Tamed Combat Followers Come off the Wheel of Pain differently

When taming is finished, a combat thrall can be in three states:

  1. In the inventory of the WoP like in previous releases
  2. Standing next to the WoP and can be interacted (follow, guard, etc.)
  3. No where to be seen.

In the third case, the thrall initially shows up on the followers tab, but cannot be marked on the map. You can see the stats on the followers tab, but cannot perform a rescue (been in combat or can’t locate). Eventually the thrall disappears from the followers tab with no associated entry in the event log.

This is on official beta test server. So far only tested with lesser WoP. Going to try with multiple thralls on the 4 slot WoP. Crafters all show up in the inventory as in previous releases.

Tried with 4 T1 and T2 relic hunters. All spawned in next to the wheel and could be interacted with (#2 from above).

Same issue, but they also disappear in a similar manner at random. Lost combat thralls, crafters and now a horse. All were in my base, behind closed doors, and poofed. Happens both while I was out exploring and offline and logging back in to several missing. Rescue says they are in combat, but then after a day it will say they cannot be found and delete them without any warning.

This is on Official server, no mods, and the latest client at this time.

LOL…

question does this happen on the same wheel? or is is different one?

Same wheel. 4 slot wheel on a different server isn’t having a problem.

I tested a total of 20ish thralls of different tiers and professions on the wheel earlier today, they were all fine for me in single-player, though I tested them on the 4-slot WoP. I’ll try to run some more tomorrow through the lesser to see if I get the same result

More testing. 4 slot wheel is not having problems, but sometimes combat thralls spawn next to the wheel and sometimes in wheel inventory. Players on server reporting problems we all using the basic 1 slot wheel.

The same thing happened to me, all the slaves came out of the wheel…with the wheel on the ground, no walls around, no taskmaster, then I created a 3x3 square with taskmaster for the small wheel of pain, taskmaster was standing there but not exactly in taskmaster position, the wheel has a taskmaster shown…same, all outside…then I added more base…first, one more line…4x4,wheel at the same exact center…and the taskmaster in his exact position, where the green light define as taskmaster positions…finally I found the slaves inside the wheel…then I added more base and put other things inside the same construction, thralls were inside…with space between the wheel and the walls and the crafting tables, then I added some more crafting tables…there was space around the wheel but not too much, some come out inside and others outside.
Conclusion:
You need a 4x4 or 5x5 base, with the small wheel right in the center, the taskmaster has to be standing next to the wheel, not a few meters away, even if in the wheel appears he and his attributes…workers and warriors appear inside the wheel…I don’t know if with bigger wheels you’ll need a bigger base.
The wheel must have space around it, quite a bit…it must be a mistake with the workers at the workstations…you could walk through them before, now you can’t…and on top of the wooden circle of the wheel you can put work tables…
My bet…is the worker and his physical ragdoll!!!

For me it is if I use a wheel at a secondary base near spawns. The thrall actually does show up on the map, just not in the base the wheel they were in is, they show as at the base my bed is at. They are never actually there though. I got 1 of 6 berserker’s to actually be in the wheel when doing it this way. the second one, the other 5 went POOF! On official server. (As you don’t have numbers on the beta servers I cant tell you which one…)

I believe this can cause issues in conjunction with other bugs, such as the “drop below the mesh when loading the area”-bug.

This might be the cause of thralls vanishing completely, if a thrall spawns on the ground “pre-placed” even though they shouldn’t, and then drop undermesh because of the other bug.

Note that even placed thralls are vanishing as mentioned in the other thread. These are huge issues and must be resolved before the update goes live.

ps. I was told its the smallest wheel that most often has issues

I think the intent was to have combat thralls spawn in the world. Pre-placed thralls can’t be stashed away in a base. That “feature” is only half done since they often spawn in the wheel inventory. The issue with the lesser WoP is that the height of where the thrall spawns is off, similar to the notorious Nemedian foundation bug.

This seems like a mistake, since it invites bugs and is a wholly unnecessary feature.
