If you can play, after my 2 days of download, I can’t even connect anywhere, not even my G-portal server so
Is that how you approach every new game? Just turn on God mode, cheat mode, and ghost mode and not actually play the game? Just fly through every dungeon without actually doing anything? Why even play video games? I’m sorry, this just isn’t good advice at all.
Thank you for saying that.
The new map is clearly design to offer a playstyle different from the base game, not only new skins. Yes maybe one will end up preferring the base map playstyle but eh, that’s life, and even when playing on the base game with the expac purchased you can still use the new armors, building parts etc. so you don’t lose much.
What I begin to see after 2 days is that maybe I won’t play as much in this Isle as I’ve played on the base map. But that’s a very personal feeling and it does’nt keep me from appreciating Siptah’s experience right now at my pace, with no god mode and only aloe to save my skin xD
Hence why this is a new game, not a conan exiles expansion.
Tell me exactly, whats the problem with scouting a map on singleplayer mode to, for example, look for good base spots? Who said he plays the game that way? This is night and day mentality here…
I spent 4-5 hours on singleplayer yesterday and I completely agree with the OP, as well as another 8 on official. I really like the new ideas of the map, but they are missing more npcs and CAVES. There’s nothing interesting to explore on this map except for the elder dungeons.
Flying over the map to scout for good base spots is not the same as exploring “90% of the map”:
So that means that Kyra either:
- took a cursory look at the map by flying over 90% of its surface area
- took the time to engage in detailed exploration of 90% of the map
If it was just a cursory look, then what Multigun said does not apply, but then we come back to the original argument that people shouldn’t claim it’s all the same and boring without actually taking the time to explore and interact and engage. It’s basically judging the book by its cover, and then telling the author it sucked.
On the other hand, if it was in-depth exploration, then I agree with Multigun: where the hell is the fun in that? To me, that’s just a sad way to treat any creative work…
I’m really a big fan of the new map. The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant. Sometimes it feels a bit empty compared to the Exiled Lands, but I’m already getting used to it. It has a charme of its own.
The mechanic changes with food <> bandages is really great and the small changes to crafting are good.
I still have a ton to explore when I can finally play with my clan on the weekend.
I’m sold for this DLC.
I found caves. I found tunnels, too. Yeah, the island could probably use a few more caves.
But I have to agree that the island, as beautiful as it is, seems to be missing something. It feels a bit empty. Maybe wild surge NPCs that are not “claimed” could roam around the island looking for prey (like a random encounter) instead of just dying?
Siptah could use more random encounters (not static, stationary creatures that only get aggressive at things in their immediate proximity). Patrol pathing and longer ‘wandering’ routes.
I do miss the Purge. Playing “Tower Defense” games let me test the strength of my base in PvE settings. I enjoyed a good ‘base attack’ (just not random NPCs spawning inside my base). So please bring back the Purge, but fixed. Purge 2.0 for Siptah.
So that’s my feedback so far. Looking forward to seeing improvements during this early access time. I’m enjoying the island, but wish it had a little more to it.
@bodin I like your idea of allowing the surge thralls to travel. They could use them as the new “purge” the group travels a certain path and if it comes into a location with a base they home in on it. If they follow a set path they could have the surge npc’s slowly merge into an even larger group as more surges are missed so the longer they go without being noticed the harder the wave of thralls gets
Cull the “herd” before they get to be too big and deadly. Yeah, the new Purge for Siptah could have serious issues for people living in the interior of the island (and still keep the beaches safe for new players).
I think that the lack of human NPCs on the map was intentional. My guess is that Funcom wants to give PVP and PVE-C players an in-game motivation for conflict, other than “we can, therefore we should”.
On the one hand, I love the idea. On the other hand, it does make things awkward for PVE players.
Maybe each Surge could have at least one “captain” NPC that can’t be knocked out and is left to wander around?
That would also be a great way for the map to feel more organic. And that’s one of the popular feature requests for Exile Lands, too. I’m not sure how complicated that would be to implement, though. I have a feeling it might be costlier than Funcom likes, but that’s just my hunch.
hey that’s not nice, what did Riddle of Steel ever do to deserve this hate?
I mean the army of murdercats covering every square inch of the map seem pretty lively. Likewise the big magic stuff around the map is pretty interactive.
Just because you didn’t find any yet doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Keep looking
Ah yes, the well known Buffalo. And who could forget the giant redwoods of the west and lush green valley of the east? These are definitely identical.
Ever heard the expression “make your own fun”? Sandboxes are for you to do that. Actually go out and explore. Reading this post has made it entirely apparently you haven’t done any of that.
Xanarus finds your lack of truth disappointing.
Nothing, I just actually played the expansion and enjoyed myself because I believe in having fun in games, not being a hateful and overcritical gremlin
If the purges is what you miss, maybe you could try building in the Maelstrom area?
I was studying the server settings pertaining to it, and there were some REALLY interesting PVE settings in there. Including the mention of Siege Beasts seemingly specializing in taking down bases, or even a setting to determing the “minimum” size for a siege beast to even consider targeting a building.
And that’s just a bit of the settings involved. Like, it sounds like it could offer a sort of endgame PVE defense experience not found even in the Exiles Lands.
Dubs I absolutely agree this new direction gives me hope that my go to game will remain alive
I agree, there are game mechanics that didn’t need to be messed with, and the availability of NPC camps for thralls is one of them. Playing single player, it does make things feel dead. I’m probably going to just go back to the regular island. This is just kind of boring. Actually I’ll probably just play other games instead.
The new building pieces look good, but it’s not enough to keep me around. I hope Funcom takes this to heart and actually puts in some NPC camps for thralls.
What everyone is forgetting is it’s EA.
Adding weather seasons would be cool, having snow lay, heavy rain (possible floods? landslides? Tsunami?). Scorching hot summers and cold winters etc would make you have to wear diff armors at certain times of the season.
Surges are good, but maybe add a chance of t4 higher and possible t4 spawns in wild surges.
More npcs around the place to kill.
Maybe should have had east side one temperature, the west another and slightly different landscape/biome. But overall its a good map.
People don’t like change, so if that’s the case go back to Hyboria.
Tbh it has loads of dungeons.
For EA i actually can’t believe it runs ok, well done Funcom!
7/10 for me as its EA. The added stuff to come will make this map awesome.
If by dungeons you mean the Sigil dungeons, sure. But after one run through, they aren’t interesting enough nor do they require you to go back through them and harvest more ingredients etc… I think what we are all saying is, and I agree with you that this is EA, that we are hoping they add more to the island than what is already there. More dungeons, more caves, more npc camps… some of the fun with the original conan was PvE (fighting other npc human characters). Going to a surge and watching them fall through the sky and then watch them just stand there doing nothing until you agro them is cartoony at best. But back to the more… more varied animals… there is a lot of re-skinning of animals and they buffed up the cats and dogs to make combat seem more of a challenge without actually using more assets. More rare and hard to find creatures, rare loot… once you’ve opened a loot box, you’ve really seen all you can see there. This dlc to the Conan Exiles game is a good start and yep, EA… we are just hoping what we see isn’t it.
@morgawyr Have you tried the storm? Have you tried the summoned surges? Have you figured out why grinding the vaults is important? Reading your comments, it sounds to me that you have only discovered half of the content the map has to offer.
Edit: Flagged as spam, really? Really? If you’re gonna abuse the flag system at least try to use a proper flag
Why would they tell a lie like that?
I play pve. I like the new pve content.
Good for you, that doesn’t mean anything really. I also really, really doubt that if you’re this oblivious to how the game works.
