Donner party of 5?
But there are only 4 chairs.
We know.
When famine struck in the distant past, you can bet infanticide and canibalism were more common everywhere than most people want to admit. It was a matter of survival, not culture.
Cultural cannibalism is another thing. It aims to instill dreadful fear in your enemies and/or is guided by the belief you will gain your enemy’s strenght/power by ingesting his body.
It isn’t specific to any part of the world that I am aware. In the past, it probably was widespread. However, it survived as a form of culture in isolated tribes until fairly recently and it happens still to this day with extreme groups of very disturbed individuals.
It’s even more serious and horrible than that. There is a black market for human meat in modern societies for ultra rich (and insane) people.
Cannibalism has many variations that range from archaic ritual practices to extreme depravity and lack of human decency.
At least the Darfari have a single outfit.
Meanwhile the Kushites, of whom there are many across the numerous factions of the Exiled Lands have a big fat 0.
This one does agree that we need more outfits and placeables for the Kingdoms south of Stygia. Hyrkanians as well. Especially compared to what we already have in abundance.
Aquilonians, who barely show up at all, have a base game set, full DLC and numerous Bazaar items.
Yamatai, of whom there are, to this one’s knowledge, exactly 0 NPCs in the Exiled Lands are also very well supported. Far better supported than Cimmerians for certain.
At least we finally have Khitan NPCs…
Perhaps one day there will be Picts.
If the purge is ever not Stygian, Picts are an excellent group to be purging. Especially farther north.
That many cultures are lumped into Hyborian is fine and dandy. Nemedians are obviously not culturally or ethnically distinct from Brythunians and the people of Ophir, Koth, and Corinthia. Of course, if we look at “Hyborian” in game. it obviously refers to Northish Westernish Hyborians, rather than all Hyborian Age peoples.
Now you do understand why i love you so much.
It’s necessary to learn the history written on books, because if we don’t then we don’t know what and where we must search for the truth behind these books.
But one thing i know really well is that human kind will do literally everything for money and redemption of crimes.
I believe @LostBrythunian by profession can speak better than me in these parts. Especially historical facts that’s presented differently in different countries. Making history “religion” is one of the most powerful weapon governments have.
But i will stop here. I wish not to derail further this conversation.
So, not all people from Africa are represented as Darfari cannibals. In all other factions, except the Nordheimers, we find Darfari warriors and artisans, and they do not engage in cannibalism there. The same goes for the Darfari’s neighbors, the Cushites. Darfari cannibals are those who adhere to the cult of Yog. This cult prescribes cannibalism. But it is not at all necessary to choose a character of the Darfari race and at the same time be an adherent of the Yog cult.
I must admit, I don’t know much about the lore…or the races within the world. It’s definitely something I plan on catching up on.
You may think that the inhabitants of the Darfari camps are aggressive towards you only because you eat differently. This is not true, NPCs in this game are aggressive towards everyone, regardless of the character’s race, diet, or religion.
The exceptions are most of the NPCs in the city of Sepermeru, as well as some NPCs on the volcano.
If ii is something that you are interested in, I can recommend this essay (written by R E Howard) covering the entire history of his Hyborian Age up to the beginning of our own history.

Obviously, it’s worth bearing in mind that he was writing early in the 20th century, so there are several ideas in there that would later be discredited (or used for darker purposes), but were quite reasonable understandings of human evolution at the time.
