Thrall disappeared after game crash... wtf?

So I had a thrall followed me all the way north near the trapper’s cabin but I noticed the cabin was gone and when I got closer my game crashed. After logging back in to my Single player game I was placed in a different spot near the trappers cabin but my thrall was gone. I went back to my camp and he was not there. I don’t know where he is… its kinda annoying because it took a while to break him but now he is gone…???

Has anyone else had this issue?

This game has a tonnnn of bugs that is making it unplayable. I posted more issues in other threads but I havent heard back from any admin.

When you close your SP (or get a game crash) your Pets and Thralls consider this as a “Guard” command. Try to go to the same place where your game crushed - sure you’ll find your Thrall there on guard.

Nop thrall is gone forever

If you play on PC you can restore your previous game before the crash. I don’t know if it’s possible for consoles.

Hey there,

Thralls will remain in “Scouting” mode when the owner is killed or disappears. After a while, they will return to their last set guarding spot. Depending on where you set that thrall’s sport for the last time is where it will reappear given a certain time (15 minutes by default, if I recall correctly).

It can take longer then 15 minutes if online. In my experience sometimes the you have to visit the area where you told them to stop following in order to get them to appear where you placed them. It’s also sometimes just good to wait for a server restart before considering them gone for good. In your case with the crash I would check both where you placed him last and the area where you crashed. When I say area it can be quite far from where the crash actually occured, depending on the speed you were traveling, running or walking the thrall may have been teleporting. Best to retrace your route.

Hi There,
I am a (relatively) new player who downloaded the PS4 version (for free) and then subsequently purchased the 1st DLC, as I liked the game so much.

*Note: I did not buy the 2nd DLC yet because the PS4 crashes far too often, and I find that incredibly frustrating. None the less, I thought the game was good enough that I was willing to invest both my time and effort, thinking that the stability issue would be fixed quickly, and I started putting my main follow thrall on guard in specific locations that I could easily return to.
Sadly something went wrong.

I play single player ( I do not like PVP), and I really enjoy the base bulding and outfitting of the bases.
I currently have 3 bases and am at level 60 working my way to thru the volcano.
As I am currently collecting demon blood for a 2nd map room, I have to run from my remote northern base to my main base where I have the high level thrall craftsmen.
Earlier today the game crashed on such a journey causing me to lose my heavily laden thrall.
Now I did run back to both the last area I lost the thrall and the last known “guard” spot, however since I was running half way across the map, I either missed her due to time or forgot a spot where I set her (Eina the light) to guard.
I must say I very much like the game, but have to admit that I am incredibly frustrated by this mechanic. It seems to me the game would be much better served if players had the option of setting a “home” spot for thralls that they return to. Or at least have them return to the nearest bed/bedroll location.
In this case I do not mind the loss of a thrall (I have a duplicate), but rather the enormous amount of farmed materials she was transporting (players have weight limits, thralls do not, so she was carrying multiple pets, tier 3 thralls and star metal and black ice).
I have always felt that a game needed 2 things to succeed. Firstly it needs to be fun and have content (CE does this), secondly it needs to respect the players and the time they invest in the game.
I do not feel this mechanic lives up to the 2nd requirement.
I have 2 questions :

  1. is there anything that can be done to recover my lost thrall and all of the materials she was transporting?
  2. Any chance the dev team can either change the mechanic OR fix the PS4 game stability so that this does not happen again?
I do not mind losing thralls and equipment when I die fairly in game, but to lose dozens of hours of time collecting materials due to a stability issue and an unfriendly game mechanic is the sort of thing that will make me lose interest in the game.
Please let me know your suggestions/thoughts.
    Thank you!

Welcome to the community. I know there are some issues with the solo side of things currently. I’d invite you to join an online PVE server. It’s worth it for the comradely alone but it would also solve the server crash lost thrall issue. I’ve never lost anything to an official server crash.

Additionally I would add that your thrall only has 5 total inventory slots so it’s not likely you lost much that can’t be recovered quickly. Everything is replaceable. Believe it or not the harsh conditions of the game are what attracts me to continue playing it. Sometimes you lose stuff and time spent but that’s part of the fun for me. I’m on official 3890 if you want to check it out I’ll give you a tour. The other nice thing about playing on an official server is that there is usually maps all over for people to use making getting certain (hard to come by) resources much easier to obtain.

As for the stability issue I’ve found the best thing you could do is install the game in a SSD and play it from there. Makes a huge difference if you have the means to do so.

Hi Wak,
Thanks for reading my post. I must however correct you assertion that the thrall only has 5 slots. Eina the Light is a tier 4 pack bearer, and has 25 slots (at least in single player), so there was a lot lost (several hundred star metal bars, several hundred stacks of Black ice, 3 tamed pets, a tier 3 armorer, and an entertainer, as well as 2 improved Ice boxes I was moving to the main base, in addition to a host of other materials that I could more efficiently process at my main base rather than the remote base. So this combination of game instability and unfriendly mechanic is very problematic for me.
I may join a PVE server if I decide to continue with the game (thank you for the tour offer, I may still take you up on that), but to be honest I game after work to unwind and get away from having to deal with people all day (hence the single player focus). Playing this or any game is an escape for me, much like reading a book.
I would also like to stress that I have no issue losing thralls and items/materials when I die in game, I ONLY object to losing hours of time spent collecting items/materials due to crashes and game freezes that really should be quickly addressed and fixed as they become apparent. The player base should not have to suffer for the dev team not addressing a known TECHNICAL issue with the release.

Basically I like the game, I want to continue to play and invest time and money in it, but I am unwilling to accept losing things due to technical issues that should have been fixed shortly after release on the PS4 platform. No other game that I play has this issue, I know there are many bad games/problematic dev’s out there and I simply refuse to buy/play those games (ie Anthem, Fallout 76, Destiny 2) until I am assured that I am not being sold a lie or am wasting my time. Gaming is an escape for me, I do not want the frustration associated with game crashes and mechanics that disrespect players in my free time. I expect launch issues, but we are well past launch and the game should not be repeatedly crashing, and if it does, players should not be penalized for a technical issue by having their in game items disappear.

My post was a simple attempt to make the game better and find a way to continue to play and buy the next DLC. If I can be assured that someone is listening and the team is actually going to address the PS4 single player stability issue and perhaps address the lost thrall issue, I will be happy and will continue to play, If not, I will probably just move onto another game as there are plenty of good options out there, which respect my time and that do not cause me to lose what I have farmed due to “technical” issues.

FYI : I currently have the game on a 5GB SSD attached to my PS4, money is not a constraint, free time is and that is why I cannot accept the stability issue causing me to lose all of the materials and thrall I worked to attain. If I had died, due to being attacked by a creature or NPC, I would not have posted and shared my frustration.

Yeah, but this game has an offline option, why put it if its going to be unplayable? If the developers wanted gamers to have the full experience then just make it online with less bugs and crashes like you said. There are tons of games that are online multiplayer. Some people prefer playing offline maybe because they might not have a good internet connection or just want a solo adventure but either way the experience of the game should be the same, fun and not frustrating. Also if a game is dependent of extra hardware then the game wasn’t meant to be on consoles. The game should run fine if the people who made this wanted to but in this case they are failing to provide a playable game. There are a lot of threads in this site stating the same issues I had months ago or even last year. So there hasn’t been any fixes at all, and one of them should be playing the game without an SSD.

Thank you for your offer but like I said there are people who like to play solo, like me lol

Nop, after my thrall was gone I played for two hours straight. Went back to the spot where my game crashed and my camp but no thrall. So nop, he just disappeared I was hoping to see his name in the Thrall Pot maybe killing a monster nearby but nop.

I stopped playing this game and went back to Apex lol. :joy: I really did enjoy the base building and crafting aspect of this game but with so many bugs I rather spend my time with a playable game.

My camp is right in the middle where the three rivers meet. Close to the sunken pit whatever the name is. The distance from my base to the Trappers cabin aint that far so theres no way I would have missed my thrall running or going back to his spot.

I dont mind losing my thrall, is just the time I had to wait to break him. It would be nice if this breaking feature could work while the player is not online. Just take both times when you logged out and logged back in and calculate the difference.

That shii is annoying just to have my thrall disappear.

Laufey,
I completely agree with your statements! If a game cannot run properly on console, don’t release it on console or with that mode.

I quit D2 (for all time) after they were caught lying to players about XP.

I have enough money to buy any game I choose, but expect the game to be is a runnable format when they get my money, not 3 months later (I’m talking to you EA and Bethesda).

I used to preorder games but after getting burned on D2, I stopped that, and am waiting for reviews before I buy anything. I downloaded CE and then bought the 1st DLC before I experienced this glitch and am very close to deleting the game from my SSD.

I play games to relax, and I really enjoyed the game until this happened.

I don’r understand why Funcom doesn’t see the damage this sort of thing is doing to their playerbase and future revenue…
