My thoughts on Taverns

Hi all,

So for me ‘tavern’ is not really a game changing feature but it’s nice to have as now the tavern in player’s hub fills itself with NPCs without me being forced to decorate it with Pippi Thespians.
There are some bugs here and there like Tavern visitor unable to properly enter door frame and blocking the entrance or visitors floating somewhere over the base.

But what I really want to see changed.

1 - I’d like everyone to be able to use barkeeper. My tavern-section of the base is open all the time for other players to enter and I would like them to be able to get themselves drinks and food.

2 - why are tavern visitors immortal? Sometimes they get stuck and block the entrance, sometimes they are just annoying. And sometimes they are un-hireable.
There should be a possibility of stunning them the traditional way or killing them.
Which brings… brawls! Every fantasy Inn must have regular brawls. It’s a thing defining the genre  So when player attacks one of the patrons they should either attack the player, or start attacking randomly other patrons etc.

But having them immortal and un-stun-able does not feel right in my opinion.

We should definitely be able to kill them and brawls would be a riot. I even think they should happen randomly. 20% chance of things getting hairy per day cycle! Then we would have a reason to have tavern guards.

Patrons have limited AI so they don’t negatively impact server performance.

I will repeat a suggestion I made elsewhere. Make the bar fight an opt in system. You select an option from the bartender " Drinks on the house!" Then people get drunk and belligerent within 1-3 minutes. A bar fight breaks out until everyone is knocked out or dead.

May Set be with you :snake:

The idea of a brawl is an entertaining premise. However, in what one would probably consider a ‘safe’ area of the game…one can imagine idiots who don’t care coming in and starting a fight by hitting thralls and ruining the game for others.
Fun idea, but in reality, it would be more annoying and provides an opportunity for idiots and trolls to ruin a bar.

Liking your idea to allow others to thrall any bar, but again…people come steal the thralls you may want. perhaps a lock on the bar that enables all to thrall. The troll thing would be more available, too, for starting annoying bar fights if anyone can acces besides the owner/clan.

I would like to see the bartenders, or at least lower level bartenders share spawns with cooks in the npc camps. The bartenders were hidden within the new purge features…but that gets old. Would rather be able to also capture them like all other thralls, and have them more accessible outside of purges.

I read somewhere that we need a hight level purge to get a bartender but I spawn level 5 at the moment and there is like 30%-50% chance for a bartender in one of the cages. Or maybe I’m just lucky.

Brawls would be nice, but immortal patrons must go asap, they are just blocking the door etc and it just does not feel right that you slice an NPC with your sword and he’s there being an indestructible object. Make humans human again.

I’d like to see patrons perform a few more emotes. The ones on the bar stools are good, but the ones on any other chair or bench just sit as if they were attending Mass rather than carousing.

They should turn tavern keepers into player vendors.

I personally have great hopes that now since that system is already built we will get player vendors which are going to sell our custom items.

I’m surprised there are no mods that offer that possibility.

Pippi has “thespians” that are basically player vendors.

I got a bartender in my very first purge, it was a level 1

Yes they are, but they use custom Pippi coin system, which is somewhat a pain, I’d like to have vendors that use in game coin.

Especially because we already have coin implemented in the game. Silver, gold and ancient obolus (now obsolete, afaik).

You can get them at level 1 purge. And named followers as well.

Definitely we need a way to move/remove patrons from our tavern.
I can’t even find an empty chair in my own place
They invade every chair around the bar and on the upper floors too. Trespassing! Burglary!

Return the chair to your inventory.
Literally swipe the chair out from under them, and if there is nowhere to sit they eventually wander off.
The ones sitting at the bar itself are safe, unless you pick up the entire bar…
But replacement may be a pain.
