Something to get off my chest

, ,

Just figured I’d express my thoughts on Enhanced edition.

Let me be clear about something first. I’m in no way at all putting any blame on the devs.

After CE:E released on steam I was looking forward to it coming on console and coming to find out it was exclusive to Steam was very surprising. In the aspect that I wasn’t expecting it to be exclusive. Funcom have always been very communicative about console updates and not leaving us behind and it was even more surprising that they decided to do the same with Epic and Microsoft PC. Didn’t see that one coming. I really like the game and hearing that the most major update was gonna be Steam exclusive was very demoralizing. I understand that this is a small team of devs and they don’t want to leave us out of the loop but I can’t help but feel left behind on a game that I’ve come to enjoy these past 2 years.

I had played the game in early 2019 with a buddy of mine. He introduced me to the game and it just didn’t grasp my attention for long. I had fun but I forgot about it shortly after and didn’t come back for a bit. Come 2023 I stumble upon a youtuber who did 100 days in CE. It was entertaining. Then I stumble across another youtuber who did a beginners guide for the game. I learned a lot and thought I’d give it another go. So another buddy of mine got our friend group a private server and that’s when I was ready to give it another chance. I’m glad I did but my wallet wasn’t. I had fun this time, playing with my friends. I caught the tail end of Age of War Chapter 3 and had fun doing Chapter 4 but one by one they stopped playing with me. Which sucked cause I wanted to play more. So I decided to try out the Isle of Siptah server solo and came across a server called Archon. I enjoyed it. I wanted to play more but I found out that Archon was gonna be shutting down after 7 or 8 months (I can’t remember) of activity. I was bummed out again. So I decided to rent and admin my own public server. We’re now on our 1 year anniversary and I try to keep things fresh and exciting for my server members but again, the CE:E update on steam has me feeling down.

I just hope we get to play CE:E on console as well as Epic and MS PC. I would move to PC but then I would not only lose access to all the items I’ve bought over the years but I would also be abandoning my server members. Which is completelyout of the question. My buddy would too but he would lose his Conan Royal Armor. Which is something we can’t get anymore. My buddy has been supporting the game since it’s game preview and is more passionate about this than I am. He’s not a fan of CE:E being Steam exclusive and feels singled out for the system he plays on. Which, from what I’ve seen on the forums, he’s not alone in thinking this way. I can understand the passion though. Supporting the game since 2017 and not able to play the biggest update it’s ever had must feel like a punch to the gut.

I appreciate Funcom for spending time developing updates and pushing out new content for the game. I just can’t help feeling left behind.

TLDR: While I understand the update process is easier on Steam than it is on other platforms, I can’t help but feel left behind all because of the platform I decide to play on.

(Off topic: adding a way for us to acquire the royal armor and sword would be nice to see. The nudity DLC being region specific is also silly when you’ve got games like Cyberpunk and Baldur’s Gate 3 that exist. The BLB is also silly being timed exclusive. I have a recommendation on how to change that but I won’t get into that.)

One hundred percent agrement that consoles should get access to CEE. I certainly hope that you do. The only positive I can come up with is that maybe they are waiting to iron out the worst of the bugs before it gets ported over (and there are some really quite bad ones right now). But I would still really like to see a proper statement that it will be ported across (rather than just that it is being looked into). I really don’t like this sense that we have a two-tier playerbase, and I believe it is driving many console players to stop playing the game (I know of several) because they quite rightly feel abandoned.

Pure speculation but it’s possible that the people they have who can do the port are all busy on porting Dune to console at the moment.

It may be that the plan is to see how that goes and how difficult it is then have them look at what would be involved in porting CE and make a call on whether it would be worth it or even possible.

I’m fairly sure they know lots of people want it to happen. Surely they would want a huge jump in the number of players, as happened on PC, as more people playing means more people buying things.

Ultimately if they could wave a magic wand and make it happen I believe they would. It’s just not that simple.

Biggest issue to bring on the consoles, is that for patches of correction they need aproval and other things that consoles, Epic and MS Store on PC demands, and Steam does not! pretty sure after the game is actually stable it will go up on consoles and other stores! just to say a bit, the current state of the game is worse than the early access, extra buggy, rubber banding is almost the mais feature, servers that desapears for 4/5 hours whitout apparent motive, total lack of moderation over rules breaking on official servers as well, and all the problens comming with every update patch, the Bazaar is worse than ever too, 13 slots, only 3 rotate, 2 of 3 rotate only once in a week, so, almost nothing new

The player numbers CE got on steam after the update is, in my view, a strong indicator that they’ll update the game for console.

If the update had not garnered much attention, we can be quite sure that they wouldn’t have bothered to update console CE. That doesn’t make the opposite true. They might still avoid the cost of porting the game again. Buuuuuut I guess the numbers are there, so that the money guys will give the green lights.
