I’ve been playing for 7 years so - until now - I thought I knew how to build a safe base and log out safely.
This is stumping me, however. This is the second time they’ve done it. It’s not simply a “slow load, run in and snatch” type deal since they have plenty of time to manually kill me and two of my clanmates and loot.
-base is completely safe from gas, no windows, logged far from walls
-there are two layers of doors/walls all around (no terrain they can glitch through)
-no thralls or tavern, so noone to open doors
-base is on ground so no access from underneath
-no teleporter or anything like that nearby
If you are on PC, then there are some pretty advanced and very game breaking hacks out there that allow players admin level authority. I have yet to see these be reported on consoles but as far as the PC game, it’s very dangerous to play on and I would recommend a secured private server to online play anymore.
Do you play on an official server? I’m assuming so for now. If so, PvP or PvE, or PvE-C? Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your base with us here in the forum?
I’m not sure this is the infamous hack software that’s going around, because other than killing us and looting us nothing else was done. I still have all my knowledge points, thralls or containers weren’t touched. Just looks like a normal kill and loot.
I’m just not seeing something. Malicious players used to snatch and grab by running in and looting before the doors finished loading in, but the base is designed to prevent that and we were all actually killed, which takes time.
It’s not even the most obvious answer that someone left a door open and someone snuck in behind, because me and all my clanmates immediately close doors behind ourselves and only go through the second door once the first is closed behind us.
Funcom, in their great wisdom, decided to remove the looting player names from our logs so it only shows “another player blah blah”, so I don’t even know who it was. Considering all the hacks and exploits and griefing going around I have no idea what genius at Funcom decided to make player names anonymous in the log - much less seven years into the game for no explicable reason.
Base is simply a stormglass double-walled (one foundation apart) box built directly on the terrain mesh. There are no holes in it. Two stormglass doors one foundation apart. We always go in, turn around, close door, and then go through the other, turn around, close that door - so I won’t say it’s impossible, but it is extremely unlikely that someone could have followed us inside.
Just to be sure, there is no access from the roof ? (thinking of the bat demon)
also it might be extremely unlikely but if they used the invisible spell and followed you in , they still can’t get out untill you let them out
another thing that can happen is if they logged off long ago where you built your base and when they logged back in were trapped inside.
I would suggest you to scout every inch of the inside the culprit might still be there ( if it’s not a hack user )
Actually if they can get in and kill you/loot you, getting out is simply a matter of pulling bracelet and using the Summon Corpse spell.
I’ve never actually tried the invisibility spell. Aren’t they still partially visible, like Predator’s cloaking? We’d have had to have let them in twice. I can’t imagine anyone in our clan being that oblivious. We’re all from PVP stock so checking behind us and closing doors is second nature.
yes indeed they could Summon Corpse, but what if they never left ? that means that you might have let them inside once (if not that they logged trapped inside already) , and now they simply log off hiding behind a bench waiting for the next time.
and yes it’s like the predator cloaking but it’s still quite effective if they don’t move while you’re looking at them .
You have a spell to reveal corruption (or something like it) and anything corrupted around you will be invisible no more. But tbh, i don’t believe you have done any mistake, it’s just a hack. The fact that they don’t “push it” a lot, doesn’t mean they are not using hack.
Tomorrow empty your inventory in a chest and tp to jungle to sleep on a tree. If you wake up dead again then it’s definitely a hack since they can track you no matter where you are. In this case however, you’ll just show them the middle finger, because they get nothing and if you spawn in desert, returning home is just a bracelet removal.
Somebody got into my base and did nothing. I woke up in hunger and died. I thought maybe somebody found my body and took my food. Now it is just an experience.
You guys must have some hugeass bases. If a rabbit wandered into my base I would notice it right away
I’ve snuck into people’s bases behind them and hidden behind benches, but in mine there is nowhere to hide. Every square mm along the walls is in use with either benches or stacks of chests.
stelagel: I’m starting to think so. Just to be safe though this time I added an extra vestibule around the entrance that is just walls. There is no door. We’ll see what happens.
Part of the reason I left Official PVP is the ESP hacks. Until now PVE-C was pretty untouched, there have only been exploiters and offline purge abusers.
I stopped playing officials around 2 years ago , still have a solo play that i log in very rarely… but I keep coming on the forums to see if bugs are getting fixed to make me want to play more or not. Even if you don’t have a lot of spaces to hide , you can still hide easy by emoting sleep in small gaps behind benches and else… I’m not saying it’s 100% sure what’s happening , and I would be more enticed to think like @stelagel that it’s a hacker not using it’s full destructive potential. but if it isn’t then I would check to see if it’s not a “sleeper agent” still inside.
The obvious question is how much do you trust your clan mates.
Beyond that I’m hesitant to say anything. Been a looooong time since I was on any pvp server and much has changed to say the least. But without saying too much and assuming they’re not using hacks there is, or at least used to be, an exploit that allows opening other people’s doors. If that’s what they’re doing then solid walls, aka no doors, may stop it.
Does playing a sleep emote persist on logout, or do you mean to do this to test how you will appear when logging out in a specific spot (and if so, I assume it’s a specific sleep emote that plays every time)?
I play on a private server with the bodies persisting on logout turned off, so I admit I’ve never been sure how that feature works. That’s a really interesting way of hiding, either way. Wish I had played this game back in the golden age of its PvP to have tried it (seems a bit late to get into now, hackers and all).
I understand the idea you want to convey. With current hardware, the Meta Quest is still optional. The drivers (for VR), however, need an update that prevents someone sticking their head through the wall. I got notice it is being worked upon, but you see no ETA here. I’m not guessing it. There is a link cord that goes between the headset and the pc. It allows for an augmented experience that has been in demand.
Isn’t this what BattleEye is supposed to stop?
Or is it’s sole purpose just to waste resources and randomly kick legit players?
Also isn’t netlimiter just to create artificial lag? I know there is an exploit where people log in/out near a house and then run in before the doors load in, but I thought that only allowed a quick run in and snatch and grab? All three of us had our armor removed, were then killed, then completely looted. Which seems to indicate that someone was standing inside the house and had all the time in the world to do whatever they wanted.
Again I can’t help but praise Funcom for the genius idea to suddenly remove player identifiers from the log and anonymize them in a game that is known for rampant hacks and exploits.
I used to complain about the doors… they took awhile to load in. I stated the doors needed to be loaded first… in order to get out, which is a big thing. Like minutes.
