here is some more ; I had more focus on in-game images this time ; im switching abit between two art styles, that is why some images are uploaded twice ; I hope you all enjoy the beauty of it.
Found some in-game textures I ripped from the game I personally really love a good digital art upscale
Honestly this game upscaled have the look of a WoW killer!! WHAAAAAAAAAAT
here is another round ; its just art style ; abit more cartoony tho I think it remove most of the grain from OG textures ; the Ultramix is also good, it still maintain the OG look of it, but doesnt remove the grain
maps and ground textures are really tough to hit spot on ; but it still becomes less blurry and grained if you guys wanna see the before pictures I can upload that aswell
Please funcom! release texture files and let us play around with it! I see a growing popularity in MineCraft people are HD updating the minecraft textures! If you dont wanna do it! let the community do it, I would gladly sit manually and update every single texture 1 by 1 if I had to.
I would let you have all the credit, lol
here are some more !
I found that in general character models are good textured only slightly improvements happens.
but the armor and ground is so low textures that I find it insane how close up it gets when seeing them in a modern art style.
LETS GO FOLKS ! Here are some BEFORE AND AFTERS!
Too bad that there is no option to put upscaled textures back in game. Aoc would look gorgerous with 4k upscaled textures.
Aside of that - what program do you used to upscale images? On my opinion they look too cartoonish. Maybe better use Topaz Lavbs Upscaler?
I use the software called Upscayl ; maybe they look to cartoonish, it is tbh just a take on how the game could look, and imo it is very if on par with WoW if not better even in its cartoon state. The games potential is huge im scared to see it not realised especially considering how good the game actually is.
btw
I noticed in a chat previously back in maybe 19, that you talked with a guy that surpassed the barrier, did he ever bring it up to you how he did it?
I did alot of decoding myself but I need the exact path of the file + the name in order to try bypass the barrier in a upscaled graphic
and also imo I dont care how funcom would ever manage to upscale their style, I would just be stoked to see it really im sitting everyday even in my off periods hoping that they would give this game just another chance, the foundation is on point, somthing almost if not all modern MMOs / games are lacking
Hey Funcom please support the work we wanna put in this !
its really not alot of stuff you have to provide
and btw I would be thrilled to see some of ur work I am really looking for inspiration
No, i have rdb exctractor tool but i didnt manage to put it to any use. I can send you program if you need.
I wanted to make AoC better too, even contacted funcom devs but have no response from them about upscaling and etc.
Too bat that they abandoned Aoc and right now they dont have any coders who know how to work with its engine. Best solution was to rebuild Aoc on UE5 engine with craft rewamp that they promised for the game. With new content aoc can compete with modern mmos like TESO for example.
imo it can highly compete with WoW now adays I come from the WoW community and I know what alot of people are looking for in that community and AoC offers ALOT of that
A slight polish and a good reannouncement and alittle promise of a little new content can put them on the market again.
lol hi, said person is me
I did try and contact you a few times but thought you weren’t interested
Agree though, the AI upscale brings up the resolution but it looks cartoony and glossy like all things AI and I’m not really a fan of how it looks
Turns out texture upscaling is quite complex as one thing is making lower-res old game textures less blurry and another is making HD texture packs that add detail that the original textures don’t even have (like those Skyrim HD texture replacers). AI struggles to add detail that isn’t there to begin with. And besides, specialised AIs should be used for different textures to get the best result rather than just one generic one slapped over all like it’s going to be a magic solution.
It is the job for an artist or someone technical to look into, so if anyone with more experience sees this please do get in touch.
the major issue I find is ground, building and most armor textures are generally lower res than character models ;
The way shadow effects are used in the game is also an issue.
The character models are cartoonish by nature, there is not much realistic about them I have looked at them in many ways, the core graphics has a touch of grainy, that I think can be uplifted with code, somthing Ive already looked into.
Another one here ; still looks low px ; despite it being giga upscaled.
The image here is a ground texture, despite it being giga upscaled it still looks low pixel, simply because they are very low pixel these can be re-imagined by an artist or AI imo ;
another good example of the diffrence between a Cartoonish upscale vs a upscaled original and where I think it shines thru very bright is these two images.
I think the cartoonish style brings a more timeless desgin to the game, somthing that outlasts.
But I do agree with you that sure, cartoonish is not perfect for the game considering how some elements looks in the game already, they are beautiful.
Therefor it would be best if there were designers but I currently know none. And I could settle for a more timeless design like the cartoonish if I were to make this work.
Any custom textures are more than welcome! Id love it! I have even considered to see if possible (which could be hell of a project to take some armors from CE, and bring in the game, not by stats but by apperance, lets say replace a random armor piece with a DLC armor or random armor from CE.
But I dont wanna get ahead of myself here
Id recently stumpeled upon alot of information and I am currently working on RDBExtractor and improving and decoding the list file, and trying to implament addons to the tool to make it more 2.0
I tried to google but I could not find an open source version of the software, which I would very much like to get my hands on, I have alot of data I can add in the software
