Sorcery and combat

Ok question does funcom ever see or reads these if not this is a waste. But I was wondering if there’s more sorcery to come in the future and will there be a rework to sorcery. I think as someone who plays as a full corrupted build I should have at least in advantage in PVE and PVP fights. PVE fights you know I can handle myself but Conan being more or less a PVP game I just feel like sorcery isn’t what it should be. For the simple fact that to be a full corrupted build I’m giving away half of my health and half of my stamina rendering me way less defensive than normal players and yet even with half stamina have health the sorcery spells seem to not even be worth it just wondering if they’re going to end up putting more defensive spells in there not asking for fireballs and whatnot just something that would help us out with combat it would also be cool to just see new spells added to Conan for the sorcery lovers and also what would be cool is to get a staff or whatnot and some more sorcery themed outfits. So I guess the big question here funcom is if there’s a chance we will see more sorcery spells added to the game

I’m always in agreement with more spells so long as they fit the Conan Hyborean age. Usually that would mean more utility spells and rituals. I had suggested some basic earthquake spell to knock your opponents prone for a few seconds as an example.

May Set be with you :snake:

Given that sorcery just came out I don’t see an overhaul happening any time soon.

There was talk of new spells being added in the ‘next age’ but this was before Age of War was decided to be the next age. I’m guessing the idea of new spells in an Age focusing on combat didn’t make much sense.

I suspect we’ll see some new spells in an Age of Faith style update however.

Pretty much this. I don’t see any overhauls anytime soon. And to be honest I don’t think major overhauls are needed. Just an occasional new spell here and there and some adjustments primarily to stamina.

Well, isn’t this sorcery a bastardized version of true sorcery? Because something in the Exiled Lands (let’s use EL for argument’s sake) has something that prevents sorcery, but Mek-Kamoses and a few others, including a few demons, taught us how to use a form of sorcery that’s weaker but can be used in the Exiled Lands.

Also, I believe it was said in an earlier Dev Stream, Funcom doesn’t want an Elder Scrolls/Final Fanatsy 14/or traditional fireball throwing fights, because these were always one sided, and for Conan, they want people to actually still use swords.

Nah… unless you had something specific in mind. I find I use sorcery a lot. It’s not something going away soon.

These would make the melee combat completely obsolete.

No.

No.

The system came and gone. Look the new shiny thing that will never get polished in the future.

I would say its a supped up version. True sorcery is just using technological devices. Such as Thoth-Amon’s ring, the Food Replicators in the desert, or the force field belt used by Conan to protect against the devices used by the circle of sorcerers. No magic in the fantasy sense is involved.

The Hyborian Age is closer to Star Trek (and I even believe it inspired some things in that Franchise several decades later) then it is the vancian-magic inspired D&D.

Except, it was mentioned by Mek-Kamoses before sorcery dropped, when he was preparing the spire, that this sorcery is different than what sorcerers like Thoth-Amon has. That it was powerful enough to counter the effects of the Exiled Lands’ own magic, that made sorcery originally impossible. Also, technically you’re correct, because there are indeed aliens in Conan Exiles; Giant Kings, Frost Giants, even Ymir is an alien. There are also the Cthulhu cosmic horrors, which are interdimensional beings from another planet (technically aliens). As Thor says in the Marvel universe, magic is just science not yet discovered.

That’s exactly the point. Funcom doesn’t want that. Also, sorcery in the Conan universe (Novels, ignore the comics) isn’t like your typical fire ball throwing spells. It’s mostly using artifacts of unknown origins. So, there’s no real mana, no one can be born a sorcerer, not in the same sense as other fantasy games/movies sorcerers. Although, I would think Jafar from Disney’s Aladdin would be a great example of how a sorcerer really is in Conan.

Or, as said by another genius, “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a big gun”.

Yes. The bracelets block magic so in order to do sorcery you have to go about it in a more complicated way.

This is a joke right?
For pve…
If the abysmal gear isn’t advantage then what is?
Playing with this gear and correct attributes, there’s nothing to stop you in pve, literally nothing. And it’s extremely cheap.
For pvp, there’s no skybase or anticlimb method to stop you.

If sorcery had a little “more” like the first time it was presented (op lightning strikes) then it would be the “only” build.
Nobody wants this, not even you fellow exile.

Yes they do!

This one sympathizes and do wish that they would continue development of Sorcery.
Bringing it more up to speed with what we read in Hour of the Dragon.
At horrible cost, of course.

Regarding combat magics…
So much room for curses and miasmas and diseases.
To say nothing of the meteor sorcerer that can be spawned from the NPC list.

I never even thought about this. Does the thunderstorm spell hit sky bases? That would be a great way to remove the skybase cheaters if it does.

Yes, the battle in the end between the Acheronian sorcerer-lich Xaltotun, Zelata the Witch and the mystic Asuran priest Hadrathus was epic. That’s the sort of combat magic I’d like to see in the game, too.

This one would probably skip the blue lasers.
Earlier in the book we see Plagues, Paralysis, and Mind Control and greater usage of natural disasters. That’s more what this one has in mind.
The final battle, in some ways, seems to have slightly inspired the final battle in Willow, in that it’s as much a game of MacGuffin reveal as direct conflict. Which is not meant as a slight.

While much of that is made possible thru the Heart of Ahriman, that just smells like a craftable, possibly single use, item made with lots of sacrifices and something only obtainable by dismantling legendary items. Alternatively, give the Trapehzoehatsit something to do. Or those other win/leave the game relics.
