I gotta give them credit where it is due. The tavern system (while more of an age of civilization item then a age of war item) looks like it has serious promise to it. If they add the ability to get worker thralls as well as combat thralls, it would give the players who don’t like the idea of “Forced Interns” a way to get what they need. As well as the possibility of quest.
My biggest concern with this direction is how they intend to make crafters also “part of the world” like the bartender. I’m hoping these don’t count towards our follower count. Also, putting away crafters while not in use helps console players cut down on lag. Knowing that we will no longer be able to do this puts more strain on the game when it’s already fragile as it is. An increase in thralls, animations, etc. may sound cool on a good PC, but without proper optimization, it’s just gonna cause more problems.
It’s their intention, they are working on it. It’s not something we will see in the near future but it’s lovely.
All the wishes of dressing different our crafters, or have them “sexy” on benches, or retrieve them from purge cages… Are about to happen .
So it’s good, really good.
Maybe… but my concerns are a bit validated. They need to improve optimization soon or we’ll be paying a steep price for their ambitious plans… which is often the case.
Exactly. I know people who do not play this game because they do not want to enslave others, even in games, but are willing to play it if they are given alternatives to getting thralls. The tavern system is such a positive add-on to the game!
I really like the tavern system as well. (as well as the potential new mechanics this feature/framework could now open)
It would be nice if we could stock the bar with different drinks as well to influence the demographic of patrons. Maybe certain rare thralls could require a favorite drink to be stocked in order to show up as well.
That’s a great idea! In this way, pointless alcohol would be given an important role in the game! Different drinks have different % to attract a rare Thrall. Similar to the % when raising animals.
Funcom gave up on “War” before the Age of War even ended. Instead of focusing efforts on implementing an incredible system to create a War mechanic in the game (both attack and defense), they just threw a tavern into the mix (which would have great potential to kick off a new era). But the tavern definitely has potential.
Let it be an omen that Funcom has accepted that the barbarism of Conan’s world no longer fits this game. For me, it’s another three months without playing Conan Exiles. But for the first time, I see significant potential for me to come back to the game. The tavern as it will be released is still very raw. But the potential for this village mechanic makes me anticipate the New Age greatly. I’m already looking forward to next year’s announcement (if Conan survives until then).
This one sympathizes with @donbzm.
In that the “war” being offered isn’t a war.
It’s a raid.
The tools being added are nice.
Full stop. This one likes and supports their addition to the game without criticism other than please apply vigorous QA…
Many are features long requested.
Many hint at even more long requested features just past the horizon.
This one tentatively views this update like a plate of fried chicken with a nice honey wheat beer.
Delicious under any circumstances.
Even if it was mislabeled as the whole rotisserie chicken dinner.
It’s not a whole roti.
But it’s still Chicken, still delicious, and has a bonus brew.
It’s a siege. There is more to war then 1000 bodies in an open field trying desperately to not accidently hit an ally. (Happens more then you think). I don’t know what people expected but adding armies and battle formations would be like making an entirely new game.
The items are great. Battering ram is the best ting they have added to date.
This is what i thought about too. Buying all those armor sets for blacksmith/cooking finally makes sense. Finally we’ll be able to give our bases the much needed detail they deserve - actual dressed servants.
The downside might be that our follower limit will take a serious hit, which i’m fine with. To this day I only use 20 fighters and 3 horses, so this doesn’t bother me that much.
I agree. Having tavern as a sort of quest-hub is a really cool idea which hopefully brings us lots of interesting stuff in the future.
This was the highlight of the stream for me. The pve raid… well the base looks like a badly built player base so its hard to get excited about it since it uses existing building blocks. Maybe funcom should use some DLC building blocks at least to make it look more interesting?
