Suggestion: Worker Thalls - Why not both?

Interesting patch. I must admit, I haven’t played around with it much. But I have been skimming these forums…

So, living settlements. Some like it, some don’t.
But instead of doing this full re-work of the crafter thralls…

Why don’t you just put both systems in the game? The ability to:

  • Put a crafter thrall into a workbench
    AND
  • Place a crafter thrall in the world

The old and the new system - together. Players can then decide if they want to use the old or the new method, or both!

This is already available. You can handle it in two ways.

First one is server wide with the server setting. There crafters will stay on the stations they are assigned to. The good thing is they’ll still provide their bonuses to other stations around the base in a range.

Second one is to disable placeables one by one so thralls don’t use them. This one is a little weird since they’ll walk back and forth between stations they can work in. But this can be gotten around by disabling stations that are extra so they don’t have anything to path to.

The idea of thralls being items that can be picked up and moved, is one that is thankfully gone. Eventually I’m certain this will be eliminated entirely in the future. Now we just got to get them to do the same with animals too. Pets in fridges and people in boxes is funny, but its time for the game to be a tad more serious than that.
