Sorcery spells Feedback

So i have mixed feeling on some of these but overall i think we took a step in an interesting direction and i have quite a few thoughts on all of them. But ill try to keep it short, Ill start in no particular order.

  1. Icebridge, perhaps my favorite spell. As a pvp player i love the concept of this spell as it makes my life of breaking into other bases so much easier when i can just ice bridge my way ontop. Fun to use to boot. Great job does exactly what it says on the tin.

  2. Featherfall Does what it says on the tin i like it. I don’t often find a lot of use for it unfortunately. used it one time thus far just to see what it would do. Honestly one of the less useful spells in my opinion sadly.

  3. Wall of fire. I was severely disappointed with this one. While it did instakill a named thrall at the buccaneer bay location and provide a nice wall to keep them at bay. I was expecting something else entirely. I had expected something similar to a DND wall of fire that would burn enemies that crossed over or stood in it. Instead its basically a short (one wall high.) Wall made of lava that prevents movement and does burn damage. Great for thralls but not so much players who will probably just wait it out or climb over around it/go around it. Really would have loved for this to be a more offensive spell or aggressive damage spell. But it wasn’t Still i can see it being used to block holes in raids or even ward of purge enemies. So Not to terrible.

  4. Darkness. I don’t even really understand what this does besides lower visibility. it seems to make some thralls cower and others utterly ignore it. I never got to really test it on a player but i highly doubt it does much and it doesn’t last to terribly long either. Honestly i think this would have been better as a ritual spell that could be permanently maintained in a location like around a base and warded off with light so you could keep raiders from seeing the exact layout of the base or keep archers from plinking at you. It does however do what it says on the tin and severely reduces visibility but honestly i don’t see many uses for this currently.

  5. Resource harvesting. Sooo this is a cool spell i really want to like it but the fact that you pay a cloth pouch for it every time you want to use it and it requires 20% corruption makes it not worth while for me personally. This is a raw spell that is very basic you are just smashing everything near you. Personally i feel it should have been free even if it got half the area and should have been in the catagory of the first tier spells. I cannot condone the use of this spell personally due to cost and the fact that it really doesn’t seem to do anything great for you. In some cases it can be helpful i do believe like harvesting silk or shrooms or even crystals but beyond that id say use a pickaxe and call it a day. 100% in my opinion needs a rework.

  6. Lightning storm, does what it says on the tin again. Though it fails to warn you that it will obliterate you as well. The lighting itself does not seem to target people in the area. just seems to strike randomly sometimes doing massive damage to enemies and sometimes just blasting the ground. Also the frequency of the lighting strikes is very few and far inbetween making it feel lack luster for the price you payed to unlock it and to use it. a leather pouch aint cheap. I’d say increase the number of lighting strikes and make them target things in the area. Otherwise it feels mostly thematic. localized thunderstorm on demand and all that.

  7. Hide corruption. It does what it says on the tin… But i am unsure why you would care?

  8. Mirror self. Mixed feelings about this. You have to be close enough to cast it. it don’t think it works on players and i am unsure what use it would really have in the long run. I suppose you could potentially pair it with lightning storm and hope it blasts the group? but beyond that it doesn’t aid a lot. Interesting concept but not really sure what to do with it.

  9. Invisibility. Hit the nail on the head with this one. Makes you invisible. mind you there is a discolored shimmer at close range so its more like a cloak but still this is great for walking around the world and keeping players from seeing you also it seems to make thralls ignore you. Which makes me wonder since you unlock it and mirror self at the same time… Why have both? when this one is clearly the better of the two?

  10. Bat demon. This guy is pretty fun, spacebar to go up C to go down and he glides around. It is my understanding that you must use light armor with him i did not test that aspect. He doesn’t last very long however. Meaning you need to use him on short distances and if you are high in the air and he runs out of time. you are toast. Costs a lot to use though sadly. i’d say probably reduce the cost and call it even.

  11. Zombie horde. The spell i wanted to like the most and ended up hating. The mist around this spell makes it great for obscuring vision but the zombies spawned are trash at best just extra bodies to pull attention and get pushed through the grinder. compared to zombies made by the shallow grave ritual these mist zombies are worse than the legacy undead thralls. I do not in any way recommend this spell and i would not waste my resources on it unless it brings it up to par with the zombies made from thralls. It should make zombies based off the thralls in the region meaning it is weak in the exile river area or extremely powerful in the well of skellos as it raises the dead in the region.

  12. Wisp. Neat little concept like the green light that it gives off a like that it can be stationary or attached to the character. Good for those of us who want to do sword and board but also have light to see and its low corruption cost. Honestly however i’d have made it a soul essence needed to cast this rather than a burlap sack… It is meant to be a soul after all. Also i’d have made the stationary permanent as a source of spooky lighting!

  13. Resource detection. So this would be great on procedurally generated maps. But we have resource maps and most of us know exactly where to find everything. So this really isn’t a great spell. Yeah it could potentially be helpful but most of us don’t need it and won’t use it.

  14. Corruption detection. Honestly i didn’t see anything glow with this i looked high and low even at thralls. I have no idea what this things purpose is… Maybe to see player sorcerers for what they are? Not sure don’t recommend.

All in all my review isn’t great for the new spells. But this is the first major swing at sorcery for conan exiles so i wasn’t expecting God tier results. Honestly i’d like to see the majority tweaked and put in a place they can be used or useful. And i’d love to see them expand on sorcery for both the survival bit and combat bit. I’ve seen some Combat magic within the world of Conan so i know it exists but i don’t know it what all compacities it exists. Hopefully we will see more cool things as this stuff progresses. All in all thematically though the magic looks great mechanically was rather underwhelming.

You should try putting a lightning storm above or around a base. Its very amazing thing to see

does it deal damage to the base? If so it would be substantially more useful. But on the testlive server i am on base damage is off.

It blows rocks up… I wonder if it would set off a Jar?

from all the spells only 4 of them are useful. with all others being extremely situational or simply not used at all.

ice bridge has its uses.
the bat basically makes pillar bases and walls worthless
the aoe farm hats potential
and the storm gives griefing opportunities.

the rest? almost useless xD.
i would really like to see the lava wall buffed more tall, more damage, impossible to climb but most importantly, that it can tank projectiles including trebs for a few seconds!

I know sorcery isnt a PVP thing, but it would be cool to have some battle (basic) abiliies anyway,
So you can at least make some trouble in pvp\pve encounters until you manage to flee or change to melee.

i mean theoreticallly i would assume so?

we are kinda giving up a ton to be able to use sorcery i did kinda hope there would be some battle options for us.

Corrupted perks?

Highest possible str damage bonus is only attainable with corruption. Every corrupted perk on all the corruptible stats are very good

he’s talking about being able to use magic in combat instead of just mace making bonk

Nice review, but coming from a purely mechanics/no-context perspective. Some of the spells there are… what a different game calls fluff. Just think about the length of the non-interactive animation you have to go through in order to get some reagents for these spells. It’s not just about mechanics. There’s some practical stuff in there, and then there’s some cool stuff.

That actually says it all. You play a game with fairly high graphical fidelity, and a character creator, in third person. Yeah it matters how your character ends up looking. It used to be that we all played 1st person in early access, and a bit after launch. But that game does not exist anymore. If you’re blind to that, it’s ok, really, but just look at the popularity of the “Fashionist” mod, or, ultimately, look at the current devs major turn from Joel Bylos’ WYSIWYG principle.

I’m not saying I like this turn, but it is what it is. And… it definitely brings a thematic feel to the whole system - so I think that the hide corruption spell is one that needs to be actually more expensive

In any case: don’t just judge everything by pure practical game mechanics, some game mechanics may not have a “practical” side at all, because they are in fact used by the devs to shape up a mood/story/theme. Think of the checkpoints in Far Cry 2…

Nice write-up! I’ve had similar and different thoughts about each.

probably we need smth to help you quickly deal damage or just flee…

  • quick cast shield around caster
  • arcane attack via the staff dealing low damage but pushing attacker from you
  • heavy dmg attack but in greather cost of your hp and stamina (some kind of final chance act)

Making the Second attack of the staff actually viable would be better, being able to imbue arcane/elemental energy throught It would be cool and stay with the melee concept, instead of taking damage and releasing a cloud of HIV

Probably. But it’s not something I’d count on. I don’t doubt it would blow up the jar, but the lightning is fairly random so there’s no guarantee when or even if it would hit the jar.

That is a bit of a over statement.

I kind of wonder if there’s not something more to that secondary attack than people realize. I mean, the first stroke looks like you’re stabbing something at just above your knees or so. Makes me think you’re supposed to hit something specific with it, like the skinning knife or the cleaver. I tried it on rocks and trees and corpses, as I’m sure many others have, but it didn’t seem to do anything.

I dunno, I think they sort of suck. They don’t really feel more powerful. It’s cool when like a pro happens, but it’s so RNG and far in-between. Also the normal vet perks are much stronger than the corrupted ones. Poison doesn’t hurt as much in 3.0, so it’s not even a big deal either. I hope someone finds a use for them, but my testing has left me feeling underwhelm with them all.

maybe something else is coming, they went to the trouble of animating it and it’s not such an easy thing to do to do so little damage.

The HIV cloud dont make Sense for me also that explosion attack

  1. Wall of fire
it would be cool if we could first draw on the ground the pattern we want to give the wall. Cuz it’s not very useful in its current form.
  2. Darkness. I like this spell. but we need normally working night vision buffs. Cuz now they almost dont work. This will open up many interesting pvp situations.
  3. Lightning storm. Almost usless spell for now. If you use a random place for lightning - increase the frequency by 5-10 times
  4. Zombie mist. Like darkness - i love concept. But zombie with 100 hp? rly? with no dmg…
Need or x10 zombie with 100 hp and x5 dmg, or x5 zombie with 500 hp and x5 dmg. Then it will be worth.
