eclipse night makes everything worse. Not that bad like in Siptah’s Malestrom though. I would take it as a challenge.

I have to agree that night time on Siptah is nothing against the one on EL. Also the light sources there are limited and seem to make no difference at all, even with torch on, one can’t see two steps ahead him. Then no Dredger, so no glowing stick, and no Final Breath… Just the basic, painfully glaring orange torch with absolutely no reach.

EDIT: Just read that the Breath may drop from the Red boss dragon, apparently the same as Red mother on EL.

Uh its the same as nighttime. Exactly the same actually- instead of night time you get the eclipse.

Actually your lucky i dont have my paws on the controls- it would 1 hour of night time and one hour of daytime.

I actually prefer the eclipse. Because I appreciate the absence of the excess and exagerated amount of shining stars in EL.

I remember the sky was more natural years ago, then It got changed. The amount of the shining dot’s in the sky is disruptive somehow.

Buy a glimmermoon if you don’t have one already. It’s part of the khitan camp items. One of the best weapons you can get for thrall hunting. Best part is that you can put on your back and still get the benefits of light, which is great for things like climbing. It’s not as bright as a torch, but plenty sufficient. Also, the axe’s damage is pretty decent, so it’s useful for fights as well.

Golem Visage Helmet should absolutely have a built in light source just like golem’s Radium Guardian Head.
