Hey everyone!
So, I love The Secret World, probably my favourite game of all time.
However, I’m wondering if it’s still worth playing or if I should just say my goodbyes now, as there’s a few people out there saying the game’s about to die (at least judging from the Death of a game thread).

Well,worth o not it depent on yourself,I personaly love it but everyone have diferent views and thats just their personal feeling…I would advice you to download it and try it yourself,because only yourself could answer that question for you.Dont listen to much from other ppl,specialy about this question…
I love the game, so I know it’s worth playing from that point of view.
My question is more around - is the game inevitably going to shut down or is it expected to keep going?
If Anarchy Online is any indication, the servers will stay up ‘indefinitely’ as long as they can throw a few bucks to the hamsters every now and then–if that’s what you mean by keep going.
Everything’s inevitably going to come to an end. If you’re asking if there are signs of an impending shutdown of SWL? Not at all. Even classic TSW is still up and running.
Most people posting the Death of a Game thread are still playing, so obviously there’s still some entertainment value to be had.
I don’t think anyone is advocating that the game will be completely shut down any time soon. These games don’t really die, they just get put on life support. We’re not quite there yet. SWL is still getting some content updates. Not enough to keep the general player base from declining, but enough to keep some people interested.
It really depends on what stuff you like to do in the game. If you log in every day to work on your own personal grind, then that’s going to be around for a while. If you’re big into group content, that’s going to be harder and harder to do as people keep leaving. If you’re sticking around to see what the next bit of story content will be, you’re probably going to be disappointed.
The game is still getting updates and seems to be doing reasonably well population wise. Most of the current doom and gloom on the forums is entirely concocted by a handful of people who were unhappy with the devs spending time on an april fool’s patch.
Ppl been calling death forever, still going =P. If you in Any way think you will enjoy the game, play it. When the day comes where it ends or your fun ends, im sure you will find something else. In either case nothing takes away the time you had

VMC really isn’t all that fun in its SWL incarnation. And you don’t (permanently) get a rocket launcher, either.
Try Occult Defense. That’s new in SWL, and as someone who doesn’t even like SWL scenarios much, I’d play OD over VCM ten times out of nine.
I’d definitely say it’s worth playing.
There’s still new content being worked on, and what has been added has been pretty fun! I don’t know whether you played South Africa’s story, but there’s been a few missions added to that zone since its launch, the return of Faction Rank missions like Into Darkness and Rogue Agent, an entirely new scenario type called Occult Defence, a single-player challenging boss gauntlet known as Dark Agartha, and as of April 1st, a PvP minigame called the Rosenbrawl where you can finally box each other - plus a few new hidden missions meant to serve as challenges in their own right!
While we do not yet know when the next story update will be, there’s not any indication that Funcom is going to abandon Secret World Legends any time soon, even if updates might be slow or small!
And no matter what, we can trust that Funcom won’t take the game offline for a long, long time.
Come back to Secret World Legends and enjoy yourself!

If you’re a veteran; nope.
This is all content that has absolutely no worth to me whatsoever.
And I hope I’m not alone in this, because I really don’t want to see any more of it.
Without it, you certainly won’t see any more story content.
Not really worth playing if you’re maxed out and looking for endgame content. If you’re still exploring the story: 100% worth playing.
I’m currently running around collecting all the lore and achievements now, the endgame loop is utterly terrible and it shouldn’t be considered really as a motivation to play this game.
To your point, I haven’t finished the story (just started SA) and haven’t maxed everything out, so all good in that sense.
My question was mostly due to hearing opinions here and there about how the game would inevitably shutdown. Secret World (and after that SWL) is probably my favourite game of all time, but I hadn’t played in a couple of mounts.
Was asking mainly to understand if I should go back or not, because I didn’t want to be surprised by a sudden shutdown and then be sad over it ending.
Funcom have kept Anarchy Online running for almost 18 years and TSW is still running even though they relaunched it, so I think it’s safe to say they’re at least unlikely to suddenly shut down SWL without warning. 
They said play forever, the infrastructure required to keep this running is not very demanding as there’s only a few hundred playing so it’s likely it’s just a virtual machine running on their existing infrastructure that serves conan exiles.
Really we probably won’t see an end to TSW or AO until Funcom actually lose their servers one day
