The end of my conan!

So, after a long time, I’m speaking up again, even though FUNCOM couldn’t care less!

You’re releasing an update for PC?! Oh wow, sure, didn’t they already have free mods to make the game somewhat playable? No, the PC version gets an update, and console players are still stuck with the old version at full price.

Seriously, Funcom? How long have we been begging for a next-gen version, and then you release this “thing”!

I’m beyond disappointed in you, and let me tell you, your DUNE thing on the PS Store is going straight on my block-list. I’m supposed to support a company that invests in PC optimization, and we console players have to pay for buggy games.

With this, I say goodbye to the FUNCOM world, and what I find sad is that I’ve been there from the beginning, and I liked Conan, but like everything in life, it has to end!

PS6 and Project Helix (the next Xbox) are rumored for 2027. Project Helix even allows you to play Steam games.

I gotta agree with this. I mean come on ps5 is next gen consel here. Now theres a new 4 part story arch Legacy of the Giant-Kings and we cant get into it? What the heck funcom it feels like were being screwd over here

developing for console is a slow and arduous process. developing for pc and release on steam is easy. we are seeing bugfix patches on a biweekly basis right now on steam. it takes longer than that to get an update approved for release on consoles. if they had rolled the Enhanced edition out to PC and console at the same time, we would all still be waiting on the first bug fix patch. console support held the development of this game behind FOR YEARS. as a PC player, i’m glad we are no longer being held back by the dev team needing a 6 weeks lead-in time before patch deployment.

end of the day it’s not about making console players surffer, punishing them for their use of inferior hardware, or any malice or disrespect. it’s a simple case of the development team wanting to actually do the work, push the patches, and make the game better. they can’t do that at the pace they are doing it on console, or on microsoft store, or epic store. only on PC and steam store can they maintain the development cycle they are on right now. it will result in a better product, and once it is stable porting that stable version to other platforms and releasing on other pc storefronts will make sense.

If the problem were the consoles themselves, Funcom would have already released Enhanced on the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store. So I don’t think the delay is really about the platform.

The reality is that timing matters.

When Enhanced finally launches on consoles, a lot of players will come back. We’ve seen this happen before. Just as many players overlook the Bazaar’s pricing because they enjoy the game, many will also move past this period without updates once there’s something exciting to play.

Whether we like it or not, the gaming industry has shown that players are often surprisingly forgiving when a major update or expansion arrives. Developers know this, and it’s likely part of their strategy.

That’s also why I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the people saying, “That’s it, I’m done,” today end up downloading Enhanced on day one. From Funcom’s perspective, that’s probably a safe bet. After all, if someone had truly moved on, they likely wouldn’t still be here discussing the game on the forums.

My advice is simply to be patient. When Enhanced finally reaches consoles, I think you’ll have a genuinely great experience. From what we’ve seen so far, the team has done a solid job with the upgrade.

In the meantime, play something else, take a break if you need to, and come back when Enhanced arrives. Conan will still be here, and hopefully it’ll be in its best shape yet.

Inferior hardware

From 70 to 80% of PCs people actually own have inferior specs for gaming than a base PS5.

The truth of the matter is that the “master race” are about 20% of PC players who actually have high end machines. Even the coming steam box is inferior to a PS5.

Now, I’m not a tech savy guy by a long shot, but if we’re talking about a PC with with i7 core or a i9 with a Nvidia 5070ti or a 5090 gpu, even a Radeon RX 9070 XT, massive cooling systems, 16 or 32 GB of DDR4 ou DDR5 RAM, Gen5 SSD, etc., of course you can’t even compare performances. Any console will be left in the dust, but you’ll pay 10x more for your machine.

I recently bought a high end rig and ended up gifting it to my son.It was originally for me, but he was all over it since I set it up. If you are a father you know how these things go. It costed me a little over 5k euros. I had the opportunity to give it a good test run and it does deliver a fantastic gaming experience. But do you know what I can also tell you? The PS5 is a hell of a machine for its cost. It’s impressive what a cheap machine in comparison can do. True, it’s not that easy to port for the PS5, but the reason we don’t have the enhanced version game on consoles has NOTHING to do with hardware capabilities. If that was the case, the hordes of pc gamers who play on tuna cans couldn’t run it.

Btw, great to “see you”. :sign_of_the_horns:

Honestly, I don’t even care about the enhanced version. If we had a smooth runing version for the PS5, that would be enough. Instead, we have a piss poor version very poorly optimized.

I dread to think what would happen in a UE5 version where optimization is absolutely crucial for a good PS5 performance. Judging by the version that we have, we would end up with a disaster.

Hell still waiting for server transfers and events to show back up. I’ve just given up on living settlements.

Everyone knows that consoles are much more powerful than any PC. I don’t understand why Funcom released this major update on PC!

LOL

per dollar I would agree…however I think with component scarcity, I don’t think this will be the new reality in the future.

not gonna argue with you, if you think your off-the-shelf close-architecture non-upgradeable hardware is the best, you are entitled to your opinion.

my main thesis wasn’t about hardware. obviously, current gen consoles COULD run CE Enhanced. noone with gamedev knowledge would argue against that, plenty of games using the same technology have been successfully ported to kiddie box 5 x series 9000 tendo cubes.

my main point is about the development cycle and pushing updates to the game. if you think that they can maintain the patch frequency on console, where there is a 3 - 6 week lead in time minimum to get a patch approved by the corporate overloards who control your hardware, you are just wrong. it is the same with MS store and Epic store on PC, patch updates require lead in time to get approved. On steam, the only thing Funcom / Inflexion has to do is pass a virus scan to push a patch. That sort of rapid-fire, weekly & bi-weekly update schedule isn’t possible on your platform. That was my point. I have full faith that once Enhanced more stable, they will port it to console, it just makes financial sense to do so. It does not make development sense to do it yet.

I don’t think. This is what the numbers say. Of course a medium-high/ high end gaming PC is much better. But buck for buck, the PS5 is a better choice for gaming hands down. An equivalent PC costs 3x more to do about the same. The biggest advantage are mods that very few games on consoles have.

My only point of dispute was hardware capabilities. Period. You’re right on everything else.

Every time someone thinks they are getting more, for less money… they are wrong, and don’t understand how the economy actually works. Every time.

What the kiddie cube folks don’t understand is, the performance they see which makes them THINK they are getting more performance than a PC of the same price… is software tricks. It always looks worse on console. Always.

Yet bravo to them, because they’ve clearly convinced console owners that the cheapest of the cheap computer inside their little magic box, is better than actual desktop hardware of equal price.

These are the same types of people that will say a laptop 5080 is just as good as a full scale desktop 5080. Because somehow in their world, you can have less power draw, smaller form, worse heat management, and cost less… but somehow none of that is a factor. You know, the same people that think “free” things don’t cost anything and the people that companies spend tens of millions on marketing campaigns for. They don’t operate on facts. They operate on feelings.

Whatever justifies your 2K+ “investment”

Conan Exiles. A beautiful game that doesn’t work on Playstation and they are raking in millions on a broken game. I’m making a suggestion that all people who purchased it and the DLC report Playstation and Funcom to the FTC for fraudulent purposes. Maybe a lawsuit could get started for reimbursment of all the moneys spent on that Playstation failure. I am totally pissed about all the money I invested for a game that doesn’t work, constantly crashes, and eventually freezes you out. This is the biggest and worst failure I have seen to date on PS network and Playstation refuses to acknowledge the failure and reimburse people for that failure.

Dude, you don’t have a clue on what you are talking about. Go vent your frustrations elsewhere.

Dude… if only saying something, made it true, dude. You go vent elsewhere.

The reason that Sony is able to deliver a machine such as the PS5 is volume and consistency of component orders. That’s why if you try to build a PC with similar specs for gaming you’ll end up spending almost 3x what a PS5 costs. The PC is not a machine just made to play games. That will also add to the price. Even Steam will deliver a machine inferior to a PS5 because they can’t get it out by a price that low.

Stop being a ■■■■■■■■ and read what people actually write. There’s something wrong with you, honestly.

I own a high end gaming PC. I know what it can do. And I tell you that it’s still impressive what a machine that costed almos 10x less is able to deliver. Is that hard to understand, you knuckle head?
