I would say make it like a chest on wheels, takes enough damage make it crack open with an animation showing the door cracked open a bit and make it lootable to all, too much damage to the cart blows it up and kills everything inside it
Not that I disagree with you, but you said
If something like this cart was added, itād be available in both modes as a matter of consequence. So it needs to have balance aspects related to PvP and PvE.
That makes sense. I thought you meant for it be driveable from the start.
Now, onto the rest of it:
I just meant this as how it could practically work for unloading ācargoā. I cant think of any other way weād get them from cart to wheel for breaking.
PvP players cry about anything, but, I do see a point of imbalance if its instant. What if we add something like a ten second craft time to simulate unloading a thrall. If the horse and cart moves, unloading is cancelled. So a fleeing cart in practice can only be attacked, but a stationary cart can be stolen from if left unguarded.
Adding onto this, its health could be tied directly to its durability like player armour is. So if it is attacked, weād have to take it off and repair it at a saddlers bench or something.
Thatās only if it were a saddle or something.
I meant it literally as itās own thing, wholly unrelated to mounts in any way. It would be a follower as much as a thrall, mount, or pet.
Like how combat thralls canāt be picked back up to your inventory after you place them, you shouldnāt be able to pick this cart back up at all. Once itās in the game world, thatās where it is. No going back to benches.
