Lately it looks like Funcom has at least partially stopped releasing more of their “50 variations on wizard/shaman armor” series.
The Nemedians as “sort of medieval Germans” are quite interesting , just the pride of each faction - their heavy armor is generally considered the ugliest and worst armor in the game ( and that competition is great).
I tried to build a design for a different heavy armor , not “an officer that looks more like a bandit” but something decent and if possible based on the existing armor in the game.
The overall design I - partially - tried to compose “elsewhere” but even there I was limited by erhm … finances so don’t take it as 100% accurate , rather just something for an idea.
The helmet should be a bascinet or something similar , one is already this in the game , or a helmet I guess in a new bazaar set is suitable.
The body should be a more robust version of an infantry cuirass or something in the style of the Silent legion medium - just a Brigantine with chainmail as a base
Poitain footman is too “late” in my opinion.
I was thinking more of classical / early medieval - a chainmail with a brigantine or tabard.
If anything, the Poitain medium would be more appropriate.
The Hyborian Age is supposed to be set in ancient or pre-ancient times, which would make chain mail a space-age invention in its inhabitants view. Better than more plate armor, though, for my taste.
Yes, the Conan stories do feature plate armor that sounds more renaissance than even middle ages. But we don’t have to take everything from the stories literally, I think.
Chainmail was crafted much earlier than plate, seems to have worked quite well and was used for a very long time. So… its relative scarcity in Conan Exiles is a bit weird.
Also, Aunty Entity. Yes, yes, different genre, but same time period as the movies that brought all of this into popular culture.
This one would like to see more Lamellars/Brigandines as well as Mail (and not just random sashes). This one thinks that one of Nemedian heavy’s biggest problems (other than having open toed sandals) is it’s inability to be dyed. That ratty mail is way too shiny. Pick one, darkened crows mail, or shiny and well made/complete haubergeon.
This one personally finds Poitain limbs with Silent Legion medium torso and legs a good approximation of transitional armour of the mail and coat of plate variety.
That said, something with fewer skulls and more dragons may be nice.
Also, no reason they couldn’t do a scale and chain kini/banana hammock set, sorta like the bejeweled set from the Derketo treehouse taphouse DLC.
Perhaps it could be packaged with more torture device placeables?
Why would we not want a game set in the Hyborian Age look like how the Hyborian Age was described by its original creator?
The Howardian lore is based on a cycle where great civilizations rise and fall. Just like the earlier Thurian Age had its great empires, so does the Hyborian Age. Both collapsed into near-nothingness due to natural disasters etc., so what we “know” about our real-world pre-Ice Age technology and culture has no relevance to how the cultures in the fictional Hyborian Age developed.
That said, mail armor featured prominently in Howard’s Conan stories, and was often favored by Conan himself, so naturally I’d love to see more variations of it in the game. But maybe it’s just a pain in the butt to model, compared to leathers or plate.
Yes it’s a wonderful game , made here in our country and also set here - couple of years ago, I spent a holiday travelling around the locations in the game.
this is the great thing about Conan - the constant cycle of rise and fall , extinct civilisations etc …
who knows how far technology has come in Conan’s time, just one thing and then things can go very fast - 200 years ago the oceans were sailed by sailing ships and what do we have now… technically the return of sailing ships …
it’s fantasy and so technically the Renaissance armour is (almost) as real as the loincloth …
I personally suggested a remedy for the ugliest armor in the game which IMHO would not be difficult for FC to make and not even against the lore of the game , since I deliberately based it on existing stuff.
I’m not sure if we’ll ever see it, I follow the Warhorse boss on FB and am generally understandably interested in the game but there’s been almost no information for years and while it’s certain they’ve been working on a sequel for at least some time it’s hard to tell if they’re working on it further and what stage it’s at.
I’m guessing we’ll see TES VI sooner than KCD 2 (but I’d like to be wrong)
