Super Mario Bros Double Jump has no place in Conan

When it’s 666 degrees celsius outside, you have no AC, your bedroom is the edge of a house and it faces east and south (from 6 to 19-20 direct sunlight), AND your base is in the savannah, I get pretty envy if I open up my fridge full of animals. And I can’t fit into my fridge!!! :frowning:

Small reminder, it is a game.
If you are a rp player, you must realize the usefulness of the double jump. There are many situations where the player needs it, here are some of them: thief, acrobat, wall passer, monk. Change the animation, why not. But it would mean creating several others to try to cope with the different situation. It would be complicated. Add a high jump, a running front somersault, and a wall jump animation. All of it for Level 5 agility. Why not i don’t think it will break the game. It won’t make us change our builds. A running front somersault would be useless in combat. I think a wall jump should allow to jump 2 vertical walls with the fence. And considering the efficiency of the buildings built in pvp, it would not cause any damage pvp level.

I had a base in the Oasis and I indeed built an outcrop specifically to run and jump into the water. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

(Btw I was thinking about real life me not fitting into my fridge, soo thanks for aporeciating my size!!! :kissing_heart: )

So your answer is to allow supposed normal humans to jump over 3 meters roughly straight up ? Ok, lets say we allow this for a second. Lets not forget the spikes jutting out and in some cases on top of fences . Not only are we allowing jumping that an Olympic jumper can’t even do in controlled conditions now we are going to make them ignore injury while doing it grazing needle sharp spikes from two directions ??

And yes captain condescension this is a game a survival game in which you are supposed to come up with solutions within limitations. There is no magical means that is allowing this jump. It is supposed to be with training that we are able to jump on thin air to achieve lift just so some other solution doesn’t have to employed. I think a more plausible solution could be employed if another solution is needed to get other high walls with spikes all over and on top of them.

How about something that requires more thought than just ignoring defenses because that is definitely fair to the player working within physical limitations to be overcome by something that didn’t follow limitations of the rest of the physical world ? How about a grappling hook that can be cut by the defender if found in time ? How about a magic device that has limited uses that allows a slow float to get that lift ? Come guys lets leave a little survival aspect to this survival game ??

In a game with dragons, sorcery, necromancy, and aliens - appeals for the adherence to realism seem logically inconsistent at best to me.

We can breath underwater for long periods of time, climb 90 degree vertical inclines with ease, leap off cliffs and slide down them with the sheer awesomeness of our finger strength. But double jump? No way man.

Double jump isn’t OP and has a cost to its use, I really don’t see the problem here.

Ok, aside from all the strawmanning in this post there is one thing I will say. I already addressed everything in this post that wasn’t a poor strawmanning attempt. My point of course still stands.

There is a difference between realistic and realism in game mechanics. if realistic, non of this game would exists. As for realism, I think the double jump is okay.

  1. Takes alot if att points to spec it.
  2. The animation, although gamey, serves to make the person time the 2nd part press, as well as enemy can see that they are using the perk and not a hack.
  3. The main issue would be pvpv,pve-c. But if you lock away your mats, build roofing, then ot on serves to help get closer to start bombing pvp or catch you in your unroofed areas.

So it is not something that needs to take dev time away from other aspects.

I was submitting my opinion that this ability is not needed or makes sense giving most of the other abilities of the perks (please read the word MOST). I do agree that the devs time could be used with other aspects of the game, but this of course would be up to the devs to consider not for you or I.

As for the first line it was not necessary in that nothing in my post fell anywhere illogical or unexplained fully. Also realistic and realism in this case would again be opinion so there was no need for an instruction towards a difference. It would have been far simpler to say that you had an differing opinion on what these terms meant in this context and left it at that.

Just not you though, right?

but as a pvp scout, it is needed to take advantage of holes in builds.

Where are the limitations in being able to jump upon thin air again ? Gravity comes to mind as does physics . The attributes in this game represent physical strengths in this game . These strengths come from specializing in a specific physical trait being given more priority in the training make up of the character as they build up strength represented in levels.

All these strengths share one aspect that they are physical as in they are limited by your body. Your body’s mass is affected by gravity and physics . No amount of physical training would allow you to defy physics. This is why they could introduce a magical means of achieving this so as not contradict what could be possible of the source of these abilties.

There were no holes in the builds if you needed this ability to defeat them.

At level 1 with no stat investment I can jump off the highest tower in the game, reach terminal velocity, grab onto said tower, and slide until I come to a gentle stop. Having devs develop needless systems to make the physics in the game reflect reality is unnecessary and frankly unrealistic.

Yet they attempt to and have succeeded to with updates to the game. The improvements to climbing animations come to mind. We don’t know if they working the physics further in the game or not. And needless is an opinion and one that the developers would need to share in order for them not to consider the OP suggestion.

Given that double jump has been a thing forever now, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that it’s intended despite its lack of realism. I’m also going to assume the myriad of other examples of unrealistic things aren’t a result of the dev teams inability to code realistic physics, but rather an adherence to the “rule of cool”. Maybe I’m just optimistically bold.

If you are saying double jump needs a reanimation because it looks dumb, sure I can get on board with that I guess - But not because double jumping in this game is unrealistic.

The limitations are the fact this is a part of the game and you have to build with it in mind.

And physics come to mind do they? As mentioned, there is nothing based in physics or biology that would allow you to dig your fingers into a rock face while falling at terminal velocity and catch yourself either. There is nothing physics based about swimming across a channel with two baby elephants in pockets you don’t have.

Now let’s talk about attributes. They are not physical strengths across the board. For one they’re allocated by magical attribute points. Beyond that, what physical attribute would cause you to do more damage to an NPC with a status effect? How agile do you have to be for your armor class to magically double when dodging? How healthy do you have to be to suddenly start regenerating? And how much do you have to be able to carry before suddenly you occasionally are able to keep your armor from being damaged in combat? Oh, and why are they affected by equipment, potions, and war paints if there isn’t some inherent magical component to them in the first place?

This is a video game based in a low fantasy universe, one of those is enough to not be bound by worldly physics.

The best thief on 2 of the server’s I play on is a Expert double jumper people thought he was using exploits then he showed off his talents and offered to point out entry points. A couple tips large dragon heads on the outside are a great place to wait and hide till you open your door and let him in. Two sets of doors close one look around then open second keeps the greasy little thief out. Thier are times on Ps4 that fences don’t do damage don’t know why T1 thru 3.
